I like stylized and cartoony to a point, but this is just straight ACME

Hearing it compared to Looney Tunes actually has perked my interest again.

I had chalked it up to another FetchQuest poop storm.

Realistic MMOs end up looking dated 2 weeks after launch. Taking time to craft good animation and design aspects (like color and texture) means more to me than how gray or brown they can make it.

That veg quest was in the intro... Later on you go play with pink bunnies... Yea, about lost it at that point and decided to give the dominion side a try. Totally different experience for me, got reasonably hooked and wondering how it would play out. So, yea, faction change, changed my outlook.

It makes me think pinball machine.   Flashing lights, loud noises, sounds telling me I got an extra ball.

This will be a happy stay for me till EQN comes out. If EQN is a flop I will be back to Wildstar. I have always liked campy and I rather something make fun of it self over to serious.

I actually don't mind the graphics all that much, but the combat is just straightup not fun to me in a pve enviroment, which is the only thing i go to themepark games for.

Anyone at GameStop will tell you Skylanders is insanely popular amongst all ages. In fact most would tell you adults like it more.

Kids tend to reach an age where they think "cartoony" things are lame. I know I did probably around thirteen or so when you are desperately trying to be older and it's all about blood and adult situations.

Then something happens when you reach oh 23 or so where you start to realize that those "cartoony" things never stopped being friggen awesome. And you're old enough and secure enough that you don't give a shit what people think about you. So you are more than happy to play something like Wildstar and love it.

Carbine knows what they are doing with their style. I'm certainly not against realistic graphics as I said earlier I will happily continue playing ESO as well as they are both fantastic games.

Art style, talking veggies, constant "MULTIKILL!" etc. I liked the combat for first few hours, then it turned boring too.

Clearly not a game for me.

The devs did an incredible job with their game systems. Huge props to an mmo launching with housing and a decent crafting system.

Its a shame I can't get past the style though.

I agree with you about the art style, don't get me wrong, I love the designs but the cartoon side of things really put me off. However, I do enjoy the mechanics and considering many games I liked the look off but hated the mechanics I stuck with it and now the graphics have kinda grown on me. Of course, I am a patient person but a lot of people will just simply give the game a wide birth and I can understand as to why.

For me it's pretty much the opposite: I like the style, but I hate the game. 99.99% of the Quests (up to level 25 at least) are just the same fetch this, kill 500 of those and go to ****CHALLENGE ACCEPTED: KILL 500 MORE OF THOSE IN A CERTAIN TIME WINDOW**** some NPC over there.

Heh.  I like the style, now that they seem to have toned down the motion-sickness inducing green slime.

But I'm old.  Hell, I grew up with Pacman and Space Invaders.  Much as I do enjoy graphical eye candy, I'm far from wedded to it.

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

I am still on the fence with this game. Sometimes I freaking love the Art style, and sometimes I want to throw my monitor across the room due to everything that is going on. The game is very fun for me otherwise. I just wish there was a way to tone down everything that is happening on my screen at the same time. The game just seems to bright and flashy every where I go, other than an indoor environment. When I venture outside I must turn down the gamma, or else I find my eyes bleeding tears.

Everybody loves Toon Town, except Eddie Valliant, but that's because he was a wounded person.

Toon town is where anything can happen - Sheep can blow up into pieces of kibble and vending machines can sprout arms and legs and attack.

Their original lead designer (who got promoted to Disney, by the way - helped make Wreck it Ralph and Frozen since then) was sitting in a meeting where devs were talking about what seemed to be random things, "We need a witch on a broomstick with a chainsaw" and "we need a wizard who shoots lasers wielding a chess piece" and the artist said, "Excuse me, but what do these things all have in common?" Without missing a beat the devs said, "They're awesome, that's what they have in common."

Just to clear up some misinterpretations I'm seeing, I do in fact like heavily stylized games in short sessions. But I typically do not play mmos in short sessions. So in the case of Wildstar, the presentation conflicts with my playstyle for mmos. I do like the systems in place and I think carbine did a fantastic job. But the style of the game prohibits me from enjoying some marathon weekends of mmo goodness which is how I typically enjoy this genre.

I tried hard to get into this game I even kinda liked the style but they went overboard with the cartoony style to such a degree most of the characters end up looking ugly.  I tried to force myself into the mindset that this is like Borderlands 2 style (which I loved) but even that didn't work and I still didn't really like it.

I hated looking at my character which is such a bad thing for an MMO.

Horrible, I wanted to like this but after playing the beta there is no way I'll be buying it.  I tried to get lots of my friends to play Wildstar with me last week and all 6 of them were gone within a few hours.

As I've said in another thread, the open beta was a horrible idea.  Especially for this game.

As opposed to having everyone buy the game first so they can try it out? That would have worked out well.

Well when you download a game for free you are far more likely to quit within a couple of hours or less, if you spend $40 on it chances are you are going to play it for a lot longer and maybe it will grow on you.  Point being you will give it more of a chance to impress you.

There is also the mental thing where if you pay for something you put more value in it, as shown by the studies people have done in the past with other products.   Wines/Clothes etc.

As I said most of my friends quit within an hour, they barely gave it any chance at all.

I would argue that the backlash would have been out of this world. It's a very nice sentiment to have ("if you spend $40 on it chances are you are going to play it for a lot longer and maybe it will grow on you.") but past experiences tell us that's usually not how it goes down.

    Agree.

At least having an open beta will make ppl who doesnt like the game to save their money, in contrary to what happened with ESO, were the huge majority of ppl (at least the ppl i know both from real life and my ingame community) spend their money for a crap game.

So be thankful that WS gives the chance either with open beta or 7 days trial, to skip it if you don't like it and save your money. That's something :)
