the thing about WOD is, it will take a while till it's out till that time wildstar will have prolly 2 new content patches what blizzard never could accomplish within 1 year. So till WOD, Wildstar will have a pretty solid player base i think and the dmg won't be that big because most wow players think wildstar is a wow clone and won't play it anyway just because of that. And when WOD comes out wow players keep playing wow as always, only this time when blizzard fails to deliver with WOD because by that time that WOD hits there has been NO new content for 12-15 months in WOW. I doubt people will be happy about that. Plus what Wildstar has above blizzard are the post release updates that are already set for the first 12 months. So i kinda doubt that wildstar will lose that much to wow because blizzard is till a slowpoke at spitting out any new content for the players that pay each month for the game. Why? i know because i am playing wow since 2004 not always it goes more like this. EXp comes out i play 3 months and then quit wow for 6-12 months till new content comes out and play it causal, and this a lot what WOW players do. So WOW is not a constant MMO anymore that keeps all those 7.6mil subs active true the hole year. Now on the other hand i played wildstar liked it bought it and if they can dish out enough content each 1-2 months where i have dreamed of in wow for many years that did not happen. I will def stick to wildstar and drop WOW 4 always, because why would i will be willing to play for a MMO where there is no new content for 6-14 months? Only a idiot would pay cash for no content.
1. The fact it is Themepark doesn't make it a WOW Clone. Themepark has been around for a while. The only thing WOW did was "improve" it (Yea, I know. But you have to admit, when Blizzard polishes a turd; they make it glisten and smell like roses.)
2. Cartoony graphics, stylized graphics, "Real" looking graphics. Honestly, who cares. While I don't necessarily "like" cartoony graphics, they do hold up longer than somewhat "real" looking graphics.
3. Gameplay? Seriously? Unless a game comes out with some ridculously different gameplay mechanic for feature, lets be honest; IT WILL BE THE SAME AS ALMOST EVERY MMO OUT THERE. The gameplay is definitely similar, but it is more crisp and improved IMO.
4. I can't comment too much on the PVP. I didn't have the chance to mess around with it in beta.
5. Things to do? Well, to be fair, all you have to do is quest. Doesn't matter if it is your standard Themepark quest hub to quest hub, the random quest you get a "cell" call on, or even your path quest. You're still questing. Period. That is not "fun".
The only thing the game really has going for it (well a few things) is:
1. Nice Housing System
2. I love the character customization
3. The combat is more fun than most other Themepark games.
I like the game, however I'm not completely sold just yet (if my friends buy it, that might be enough to nudge me towards getting it too)
If anything, I'll stick to my MOBAs until something better comes out. If all else fails, I still have Landmark
Raquelis in various games Played: Everything Playing: Nioh 2, Civ6 Wants: The World Anticipating:Everquest NextCrowfall, Pantheon, Elden Ring
Does this opinion topic really require an all caps title? As far as I'm concerned it's a wow clone with a few tweaks. This doesn't instantly make it a bad game. WoW was once a pretty awesome game wasn't it?
Just hope that Wildstar doesn't pull a WoW and start dumbing down it's mechanics and character progression in the name "Broader Audience" (Because you know the xXCallofDuty420sohighbroXx people were just waiting for the game to get easier for them to join)
Personally I have no interest in the game, I only played one of the beta weekend events but it was enough for me to realize that I should save my money for something better suited to me. That being said I still try to recommend that everyone give it a shot or at the very least go the website and check it out because it is a pretty well done game.
I don't know why the OP (and others) are so mad at Wildstar being labled a WoW clone. Being an actual WoW clone is a compliment, as we have yet to see an actual WoW clone.
Since WoW, we have seen themeparks launch with (not mentioning added in later updates) buggy raids and dungeons, ranked battlegrounds, but no ranked arenas, no duengon finder, and poor engine. - SWTOR
We have seen MMOs release with polished raids and dungeons, but very unbalanced battlegrounds with no arenas. - Rift, AoC, TSW
We have seen MMOs release with polished dungeons, open world PVP zones, battlegrounds, but no raids, no trinity, no arenas, no dungeon finder. - GW2
We have seen MMOs release with trinity, polished dungeons, good open 3 faction PVP, but no raids or ranked arenas - ESO
No MMO since wow has launched with all of the following WoW popular staple content types and features:
Smooth and responsive game engine capable of handling many players on screen without issue
Challenging and polished Raids
Challenging and polished dungeons
Well designed holy trinity mechanics
Cross server dungeon finder
Competitive PVP battlegrounds
Competitive rated PVP arenas with multiple brackets
Thats it....those things right there.....no game since WoW has launched with those fundemental themepark content types....all have launched with some of those things, but none have launched with all of them, until Wildstar.
Wildstar may have many other additonal features and play totally different than WoW, but its the only MMO since WoW to actually copy all of its features, and more...and for that, we should all be happy that a game is finally doing it...
I am playing wow at the moment and was in wildstar beta and couldn't play it for more then few minutes....I play wow and ffxiv currently and give me much more then wildturkey.
clone or not is not relative wow is still superior to a 1 zone starting game

I hope this game does well i did play in beta and thought it was okay ( to be fair i didn't stick around that long )
I think for many of us we are sick of seeing the same MMO frame work with subtle variations so we see 'another themepark' and the knee jerk reaction is its a wow clone. I thought the game was funny i liked some of the ideas but i was disappointed by all the paths but settler. I felt like the classes were all things i had seen before. The thing i really did like though was the telegraphs they get really complicated and frankly the tab targeting we have all seen in many MMO's bores me to death. I may play after launch but gonna wait a awhile and see how it goes.
Many jaded gamers are gonna call any themepark game a wow clone i wouldn't worry about it, every game forum has people who make assumptions that are not always accurate.

Depends upon the assumption. But if you were in the beta, got off the starting ship, and still call it a wow clone. No it would not be an assumption. But it would still be an incorrect statement.

6) Anyone who claims to have played this game and says its a WoW clone has never played it. Its fun, challenging, and can appease the casual gamer up thru hard core gamers.
Since people that enjoy playing WoW can make the same claim that it is fun, challenging, and can appease the casual gamer up through hardcore gamers, I can (and will) make the claim that it is a WoW clone based on that statement alone.
I first played W* shortly after EU Arkship 2013, until I literally could not force myself to login anymore, so yes, I have indeed played the game.
A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.

That is probably the worst definition of WoW clone I have ever read. And that says a lot.
I couldn't have read that right, or else you could say adult sport leagues are WoW clones.
I can fly higher than an aeroplane. And I have the voice of a thousand hurricanes. Hurt - Wars
OP I believe you. My own experiance with Wildstar was brief but fun. But as I have said in other topics I am a one man MMORPG player and for now ESO is that "relaxed" MMORPG for me. Wouldn't ESO feel like a ES game I might have jumped into Wildstar due to it's many feature's.
Originally posted by Wraithstar I certainly agree with early levels not doing justice for the game. first 10-15 levels were soooo bad but once you get into dungeons and whatnot its becomes so much more. every fight is very interactive and fun. They should have had a dungeon system like WoW and rift where you could pretty much level to max just from doing dungeons. From what ive heard the best way to level is to grind high XP mobs with friends
That is a really long time to reverse a BAD first impression. I played in a few of the betas and what you are saying is that I just didn't get far enough and the game is horrible until it miraculously gets much better. But why would you ever do that to a game? I mean a game should be fun from the beginning, not after enough play that many drop the game before they get there.

I'm sure that MMORPG veterans will be bored of the first few levels of every MMORPG that comes out. We all know the mechanics of the genre in a general sense and each game must go through the "tutorial" phase so that new players can figure out what to do. Some make it skipable (which Carbine is working on getting out before release) for those that know what they're doing already.
Even so, getting to 15 and getting to adventures might be an 5 hour ordeal for veterans. Less if you know where you're going. If 5 hours is too long, then perhaps it just isn't going to work out for you and wildstar.
I can fly higher than an aeroplane. And I have the voice of a thousand hurricanes. Hurt - Wars
Of course it is! Why would you play a game otherwise? I think WoW is actually more fun that W*, but understand that's just my opinion so don't generally use it as a concrete "Pro" for a game.
2) Not a WoW clone...the character graphics are not like WoW, they are a combo of Orcs Must Die and some characters from the old "Loony Toons" "Bug Bunny" cartoons, and the only thing similar to WoW is some of the landscapes, which blow WoWs away.
Correct, I would say that it's not a WoW clone in the same way that Daffy Duck isn't a clone of Donald Duck. I mean Donald had a blue shirt and white feathers, right?
3) There is a ton to do...I mean a TON and if you some how run out of things to do, just run off in any direction and you will find something!
Wow.......said any MMO ever!
4) PvP is so different than WoW, more complex, i.e. moodie masks and the mechanics to their spawning and when you can grab them, also dont expect anyone to speed hack across the landscape or any other type of speed buff when carrying a flag/moodie mask.
5) Zerg? What Zerg? I see the teams that win have one really goodplayer guarding the masks, while the rest of team grabs masks, its called TEAMWORK....organizationand teamwork wins.
I'll group these together. If you believe that you can be successful in WoW without any sort of strategy..... you're probably right. Although the same will probably be said for W* too. However, if we're talking "Next Level" PvP, like elite levels of PvP, there's always strategy. It's always complex. Also, just because there aren't tools out there right now to tell you if your composition or build is good or not, doesn't mean it's complex. In time (not that much time, but in time), everyone will be optimized and PvP will be on rails just like every other game and people will be complaining as they always do.
6) Anyone who claims to have played this game and says its a WoW clone has never played it. Its fun, challenging, and can appease the casual gamer up thru hard core gamers.
I'm not saying this is a WoW clone, but why worry about that stereotype? Games worth their salt will stand on their own. I'll probably be playing Wildstar at some point in the near future. Probably not at launch because I'm still enjoying ESO, but I will play it because I enjoyed my time during the beta (apart from minor graphics issues). I think you'll have an uphill battle convincing anyone that it's not a WoW clone though. As I said, though, why is that a bad thing? I really hope it does end up being WoW2.0
7) Also it has lasting value..unlike Elder Scrolls which does offer a nice relaxing immersive game, with very interesting crafting, it still wears thin quickly. Not so with Wild Star, there is no unfun grind like parts of WoW or shallowness as in ESO.
Again, this is perfect! I'm always looking for games without unfun gameplay!
It may be a WoW clone, but unlike the numerous recent MMO failures..this one actually has the depth and content to back itself up. Oh, and the content will already be there at release, pretty rare for an MMO these days.

It's WoW 2.0
They've taken everything that's good in WoW and made it even better.
The combat system is a major improvement over WoW.
Devs have said they are especially looking for EX-WoW gamers to join Wildstar.
This is why WS might become a mainstream MMORPG.
Wildstar is a WoW clone in a positive way.

Cartoony graphics ... check

40 man raid endgame ... Check (even though WoW has rethought this idea)

Guess the combat was so unremarkable i forgot to mention it..... (fixed).
Lolipops !
Not in WoW but is in WS ... continued...
Aiming skills
Limited Action Set that can (and should be) changed from pull to pull
Solo story instances (so the solo players can see the FULL story without raiding)
Weapon imbuements - additional abilities/attributes that are unlocked by completing raid achievements (80 people vs 2 bosses for the final ability)
Buffs/Debuffs from one class cannot be covered by another.
One raid difficulty setting.
Paths (Soldier, Explorer, Scientist, Settler)
Double-jump (nothing special I'll admit)
All I got for one sitting. WoW clone indeed.
I can fly higher than an aeroplane.
