Best Gritty Fantasy Novels?

Im just about finished with Glen Cook's "The Black Company", and holy shit what a ride. I dont know if this was Cook's first full length novel, but while reading it I got this feeling like he started out very amateur - a really loose style of writing, and then tightened it up so much by the end that it becomes a masterpiece. 

 

Once I reached the chapter "Harden" I knew it was easily one of my favorite fantasy books of all time. 

 

Anyone else got any good Fantasy novels with some, with some GRIT?!

 

I also enjoyed Jack Vance's - Eyes of the Overworld!
