The game isn't running out of steam. The server is packed 24/7 but it's Alpha and everyone's progress is destined to be consigned to test server status eventually. I'm still really enjoying the game but I don't want to burn out before the game has even been released so will start to wind down the hours I'm putting in very soon.
Being in Alpha has given those of us taking part the opportunity to learn the ropes and devise a strategy for the head start. I'll test my plan when the beta stage goes live but after that will probably go play something else until launch.
As for the debate about PvE servers, I don't see them as neccessary. The whole point about AA is how they have managed to mix both PvE and PvP play styles in one game just as SWG did all those years ago. Don't believe anyone who tries to tell you this game is a hardcore PvP game. It isn't. Open world PvP is there for those that want it but those that don't can almost completely avoid it and still have a ton of things to do. Much more than in an average themepark PvE game when I think about it.
The only thing related to PvP that everyone will have to do if they want a large farm is the quest to hand in a trade pack to the opposite faction's continent and you will probably die at least once trying. Once that is out of the way, you never need to go there again if you don't want to and even if you do, it's possible to go in one of the regular peace time periods so that only the sea crossing itself becomes slightly risky.
In fact, the degree of PvP you get involved in is completely up to you. Go fight the enemy in one of the red zones for full on battles, or play cat and mouse by carrying out PvE missions in war zones while trying to avoid enemy players. Using your clipper to do trade missions has a risk of being intercepted while at sea and adds a bit of excitement even if you don't intend getting seriously involved in PvP.
I have to disagree about your PvP points. The game IS hardcore Pvp whether you want to participate in it or not. You WILL get ganked, maybe even often. You will get killed at level 30 by a group of 5 level 50's while you wait to enter a dungeon. If you have your farm or house in a PvP zone, which is EXTREMELY likely, you will get ganked while minding your own business doing your farming or decorating.
There are NOT a lot of PvE dungeons. In fact, the PvE aspects of this game are minimal when compared to other, newer, PvE oriented games like FF XIV.
Its never happening Trion has already confirmed this several times in their livestreams. If you take out the PVP in ArcheAge you will literally break the game. Even many of the games not direct pve systems are intertwined with the pvp system.
For those that want a game like this but PVE servers only wait for Black Desert.
Trion also said, and I quote, "Rift will never be Free to play."
Yea, there will eventually be PvE servers, despite what they are saying now.
You may as well be talking about Planetside 2 or EVE Online releasing PVE servers.
They are launching with the one server type because the game would not work on a very basic and fundamental level with a PVE server. The game's mechanics ensure this is just not possible. It has nothing to do with what anyone does or does not want or like. It can't happen and it won't happen.
Not every game works the same. If there were no PVP in Archeage everyone would be totaly filthy rich with a wrecked economy delivering full merchant ships solo across the ocean for maximum payout every time with no loss and in the end.. no real reward because all that money won't buy you the ability to compete in high end raid content because ocean PVP is the end game raid content.
Obviously, the PvE servers will have to perform differently than the PvP servers. Pirate raids that are NPC controlled, different reward structure, different end game focus.
DAoC had/has a very successful PvE only server where keep sieges are done vs NPC characters. The rules are different, the end game is raid focused and PvE keep sieges.
It has been done before and will be done again, and I don't see them abandoning 60-80% of players just to keep PvP only servers.

Based on my experience w/ AA i find it hard to believe they would go through the trouble you're talking about to make a PvE server.
As it is now, there is very VERY little PvE content, and the changes you're talking about seem masive. For a game that is struggling in it's home country and abroad, not released in the NA/EU market, this seems like a pipe dream
After the fiasco surrounding End Of Nations, I'm surprised to see on how naive people have been on pre ordering ArcheAge at 150$. As far as AA losing steam goes, it lost all of it's steam a few years ago. From P2P awesome sauce , to a money sink P2W cash shop, loads of awesome features that have been dumbed down to a caveman level of intellect. AA won't do any better then TESO, and that my friends, is a straight fact, like it or not. AA makes WildStar the clear GOTY winner. I would of thrown EQ Next in the lot of GOTY, but chances are we won't be seeing EverQuest Next until mid to late 2015. So basically, all the awesome titles are releasing in 2015 ! 2015 will be 2004 all over again .
Darn! Can you imagine what kind of year 2015 will be with Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, Novus Aeterno, EverQuest Next releasing one after another?!?! Good thing I'm putting money aside every Friday, because 2015 will be one expensive year!

You may be right about AA. I do think, however, it may do a little better than TESO just because it's F2P. Some people may get in and enjoy it, although, the first few levels are pretty lack luster. It's a total crap shoot. Some of it may depend on how Trion implements the F2P aspects.
$150 is a lot, no doubt, by any reasonable standard. I'm glad I spent it, don't regret it. I'm having a good time playing a game I've been following for years. But to each his/her own.

Most RU players already quit. The game is sinking fast. Good graphics can only get you so far, with out content or PvP.

Graphics?! I wouldn't say that graphics are one of AA's strong points.
The crafting, farming, housing, fishing, naval combat, and general gank festival are the strengths of this game.

Crafting. farming, housing, fishing - is just a flashy way to grind money in the game and waste alote of time and 15$.
Naval combat - was ruined by gliders. Once people glide from one ship to another, all your Naval combat expereince is over.
Gank fest - is useless, since you don't lose or gain anything in PvP.
To you crafting, farming, housing, and fishing are flashy, grindy, and a money sink, ok, to me it's lots of fun, like it was in SWG. Not your thing, I can accept that.
Your points about Naval combat and "The Gank Fest".... I'm not sure about it.
Ganking is just fun for some people. They get off on it. I NEVER gank people, mostly because I'm no good at pvp. It's a minor annoyance to me to get ganked, but overall, it makes my game experience more "realistic" for lack of a better term. Makes the world a more dangerous place.
Gliders are fun for me, Ships are fun for me. Boarding another ship for combat is acceptable on some level. I dunno...
One thing is for sure, this game will NOT appeal to many many MANY mmo'ers, especially PvE'ers.
Don't you get infamy and/or Honor points for PvP? I've also read you will get xp for PvP in next patch.

Yea, it is. It's how I enjoy wasting my time. It's what Descartes would describe as a "distraction" from what's important in life. I always do my work and chores during the day, and my "colosal waste of time" distractions at night.
My dad would say, "that's why they make chocolate and vanilla icecream".

Don't count on EQ:N in 2015 either. Landmark is a fantastic test bed, but when your tech tools are still in development you are a long long way from a shipping MMORPG. Landmark doesn't even have the innovative AI system in yet (Or combat, or NPC's, or gear, or death or...)
No interest in Wowstar for me, Archeage is far more innovative.

A colossal waste of time is the one you are spending here. If you don't like the game why waste time to bash it, play something else.
Originally posted by bibensd yea sadly in my opinion ArcheAge is 2 years and 150$ alpha money grab short. prolly wont ever play it along with most mmorpg gamers. granted i've played the russian beta for free and all i have to say is Meh.
Yet you click on the thread to a game you dislike? I'm confused, I never read games I dislike, so if you dislike it so much why bother reading or making comments? Most gamers, oh really?? You mean people on this site who whine about every single MMO.. I think there are a lot of people who game but like to troll, and some like to whine because they don't work and want everything for free and whine..

Scheduling my life around 20-25 other people for the slight chance of winning the item I want over everyone else while repeating the same content via raiding week after week to me is the true waste of time! I will farm all day long happily in comparison, at least I know what I will get out of it.
I cannot think of a bigger time waster than raiding in an MMO so I will argue that just about every feature AA has is a better use of time than just about any themepark/raiding game out there.
Don't be fooled by this.
The PvE server in Daoc was less populated than the PvP server. That's how disgusting it was...

That is exactly how I remember it as well, the PVE only server what the largest under performer, and ArcheAge would be the same, largely boring without serious revamping to provide better PVE incentives.
Since Trion doesn't have a huge financial outlay to support this title, perhaps they won't feel the need to water it down to cater to everyone's tastes, but rather let it stay focused on its intended niche, a la EVE.

I'm still excited about this game with a lot of CAUTION.
Without anything to play right now ( since everything else is not much of an mmo ). I'm still keeping an eye on ArcheAge.
However in the last week we are having less and less posting, and many of the hype posters are now posting on other mmos.
I had been waiting for this game for over a year. When I finally said screw it and jumped into the Japanese version to get a taste of the game I found that it was great.
Then 1.0 came and now I couldn't care less about it. It was the first change to the game for the west and added F2P at the same time. I have zero confidence in the company and believe that each new patch is going to westernize it more and more alongside monetize it with more BS.
I had no issues at all with paying the sub, and for the Japanese version on top of it not knowing how to read katakana, yet there is no chance in hell I would pay that same amount for a sub in a F2P game that will also have a shop that gives even small advantages to those that spend money in a game built around PvP of all things.
It screams for abuse and with no idea what other changes the company is going to bring to the game I do not feel like investing more into a game that more than likely is going to be ruined.
The game is great, some of the people that come here to bash it clearly have not played it.
I do not want a game that makes everyone happy, I want a game that makes me happy.
If you do not like it go somewhere else and enjoy what ever game it is you like.
If you do not like any games find something you do like to do that will be a bit more satisfying in your life than bashing games you are not even going to play.
People who do not like the game bother me none, it is the people who say they like the game but then give a list of things they want changed that need to go:)

This game is bad bad bad I have not spent this type of time in a game since EQ/Daoc days.
The only reason I'm here posting is the server is down.

So again, what is the point other than to troll??
Scheduling my life around 20-25 other people for the slight chance of winning the item I want over everyone else while repeating the same content via raiding week after week to me is the true waste of time! I will farm all day long happily in comparison, at least I know what I will get out of it.
I cannot think of a bigger time waster than raiding in an MMO so I will argue that just about every feature AA has is a better use of time than just about any themepark/raiding game out there.
They could do a lot worse than 500K patrons.

Do you even pirate?
The game is great, some of the people that come here to bash it clearly have not played it.
I do not want a game that makes everyone happy, I want a game that makes me happy.
If you do not like it go somewhere else and enjoy what ever game it is you like.
If you do not like any games find something you do like to do that will be a bit more satisfying in your life than bashing games you are not even going to play.
People who do not like the game bother me none, it is the people who say they like the game but then give a list of things they want changed that need to go:)
