It finally happened to me.....

So i was thinking why after buying every single mmo that comes out, I still quit in the first month. It has kind of been bothering me, Eso and wildstar have been the last ones I bought. Eso I know it was because i am sick of fantasy, but with wildstar I could not put my finger on it. So i fired up my ps4 recently and have had a blast in killzone, and soloing mostly in warframe(lol i know). It finally hit me today while playing killzone, that I really just want to play sp games right now. At first I was thinking no way, I love mmos, but as the title says....I finally have become burnt out on all mmos. There is no doubt that I will always play mmos, but for now....my naga will be lonely  image

So I have a question, how many of you are sailing in the same boat as me?

I feel you but for me it's that I want a new style of MMO.  Wildstar was good but it features the same linear quest grind that's plagued the MMO for the last 8+ years.  I just want to play an MMO that features hidden secrets, immense depth and let me play the way I want to play.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

I don't know why this would surprise you.

SP games are more in depth and lack the jerks, bots, and cheats. The only thing that MMOs excel in (or should) is the social aspect and they don't do that well anymore.

You do realize immense depth only means "quest +1" and "hidden secrets" are what, items you can click on in the world with a big exclamation point?

Or do you want to have to click every inanimate object in the game world hoping that it's a secret that you want to uncover (no in-game modification or highlight it's a "usable object.") OR do you want devs to devote huge large areas in the game world for you to get stuck in a labyrinth only to have you find that cheeseburger at the end of it to reward you for accomplishing it?

You really seem to want a gold star. Wish I had workers like you at work. :/

MMO burnout happen to every mmo gamer (well, mostly) once in a while. I casually experienced that too. I usually finish my unfinished sp games or buy a game that I missed when it launched due to a mmo. I think it's just human nature.

Me personally. I played ESO & FFXIV and stopped within the month of it coming out. I've have a decent history of MMO gaming as well. The Highlights being Runescape from 2004-2011 and Wonderking and Wakfu.

I think some of us MMO gamers are actually ahead of the curve in wanting that "different" mmo.   Sandbox mmos in the way that players shape/create the world will probably be the next best thing and in my opinion will breath new life into mmos.  Where crafting is a crucial apart of the game as PvE and PvP.  And not crafting in the sense of gather mats make equips but gathing mats to build towns/cities/forts etc.

My Dream mmo would consist of:
    1. Open World PvE  -  Boss mob spawns, Boss mob is left alone for to long it will raid your town if not dealt with correctly
    2. Open World Pvp - I'm not a big fan myself but if done right this can a great thing.
    3. Player Generated - Everything in the game world is player generated. No NPCs
    4. Player Ran Economy - Set up correctly, and you can have "newbs" be the backbone of the game Ex: Farming low level mats.
    5. NO ENDGAME ORIENTED GARBAGE  -  sick of mmos where nothing matters besides the endgame.

I have different gaming moods and needs depending on the day.  Mostly MMOs for their big worlds, people to chat with, and lots to do.  But sometimes (especially after dealing with jerks) I feel the need to go offline and mess around in an RPG or strategy game or whatever else speaks to me.  Having grown up before the time when games were even considered to belong strictly to this genre or that I have a strong appreciation for games of (almost) all stripes.

I play ESO now, but I see what you are saying.  It isn't so much burn out.  It is I really don't like the way MMOs are currently designed.  Compared to a single player game MMOs have worse graphics and have worse gameplay.  The only place that they ever had anything over single player games is the community relying and competing with one another, and that has been dead for years due to the way games are made now.  You don't know who is who on your server.  Everything is built around a solo experience to quickly get you to "end game".  This destroys the one area that MMOs actually used to excel in and that is the multiplayer experience.  You used to have to depend on other players so there was an incentive to not be a douche.  That is gone now, and as a result of not having to depend on other players look at our current communities.  They are horrible with a few tiny islands of decent people hidden away in their guilds.
