I paid the $150 for Archeage

and am loving every minute of it. I dont get to play it all the time, I am married and have 2 kids....but I did the beta for WS, ESO, and played SWTOR,  GW2, FFXIV and Neverwinter heavily. This game blows them all away in my opinion and its not even close. I love the open world, farming, crafting, boating, exploration and most of all intense pvp.

Good for you Blackaftermath !  really hope you keep on enjoying it , its an excellent Mmo :)

Cool, but I don't really get the comparison you made. A sandpark blows away what are strictly themepark designs in choices? That should go without saying..DOes it have better story telling than TOR/ESO, does it have as many instanced dungeons/etc.. as NW? I mean what do we compare here :P?

Gratz on your purchace, glad you enjoy it. I also played the other mmo's you mentioned, so my curiosity for Archeage ampted up a tad more since you say its even better. I will be patient and purchase a Silver Pack which gives access to beta.

I am comparing overall happiness with the game and fun factor. Yes things that are more themepark focused will have better story telling and questing than Archeage. However, taking in consideration everything Archeage can do that you don't get with the other games....comparison isn't close. Overall fun factor Archeage is the winner by a large margin IMO. I am a pvp, openworld guy that loves exploring and crafting...so Archeage is the perfect fit for me

It will be worth the wait. I also enjoyed Shadowbane back in the day and I was very disappointed in Darkfall. Archeage is everything I have been looking for in an MMO and it has blown away all expectation. The world is very detailed, beautiful, dangerous and there is so much to do in this game if questing or pvp is not your thing

I'm not going to congratulate you on spending $150 for alpha access, but as long as you're enjoying it, enjoy.

Fair enough, I'm looking forward to trying the game out. It certainly sounds deep and engaging.

Well I've been playing the Alpha too and though it is better than shitfest games like ESO that doesn't amount to much. AA's questing and leveling is hella boring. The combat is very typical. They like to talk about the endless class choices but when you get down to it only a few are actually viable. It is open world but the pvp mechanics are poorly thought out and easily exploited. The crafting system has some very nice depth to it but the RNG factor really detracts from it.

Given the changes that will take effect before it goes to release it barely deserves to be called a sandbox game. Removing trade run rewards and trading them for ....cringe.....dailys?? Bad call.

It was designed to be a monthly sub game and it should have stayed that way. The mechanics are terrible for a F2P business model and you will not be able to accomplish much if you don't pay for a sub. You will have to deal with all the botting, trolling and cash grabbing pay to win item shop abuse that always comes with F2P games though.

The worst part is the list of technical problems like memory leaks, crashes, terrible performance for dx11 and an outdated 32 bit client makes this game a chore to play. If you are looking for the next great sandbox game this isn't it. It may have had the potential to be some years ago, but it's day is past even before it comes out in the west.

It's fine and dandy to pay $150 bucks for a shiny new toy but after you play with it a bit and start getting tired of it is when you need to consider if the $150 was worth it.

Spending $150 on a soon to be F2P game would kind of put me in the "this game is the GOAT!!!" camp also. I really don't see the long term appeal about it though. It does have some cool features, but it looks like it would get boring in the same amount of time all of the other games of late do and it will be F2P on top of that, meh.

Haven't seen enough of the streams, you tube vids or articles to make me think about even giving it a shot yet. Doubt that will ever change though, also its F2P and I really don't like that the most about it.

I bought into the alpha just out of curiosity inspired by the various videos by Force and the like.

Not played it much but so far so good.   The style is growing on me but the sheer detail and depth is hooking me.  What really got me ws while standing on a cliff 2 guys summoned a pirate vessel, jumped off the cliff and glided onto its deck. That was just so cool.

You make a big mistake there.
Archeage is a subscription based mmo with a free to play option.
As a freeloader you cant even build your house or farm and have 50% reduced labor point regen.
This might not sound like its bad, but once the game starts opening up you quickly run out of points.
And it will be hard to get stuff done as all the best goody's come from crafting.

I understand that its not for everyone, but its the only mmo that offers such insane list of features in a "sandbox fantasy setting"
There are tons of people who got tired of these simple "wow" clones !

Also these founders who pay 150 dollar / 130 Euro will not have their avatars deleted once the game goes live, their avatars are transfered to the Test Server for future builds and patches that needs to be tested.

And by the looks of it the alpha server is packed with thousands of players !!!
This means this mmo is not just "another" mmo is going to be one of the better mmo's that get released.

So while you can say its free to play crap bleh not going to bother !
You coulnt be more wrong as those freeloaders are going to get a rough time with those reduced labor points regen from start to finish :P
Specialy if you craft your own armor wich also happens to be the best in the game !

Trion seems to have hit the sweetspot for that.
Free to play = unlimited restricted trial - no housing / no farming / 50% reduced labor point.
Subscription = housing / farming / max regen for labor points

Nothing is pay to win like they did in Korea <3

That's what i am doing, I just can not see paying 150$ for alpha.

Everyone loves this game, but after watching streams and videos, I can't say I have seen anything enticing about it.. I want a sandbox but I can't fork over $150 for a game that appears so dull to me.  Maybe it's because I havn't actually stepped into the world and experienced it, but damn... Running through green fields and tab targeting monsters, planting trees, farming, trading... meh. Looks boring. But its free so maybe I will enjoy it when I get to try.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

150$... oh my I can hardly afford a few titles off a steam summer sale. So bad luck for me I have to wait until F2P launch.

(hey hey  if anyone wants to support the devs by gifting me an alpha key, I'd gladly take it :-)))

    birthday coming up "soon"..)

I have also noticed that everyone that has paid $150 for an alpha seems to love this game. If I was duped into paying $150 for a piece of bread, it would probably the best darn piece of bread I ever had too. There is a reason this game continues to fail miserably in every region it is released in. I'll let you pay the $150 to figure it out.

I wish i could drop 150 on it to play it but at the moment i have class to pay for lol. Maybe next month.
  • HedeonHedeon Member UncommonPosts: 997

have absolutely no understanding for your impatient use of 150$, but enjoy....just know you could have "trialed" the game for free, and see how it will be past launch, without a character wipe.

anyway I ll be patient, and pay the sub once AA launch for real.

People are fixated on the £110 i can understand a little but i dont see what the problem is

People have thrown 40+mill at a game that is nothing but a drawing but  for some reason this game gets slated over a an alpha version taht cahrges

I for one have signed up and loving every minute of it, the fact is the £110 covers 3 months of subs, some in game cash shop currency and few other nice to have things that will easily cover its own cost at the end. So for me was a no brainer.

Now of course if it was a straigh choce between this and feeding missus/kids paying bills etc, then i wouldnt' be in game, but im fortunate in that at my age having spare cash lying about isn't a a problem, and £110 is a night out at best

All i can say for those that want to play i woudl be tempted to stump up at least for the beta, this is a very fun game, yes doesn't break any new ground, but seems to have some key aspects done VERY VERY well

    cheers

    quaz

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

After paying 60 for ESO and only playing it 2 weeks this is a bargain at 150. I will get at least  6 months of enjoyment from this game, something that has not happened since LoTRO for me.

That's what so many people seem to be missing. You're not paying $150 for alpha. That's just one part of the offer.  The other is three months sub when the game goes live, $75 value of in-game credits to spend in the game shop and various goodies such as you would normally get with a CE. I reckon on at least six months play for my money too and that compares very favourably with other games.
