Any suggestions how a solo player is suppose to get to VR12?
There is some nice stuff in this patch but it's all either bug fixes or group based end game content. No new guilds, no new skill lines, no new solo quest lines. Most games fall into the end game raid or die trap at some point this has to be a record or fastest abandonment of what I would consider the strongest part of the game the level 1-50 content ever.
They should have made Craglorn VR5-10 and added new stuff for people 1- VR10 beyond bug fixes like new guilds and skill lines. This patch feels more like something that should have been in the release version of the game than something I paid 2 months of subs waiting for.
ESO is a great game at least 1-50 the VR levels and post release content so far hasn't been.
This game may not be for you, then. The vast majority of people who like to play solo won't like the VR content and won't pay for it.
I understand that MMOs are supposed to involve grouping with others. For me, it comes down to options. People like to group sometimes. But sometimes after a long day of work dealing with people, sometimes I just want to chill and kill some mobs and make a little progress. I'm not the guy linking my shiny new purples in chat for others to see. I don't care. I just want to relax and play a bit. I play MMOs because I like guild events. When we have a guild night in AvA I go. I love it. When we clear world bosses and dolmens or run dungeons, I enjoy participating and I'm always there.
It's the in-between times when I have a couple hours here or there to play, maybe during the day when there aren't many people on and I feel like *enjoying the quests* and actually listening to the voice acting -- then I do the quest and find I should be in a group. That is frustrating. There is no warning. You start off killing a few mobs and then you are deep in the middle of a dungeon and stuck. You have to wait for others to come along or suicide. That's not fun. It can be annoying.
So understand, and I've said it elsewhere, that this game "forces" grouping in that sense. Not everyone is leet enough to solo all the things.
If they want people to sub and enjoy their quests, they should make them soloable or scalable for groups (making them both challenging and fun is the trick that great game designers can do), just like the 1-50 part of the game. Then they should keep going with the group content and group zones. That's great, like I said, for guilds. In my case, I have zero real life friends who play games. Well, my brother-in-law played ESO but he quit at VR3. So I'm on my own now except for guild activities and pugs. Pugs are not that good most of the time, I've found.
I think people rage and hang around the forums after saying they are going to quit because they put a lot of time into this game and they really wanted to like it, but ZOS seems to be doing everything they can to drive people away. It seems like they want to be a niche game with a small player base. So please try to understand those of us who rage in the forums. It's because of time (and money -- Imperial editions, etc) "invested" into this game.
As of 9PM EDT on 5/23, we have completed a hotfix on both megaservers that reverted the difficulty of Veteran Rank content (50+ and 50++) to what it was prior to patch 1.1.2. Thank you for your patience as we fixed the issue.
EDIT 2: After playing in Craglorn with my guild had a lot fun. Spent about 3 hours running around killing bosses, doing group quests and dungeons at VR5. I got about 900,000 xp. It was a pretty good chunk of VR5. It's also a loot pinata. You won't like it if you're solo or you just want to tag along with a zerg. But if you go in with your guild, it can be a fun time. I'd day it was a good patch (I didn't get any of the bugs others are complaining about, so I don't know about that) after they fixed the difficulty as mentioned above.

GOOD NEWS UPDATE: They fixed some of the difficulty issues! http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/
