Holy cow, I have seen it all now. Ok maybe this isnt new but I have never actually looked into these things before. I went to Ebay because ya just cant play WoW on tuesdays. There are places that will "Play while you cant" to power level you characters. All ya have to do is buy the game, set up an account, start a character, then pay 360$+ (Depending on which service provider you use)
Only have to log in once and never have to play again and BOOM ya got a level 60 whatever ya want.
How do these people make money? Are there really people out there that would pay someone to play thier character FOR THEM?
Im getting too old for this crap..

Yea its very odd. I started playing online games (MUDs and Such) before EQ. Didnt play EQ but Did play DAoC as my first true MMORPG, played for about 2 years.
I just never heard of this before now. I was goofing off over on ebay looking around and saw these "Services". Just cant imagine why anyone would pay for other people to play thier characters.

Check out what you can buy on Ebay for Lineage 2. There's quite a market for on-line items for the larger games. I remember about a year ago, SWG jedi were selling for a few $1k.
It'll be interesting to see how SOE's decision on fascilitating sales will impact their player base. Hopefully SOE will be smart enough to be diligent to protect against large farming companies.

people are lazy by nature, it works both in game and out of game, why go out and farm herbs/veins if you can just buy them from the AH? Whey level if you can just pay to have someone else do it? Some people enjoy the grinding, and others just want to enjoy the end game, with no middle. I like the end game, rather than the middle - however I could not pay for someone else to do my work.
I am a raider at heart, but not lazy :P
I think it says something about the design of the game itself, in terms of fun. If leveling is so damn boring that people will pay 500 odd dollars for someone else to level their character, then maybe they should be playing a different game. Sure some people are just lazy, but I think most just don't want to have to deal with the xp grind to get to the fun bits at the end game.
I'd agree with you if it were individuals doing this, but these are pretty big companies, for the most part, like IGE/Yantis that have enough staff to man your character 24/7. One guy and a couple of his friends aren't going to be terribly effective by comparison.
So yeah, IGE posted profits somewhere in the millions last year. The ebayed items market is profitable enough that Sony is moving in to catch a slice of the pie even. And while I agree that the 'grind' in WoW isn't much of a grind, and is actually fun, these companies do it in other games, like EQ, where the grind was bad enough to make you want to lob you comp out the window.
And this doesn't even get into the stupidity of giving a total stranger your acct info, either. But like you said, there are alot of people with more money than brains. While it's great that they'll have a lvl X character, it's a shame, as they won't know how to play said character, and won't be getting very far with it, most likely.
