Questing in W*

Hey Everyone,

 

What's the questing like in W*? I'm thinking about getting the game and the limiting factor for me is how the questing is.

 

Do you often just have like...3 or 4 quests and move from hub to hub working on those 3 or 4 quest lines, or is it stack up 25 quests and grind them out?

    It depends on the area really, I have had areas of a 3-4 then they may lead to another set or be done for that, and I have had hubs of a bunch of quests and just gather and go, so mixed I would say?

     If you don't already know, Wildstars questing is the known generic MMORPG questing

    There are things like challenges, or Path objectives littered throughout to break it up, but for the most part it's very standard affair

    Hard to gauge from the outside looking in with the nature of the pro posts, the only post I've seen thus far describing the questing was someone saying they didn't like the nature of having 25 tasks to perform at any given time. Considering that I'm assuming it's closer to "or is it stack up 25 quests and grind them out?

    The quests seem to accordion. When you get to a new outpost, you'll get something for the main story and pick up a bunch of side quests. Most of these objectives are pretty close to one another. As you complete them, some of them you can turn in via holo-communicator without returning to camp and some require a physical turn in. Some of that batch of quests give follow up quests etc. etc. until you finish the storyline for that area then you get your breadcrumb to the next. There's also items scattered about that bestow quests as well.

    TL:DR, the questing in W* is a fairly standard affair. It seems to be the one area they didn't really try to improve on the formula

    In my opinion WS questing  is surprisingly terrible, I expected somewhat modern way of lvling up, but they managed to take classic quest hubs and make them even more boring. Questing doesnt really matter in the end tho.. and If this means they had more time and resources to make group content great then more power to them.

    When I was in beta I routinely had 10-15 quests in my log which all took me to roughly the same spot to kill 10 of this or 10 of that.  Once you finish the hub you get quests to take you to the next one.

    It was pretty much the definition of quest hub to me.

    Yeh pretty much this.  It's basically hub questing, but your log will barely go past 10 or so quests.  I don't think you will see your quest log go up to 20-30 active quests like in WoW or Lotro.  Keep in mind that your "Path" quests are a little more sandbox-ish in approach.  Your path quests are kept in a separate type of log and you can do them any order that you want, at least that's how the Settler path is.  You will also occasionally find some random quests that are out in the world if you explore a little that are away from the typical hubs.

    Questing is standard MMO fair till level 12 and you start to get some of Wildstars fun. Shiphands solo dungeons. Quest areas by level 15 start to show the game has teeth and the skill level goes up. By level 30 you will see that some of the quest area are something new and unique. They start playing the enviorment against you in ways no MMO has. You just cant judge the game level 1-10 or you will miss out on some hardcore solo game. Then you get into Adventure zones and dungeons and teaming turns out to be hardcore as well.

    I find it hard to have sympathy for people picking up every quest and then complaining. I pick up about 4-5 quests in the hub and then come back, which is usually good because I need to vendor stuff anyway and turning in quests sometimes bumps you over to the next level.

    If you are just interested in efficiency and rushing through them, and questing doesn't matter anyway, then what difference does it make how many are in a hub? it's usually exactly enough to move you onto the next area/zone.

    You can also elect to skip quests and do Pvp or Adventures or Dungeons if the quests are starting to feel like a grind, any one of those other options will prove enough Xp to move you on to the next area/zone.

    if you played asian f2p mmos, or other mmos like Rift, Aion, Lineage 2, then its the same questing. 100 kill 10 rat quests in hub A, 100 kill 10 rats collect 10 bear assess in hub B, 100 kill the rats collect 10 more asses in hub C.

     

    They added a path system to give more sense of character progression beyond generic questing. The path idea is pretty cool but they fell short implementing their own idea. Its also generic and not very useful in the actual world. And is more of the same, kill 3 waves, scan some plants, follow an arrow to a spot that is marked on your map to discover something that was already discovered on the map...... yay more of the same.

     

    It is unfortunate because the game is very pretty.

     

    Also there are challenges, sounds interesting right?, nope.... challenges are the same kill 10 rats collect 10 bear asses but with a limited time so you will grind faster...... yay.......image

     

    Very unfortunate.
