Paying real $$(you can attain with ingame currency) to get a class in a game with no competition isn't really p2w or whale. I've spent more than you have solely on stash space.
Also if Iron Man seems OP to you, you're doing everything wrong.
I just spent $30 on Marvel Heroes getting the 4 heroes pack with some shelf space. I guess since Iron Man is OP ... some here will say that is p2w. Well, i don't pvp (certainly not in that game) so I guess i just have to "win" but having lots of fun.
But heck .. it surely is fun ... and becoming a whale (guess $30 is not a huge whale, but more than those $0 free players) does not feel too bad. And certainly mowing down hordes and hordes of mobs with missiles and repulsors is fun. Wish they have a little more polish like D3, but hey .... I can't play Iron Man (or Cap America, or the Hulk) on any blizz games.
In Marvel Heroes terms you are not a whale more like a goldfish. You can spend a ton more in that game very easily. Still the heroes packs are nice for what they give. They where even better prelaunch when you got cash shop currency with the purchase but that deal is long gone.
I don't consider Marvel Heroes P2W in any form. You will get enough splinter shards the first time you defeat Dr. Doom to buy any hero you want so your not really stuck with one of the starter toons that long in the grand scheme of things, it's only if you want to start to expand your collection and play a bunch of characters or get costumes and such that things really start to add up or potions. Run full XP and loot bonus potions all the time can get very expensive I imagine but even than I really don't see the P2W part.
Hahah, I got the p2w sarcasm. I also got a huge kick that you spent $30 on an mmo.
I'm still trying to decide what hero pack I want. I already have Wolverine (got it from a free code) and so I am having a hard time deciding on what hero pack would fit. He's in a lot of them already. I want Ms. Marvel and I'm not sure exactly who else. So many good heroes.
I bought the Avengers Assemble pack before launch. Iron Man, Ms. Marvel and Hulk (have not really played Cap yet) are all pretty fun toons IMO and play different enough from each other to keep it interesting.
It amazes me that ive never heard of this game before and I already know that it's stupid. And $30 used be a regular monthly MMO sub fee, so I dont see whales here
The definitions for minnow, dolphin and whale can differ. This Kickstarter model is a bit ... well .. let's say optimistic or simply is not in line with to be expected revenues in an online game. Also, there exists another level. Freeloaders.
And last but not least. When analyzing revenues you always consider the factor "time". At month 1 of his purchase, the TA is a whale. At month 2, if he does not repeat his purchase, he ranges within the dolphin stage, and so on.
Suggestion:
Pretending to be the revenue wisenhimer of this board by linking potentially copyrighted infographics whilst insulting a member of this community (calling the TA a nub) is not the smartest idea. It shows that you are a) a troll and b) actually have no clue.

What I find interesting about that graphs isn't the numbers or percentages but the very last line "Facilities Dolphins and Whales". I think "freeloaders" as you call them would also fit into that description as that's really the only value Developers see in those kinds of players.
Basically if you are a minnow or a "freeloader" your only value to the game in the eyes of the developers (you know the ones creating the systems and content you play) is to provide fodder for the bigger spenders be it PVP or just having people around them (I.E. unwashed masses to admire there stuff). Enjoy your "Free" games.

Didn't you have 12k posts just last year? You post at least 50 times a day, by my observation.
Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon. In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit
Not to be disrespectful, but that is still a lot of posts. You do seem to spend much of your time here on mmorpg.com.
Ironically, he spends most of that time telling everyone how bad MMO's are and how he wants them all to become single player games.
nah .... i don't want them to become SP games. I like them more if they become SP games. There is a difference. The difference is that I have enough SP games to play ... some MMO similar to SP games is just gravy. If they all disappear tomorrow, i doubt i will notice.

Unfortunately, few here got the sarcasm (the p2w one, also the whale one). But hey, didn't everyone say that most MMO players (except you of course) want easy mode & no thinking?
How did you get the Wolverine free code? I wonder if it is still active. The game is a good change from D3, and I like marvel, so it is natural. I suppose it is no different than throwing $40 (for me) for RoS.
I do like Cap .. but that is probably more the marvel character than the game mechanics. I also play the free Dare Devil for quite a while (it was one of the starting character when the game was released although it costs now).
So far, for the ones I have seriously played, i like IM > Cap > dare devil in terms of the combat mechanics. IM is really the range guy that rains fire down ... not very different from a mage in a fantasy setting.
I got the wolverine code here. It was a give away. I got lucky because the codes went really fast. It must be a very popular game.
I am still leveling Storm. I like her aoe and control skills.
Sigh .. wish i get a wolverine too. But i do have enough characters to play for a while. I also got emma frost, jean grey and a few others by the splinter random hero unlock.
The funny thing is that all the random ones are female ... what is the odds of that?

Marvel Heroes is classified as a MMO ... so obviously yes. Didn't I just spend money on it? If so, don't you think at least I will play a little?
You just answered the question yourself.
