Thinking of playing

in Final Fantasy XI

I'm thinking about getting this game since the game itself only costs $20 now instead of $45. The comments I've most often seen is this game takes a long time to level up, so if I play for maybe 2 hours a day, will it be fun? Or is this something you have to play for 4+ hours a day if you ever want to do anything?

Also, is the expansion worth it when you're just starting out? What do you get extra if you buy it?

EDIT: Also, forgot to add this. What level does the game force groups onto you? And how long does it take to get that high? By force you into it I mean that the mobs are so hard, or so grouped together, that you don't have a chance as a soloer AND/OR you have no chance of getting good equipemnt/items unless you're in a group. I don't mind playing in a group, but there are times where I'd also just like to play on my own for a bit.

    image This game does take a while to lvl up and its mostly grinding, but that gives it longevity. I only level up when I need to so its not a problem for me.

    Most likely when you get further into the game and it becomes very group dependant, and very guild dependant you will probably need to play more than 2 hours. Orginizing stuff can take 1+ hours on occation.

    Both expansions are not needed to play and will have basically no effect on you. Both are all mid but mostly high lvl based. If you buy the 1st expansion you will get new jobs that become accesable at lvl 30(ninja, Dark knight, samuri, etc.). Both expansions come with new areas(again high-mid lvl based), new quests, new armor, and some other miner things.

    I recommend getting it even if you only have two hours a day. If you get a good guild it will work out. This game will last you a very long while if you stay with it ( iv benn playing since it came out on ps2 a year and 3 months ago.).

    Also when Xbox 360 hits stores this cristmas season FFXI will be available on it with upgraded HD graphics, etx.

    image As for your edit questions, at lvl 10 it becomes very hard to lvl solo. It is still possible to make it to 20 solo but after it is just hell. If you lvl to 30, get the extra job Beast Master from the 1st expansion you can solo basically all the way up. Large events or missions will take groups due to level caps and just difficulty.

    In the end, grouping can be a problem if you let it be. Leveling is like 2% of what you can do in the game. A large portion involves little or no fighting. You can even grow a plant in your house if you want to.

    Doesn't the game come with the first expansion already? That's what it says on the box anyways ::::02::

    I'll probably wait on chains of prometia (or howerver you spell it) until I know what I'm doing in the game ::::35::

    Growing a plant huh? Wow that sounds like fun!::::06:: Not sure about that lol! I truely hope people don't sit there online and watch something grow...that better be something that just happens without your presence being needed ::::35::
