Thanks to a string of successful LEGO video games and a hit LEGO Movie, LEGOs are once again a big part of mainstream culture. That means the time is right for an online LEGO game, and Funcom's seizing the opportunity. Launching this summer, LEGO Minifigures Online is currently in beta, and in its present state, though missing a good chunk of its final content is already more fun than a barrel of Minifigures.

Because this worked out sooooo good the last time...
This have been a good conversation
Ive had been having a blast in this beta. Unfortunately they are making the exact same mistake as Lego Universe made. Adding in the sub model is a HUGE no no for a childs game. If they just have to absolutely monetize some part of it, they should take lessons from Wizard101/Pirate101 and add in one time charges that will open up content permanently. Maybe something like 10 bucks for all the pocket advetnures in one themed world or something.
Honestly the sub model will be the doom of this game. LU had way more to offer, with the player housing system and the pet systems. And it still failed and got shut down. This game could really use something like the housing system to help warrant the cost of it.
In the end, Funcom should know better. If they cant win with a sub model in MMO like AoC and TSW, what in the world possessed them to think they could charge it in a Lego game? Completely baffles the mind. Someone will most likely be fired over this decision before too long.
Yep, and not just the article says it, it was stated right from the start... it will be f2p.
With a cash shop.
And an optional monthly fee for bonuses and perks and discount from the cash shop.
And the (also optional) physical minifig purchases.
And the... wait, I think that's all. At least for now
(edit: just for the record, I really like FC and their games, probably I'll dabble with this one too, but I'm not exactly a Lego fan - nicely put. That's why the bit sarcastic part above... )
The ironic part here is that Lego Universe had become a really good game by the time they closed it down. They game was never the issue. The payment model was.
For sure, that was probably the best game LEGO is ever going to have put out. Hell, they could have made it a success if they re-released with a different payment structure, or if they'd gone with a better one in the first place.
Both Wizard101 and Pirate101 is subscription based games, only a very small part of the game is open for those without an account..
