I'm very interested in seeing box sales, subscriptions, or any official sales numbers. I've been keeping an eye out and guess it would be all over this site if it was released like the 5 million registered for beta but not seeing anything yet. It's been over a month since release, what gives? Do you think they will ever release sales figures or did they do so bad that they never will?

Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.
Based on what I am personally seeing and hearing- I imagine they sold a ton of boxes. Perhaps close to recouping most of the dev cost. A very large portion of my friends purchased this game and a very small portion are still subbed at the current moment.
I think you will hear alot more on this (Sales numbers) close to the console release- Its going to be HUGE. It will probably be a staple on nearly everyones Xbawx and PS4. Thats when the bragging will more likely start- To crate more hype . Then (if not shortly before) I would reckon it goes F2P. Then you will get more numbers.
10 Billion served?
Sales numbers are never put out early unless it's part of the marketing hype; that is, something they can clearly brag about as encouragement to others to buy the game and subscribe.
Stockholders' quarterly sales reports and similar formal documentation required by law are the best indications of sales, and even those are usually full of double-talk.
The only place I've ever been able to find accurate reports has been through investor channels; those aren't available to the general public.
RIFT was also hazy on their success until months later
RIFT launched march 2011 - gave some indication 3 months later June 2011

You have obviously made up your mind as to the answer, what's the point of even asking the question?
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
He ssentially right though- Since nothing requires them to actually divulge this information to the public its usually used as a hype meter for many industries including (especially) mmorpgs and video games. Thats why you often never hear that 20K people attended a Nascar Race but you WILL here when 150K attended. Same basic principal.
I, however think they had HUGE box sales . The reason not to hype the box sales at this time (IMHO) is because the retention rate is very sub par and with one giant mega server- This will be easily evident if they announce a huge box sales number but the server does not reflect this.
Its my opinion (of course- Like almost all my posts -)that if the sub retention had been good- They would be flaunting some pretty impressive numbers right now. Instead they will do the flaunting around console release and quickly go F2P after cashing in on that crowd where the MMO market is not saturated and there is almost no competition..
EDIT- I also antici[pate (let this be my prophetic statement) that ESO will go to Console around the Holidays and the console release will constantly be moved back a few months each time (to get it "perfect") but will inconspiculously be complet and ready to ship in time to be a new game on the consoles around Christmas time and with a huge marketing push.
Oh, crap... has Knotwood returned with a new account name?
;-)
I am slightly amused at the "They only release the sales number for hype" comments.
Amused because there is/was/has been tons of hate that ESO should want to combat.
My personal opinion on the game has nothing to do with official sales numbers.
As far as I know that vgchartz number could be off by more than double. Wouldn't the logical conclusion be that if they are not releasing the numbers they didn't hit something worth bragging about? I'm open to other explanations if you got any. Maybe they are just waiting for the console launch I don't know.
I'm pretty sure since they bragged about beta numbers they would have paraded 5 million if they had sold that much as well.
Excuse me for being interested in how much they sold and asking why we haven't seen official numbers. I would like official numbers way more than speculation.

ENTIRE MARKET OF ESO:
2-3 million MMO playerse looking for a new game.
2.8 million PC ES fans who bought Skyrim.
17.2 million console ES fans who bought Skyrim.
The fact that 4.8 million Oblivion copies sold.
The fact that 4 million Morrowind copies sold.
X million of console MMO players (unknown since no MMORPG has came to them since Xbox and PS2)
X millions migrating to ESO from other gaems.
PLUS:
RETENTION RATE
How well the retention rate you think this company can sustain with its updates and content expansions. Also considering its retention rate with its Single Player base as their first MMO ever. MMO player retention + ES fan player base retention.
PLUS:
ADVERTISMENT
Amount of global advertisement. Will they run an advertisement campaign the size of WoW's with celebs, ect. world wide.
EQUALS:
10 million subs by the end of the year
Do you even Math ?
ROFL @ 10 million subs!!
Multiply that final number by .03% and you will get a more realistic number.
How about 780 out of 800 on my math GRE's years ago... one of multiple degrees I hold.
I've also been at every level of managment in very large companies, so I know "just a bit" about business. Bad products do not end up with a large subscription base.
So, kid aka Knotwood the second, do you do anything other than hype?
Claims of ESO 10mil subs
Claims of Wildstar 10mil subs!
When did 10mil get to be such a popular number
Which one will get closer..... only one way to find out, fight!
Where is Knotwood ?
KNOTWOOOOOOOD YOU HAVE FAILED THIS CITY.........I MEAN FURUMZ !!!!! !!!!
100k subs left by the end of this month and thats being positive...
I don't think you "math".
2-3 million MMO playerse looking for a new game.
Really? not 1.3 or 4 million or 800k? Where are you getting these numbers?
2.8 million PC ES fans who bought Skyrim.
Doesn't mean they are interested in an Elder Scrolls MMO
17.2 million console ES fans who bought Skyrim.
Doesn't mean they are interested in an Elder Scrolls MMO
The fact that 4.8 million Oblivion copies sold.
Not only does it not mean they want an elder scrolls mmo, how many of those players are the "Elder Scrolls" customers who purchased skyrim?
The fact that 4 million Morrowind copies sold.
same as the Oblivion statement
X million of console MMO players (unknown since no MMORPG has came to them since Xbox and PS2)
The only other console mmo's I know are the final fantasy games and planetside 2. Very different from ESO. The may or may not be interested
X millions migrating to ESO from other gaems.
and X millions migrating away from ESO to other games. keep in mind I sub to ESO. But there is no evidence that they are going to be able to retain everyone who purchased.
Everything you have is conjecture except maybe the numbers of purchased single player Elder Scrolls Products.

It does indeed seem strange that they were happy to point out all the beta registrations, but nothing said about how many of those registers actually purchased.
And given the mountains of negativity the game has relieved, one would expect that they would announce every positive they could.
Bethesda wouldn't hesitate to announce if the game sold over a million copies by release, let alone by the first month. Bethesda loves doing that.
Im pretty sure the game didn't sell a "ton" of copies. I'm sure they would have announced a million sales had they actually had that many.
"If I offended you, you needed it" -Corey Taylor
Other than WoW, what company releases subscriber numbers? The last I know of is either SWtOR, or EVE. The former got bit in the ass after advertising 2 million subs only to have 1.5 of them drop after a few months. The later stopped giving numbers out entirely a while back ago (probably because they were in decline).
So what exactly is the problem with ESO not advertising numbers?
You make me like charity
No need to get defensive. The point is that since so many here have a bias about the game, there is little point to any "official" numbers as people will spin/distort the numbers given to support their opinion of the game.
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
I don't know how many they sold, we can guess about 500k max.
However they obviously have no intention of going f2p anytime soon, they delayed the console version for 6 months so they won't go f2p for at least a year. That alone shows they are decently happy with the game so far and money isn't an issue.

pfft, its at least 20 mill closing to 30!
You heard it here first.
I even did the math!
