Brownout problem

miguksarammiguksaram Member UncommonPosts: 835
So I had what appeared to be a brownout earlier and now both of my computers fail to start unless I have them plugged into an UPS. I can't currently get to a friends to test them at this time. Should I be concerned or does this most likely mean the power to my house is still so unstable they simply won't power on? All other electronics in the house appear to be functioning properly. Oh and I should mention the UPS go straight to battery mode when powered on even when plugged into an outlet. The internet router is not funtioning either.

That was the first thing I checked. It's not a tripped circuit. Literally all electronics in the house work except the computers and routers if not plugged into an UPS.  I have two computers in separate rooms both experiencing the same issue on top of the primary router.

Have you tried plugging them into different outlets--in particular, outlets in which other electronics demonstrably work?  And preferably something that works for complex, voltage-sensitive consumer electronics like a television as opposed to a light bulb.  It might be that the outlet is having problems.

So it turned out my initial feeling was right and it was a brownout followed by a blackout that lasted for about 4 hours.  However, to respond, the issues I was experiencing happened regardless of the outlet.  Too the extent that the same outlet which had no issue providing power to my TV or stereo wouldn't power the computers or router.  I tested outlets in every room in the house which seemed to provide power to other electronics with the same results.

I was merely frustrated earlier when I typed up the OP because I had just gotten finished making my characters in Wildstar.

Thank you all for the friendly advice!

    This thread made me smile.

I'm glad none of your stuff is broken.
