Caravan Trade Routes MMO

theJPKtheJPK Member Posts: 91

Previously I was a huge fan of EVE Online, anyone who is familiar with this game knows the only way to trade is with expensive hauling ships & the specialization to pilot them. This was an amazing feature, pilots with hauling specialization may belong to corporations with mining barges that supply resources. When transporting the resources through dangerous territory, the hauler would require to travel in a caravan with other haulers supported by specialized fighter pilots willing to do whatever it takes to defend the haulers from threats such as gate camps. For those unfamiliar with gate campers, they're kinda like bridge trolls.

Recently I discovered a Q4 game yet to be released called Legends of Silkroad that has a similar trade mechanism to EVE Online. I was just wondering if there are any other MMORPG's the community may know about that also has caravan trade systems. Including sandbox/themepark games with local banking such as Darkfall Online, and the trading aspects they may have like ships & full looting.

Not even Eve Online has the "caravans" you speak of. People move stuff with carriers and jump freighters. If something cannot fit inside either of those, you put it in a regular freighter and bridge it using a titan.

I know the Devs talked bout caravans in Pathfinder Online but that game is a bit off.  Essentially it will be a EVE inspired sandbox game in a fantasy setting of Pathfinder.  Details I am unsure of and $100 gets you into early enrollment this Aug with open enrollment scheduled sometime in 2016.  Goblinworks whose developing Pathfinder Online is incorperating features in stages and am unfamiliar with the roadmap of features.

Game is a ways off but something that you might want to keep on your radar.

Silkroad had this, but it was a very artificial system, buying pre made resources from a NPC only to sell them to another NPC in the next for a marginal profit.  The only game where Ive seen something like EvE but in a fantasy setting is Mortal Online. It has local banks/mails/brokers and no insta travel, so you have to transport goods if you want to sell them elsewhere. It also has regional resources, so you can buy low in a city where its abundant and sell high some other place where its in demand.

The caravans depend on your friends or the ppl you hire to help you, they usually need to scout the area and be ready to hold the aggro of any attacker so you can escape with the goods. You can also try to go solo thru less transited zones..

Played silk road many years ago, and this is probably the only part of the game i really liked.

It was alot of fun getting friends together to try and do a big trade run. and it was even more fun throwing on your thief outfit and trying to jack big trade runs.

would love to see this mechanic in more games, its a great risk reward system that brings pvp to the open world. if u are able to complete your trade run you make great money, and if u thief it you can make some decent cash. plus traders can hire Hunters to try and protect them on their runs. good hunters can make some decent cash fighting off thiefs.

and what was cool was you had to put on a outfit that changed how you looked, thief/hunter/trader and once it was on you couldnt just switch real fast you were locked into that roll for a amount of time. and you were fair game as far as pvp to anybody else with a outfit on. and it masked your name so you never know who is attacking you, could be anybody.

No not at all. Trading is HUGE! What you are referring to was what Korea did with the 1.0 patch where they removed one of the game's main currency types that was rewarded via trade and replaced it with themepark style daily quests for that same currency. Even with the daily change trading was alive and well.

Irregardless, Trion has already stated that the NA version will not include this change and that the currency will remain as a reward for intercontinental trade (enemy/contested territory).

You may want to try Puzzle Pirates.

Uncharted Waters Online kind of goes in that direction, but it's mostly buy from this NPC, ship it, and sell to that NPC--but other players can attack you along the way, steal your stuff, and sell it to the NPC themselves.

Basically how ArcheAge does it, but oh what dimension it gives to a simple trading activity.

Last evening my guild decided to do a quick run to help people complete their quest to receive their 16 x 16 farm deed.  This involves crafting a certain trade pack, and then transporting it across the ocean to a port on the enemy faction's coastline.

Started simple enough, though from the moment we tried to set sail near mid-continent we were shadowed by hostile looking Galleons, so we hugged the coast and decided to land again and pack mule over the mainland peninsula rather than chance the narrow straights out of the inlet.

On the other side, launched two swift running boats, one with all of the packs, the 2nd for support.  No sooner got underway and we picked up an enemy galleon (suspect spies in port tipped them off) and the chase was on.  Fortunately they waffled between pursuing the decoy catamaran and ours, and ultimately fell behind. (though they were added to the guild's KOS list for future reference)

But then we ran into a swarm of seabugs, our ship was overun with small, mother and one large seabug, so we were soon fighting for our lives, all while trying to maintain our lead on the galleon.

So fended off that attack, and made our way into the enemy port.  As we approached the dock a player there had a siege mortar and began shelling our ship so we despawned it and swam in, only to find 1/2 dozen enemy players underwater who managed to trap one of our players and kill him and take his pack.   The rest of us made it safely to the NPC merchant to sell, and fortunately even the guy who lost his pack got quest completion credit for getting close enough before dying.

Just for laughs, we attacked  the enemy faction player with the mortar on the dock and managed to destroy it, without taking a loss ourselves.

All of this took place in the span of a single hour, and so far I'm finding these adventures are happening multiple times every day.

Even though I am a carebear at heart, this adds so much more to the overall game play and I recommend this title to people willing to find a good guild and give this title a go when it launches.
