Asia never stops amazing

So, while we have [mod edit] claiming that Gw2 is dead, because of their own opinion and/or XFire (who uses that anymore anyway ) it is worth nothing to stop by and check that Gw2 is so hot in Asia right now that it trumped WoW.

See it a lot with various folks who dislike the game and so forth.  Typical forum stuffs.

Good for China release!  Hope it keeps doing well.

Man, 1st month after NA/EU release GW2 was best MMO ever made and Mesiah of new generation of MMO games. 6 month later exodus started. We'll see how China will be doing after that period.

Let's see how it fares out in three and six months. It's a honeymoon period for GW2.

It may be promising since KongZhong is pushing really hard for esports. I'd say GW2 might be a niche on that realm since it's competing with LoL. We'll see how the China meta is for PvP--kinda excited to see what they can come up with.

I am disappointed with GW2 (although I wouldn't say it's dead lol). So your logic is that because I am British, my opinion counts unlike those "muricans" :D

You can only compare Wow to another game that needs a sub to play, you might as well just compare Call of Duty to Wow. So until you can show me a game with a sub that has Wow's number nobody beats it.

There are some interesting names on that list Demigods and Semi Devils.  Wonder what that game is like.

I'm not surprised the game is popular in asia, it's a good game, but how do you compare number of players of a  b2p with a sub game after the first month or 2 ?

You can never compare a "boxes sold/accounts registered" number to a subscription number. People try, but people are silly.

I've never heard of 5 of the titles on that list, including #2, #3, and #4.

Beating out WoW is a good thing but losing to a 9 year old title I've never heard of probably isn't. I suppose its all arbitrary but since I'm not Chinese its hard to tell if I should be disappointed or pleased.

Well they are counting active players, as they should! Obviously Gw2 is packed full of players. And you can't say that this is false claims article, because well its not limitted to MMOs or a business model. As such the article shows what chinese players are playing right now, be it a MMO or an FPS or MOBA or whatever.

If its going to be processed easier by your brainz, you can consider this as UK Weekly Top 20. Or a box office blockbusters TOP charts

Hopefully they can retain their players in China since they used US/EU as a test bed and learned a lot from their mistakes. China is a bigger market I think for this type of game, especially with the way the cash shop is set up. I hope Anet is successful and learned from their missteps with the US/EU version and they can bring content and expansions to keep them interested. The recent changes by Anet have been mostly positive, but I think they should definitely focus on the China market as the US/EU ship has sailed, they would be hard pressed to fill those servers back up again.

Good luck Anet and GW2, hoping for the best for you and hope our Chinese friends enjoy the game :)

Im just curious how they are counting active player numbers of a game that doesnt release active player numbers. I'm not syaing you are wrong, just asking you to point me in the right direction.

I think the OP needs to read the source. No where does it say the hottest game is based on people playing.

Eh, I wouldn't venture to guess that it's a minority saying it. It's a fairly large chunk based off my observations of server population over the past 2 years and the fact they had to merge all the servers together to get enough people to do world events. It's become a very successful niche game to be sure, but having been in more than my fair share of 200+ player guilds and watching them die over the last 2 years I'd say they have about 500k-1mil people still playing, which is a smashing success when compared to other niche games, but it doesn't approach the monolithic titan we all know and love :p

1/3rd player retention is great for a B2P game and I think they will do better in China based off all the mistakes that were made in US/EU. Anet isn't stupid, they do learn from their mistakes most of the time.

It's kind of a moot point because both of us are using personal observations rather than hard numbers which for some reason everyone but WoW is scared to show anyone.

The Megaserver wasn't created to solve low population to do world events. Those were easily doable in most servers, even the lower pop ones.

Megaserver exists to populate the areas with less players and it did so successfully, while a server merge would have problems doing that.

According to you, that monolithic titan we all know and love, also merged servers with their cross realm zones.
