"I paid for beta and I'm disappointed that I don't get to play right now."

Anytime these types of threads are stumbled upon just remember this is what the person is really saying and feeling deep down.

"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"

     Losing money?

They just stole 2.4 million banning 16k accounts @$150 each not exactly losing money the way I see it.

None of those accounts were paid for. They were fraudulent ones but you probably already knew that.

Was trying to make a point that if they banned 16k accounts how many did they sell they did not ban.

WAY more than 2.4 million worth.

As much as I am not a huge fan of how Trion are going about things, to be fair.

The translation is into THREE languages, not one.

There also needs to be testing of the in game store before launch, if I was doing it it'd be during alpha

They are also frantically chasing their tails against gold spammers and bots

However, my fishing is now nearly at 10k, so all is well

I really don't understand some peoples rational about them postponing the games beta phase.  They haven't done anything wrong at all.  People paid 150 to get into an alpha and those people are playing the game.  There is no way I would ever pay to play a beta but trion has done nothing unscrupulous at all.

Wouldn't people want something released in good fashion, without a ton of things that need patching the first day a game launches.  I myself probably want play this but I played rift for a long time and can tell you trion is a good company.  They update and release patches pretty frequently.

But I guess the big thing is the people that want to play for free.  I stay away from F2P most of the time myself because of the hidden pay walls.  Someday people will figure out that having cash shops over time destroys most games.  But to each his own, I want condemn anyone for there own personal beliefs.

Please be clever guys. Alpha access cost 150 bucks and maybe one of 100 players will buy it. Sub will be around 15 bucks and how many guys do you think will buy it? I think around 50%. So alpha = 150bucks/100ppl and released game = 750bucks/100ppl.

They are losing money when they are in alpha!! They want to make a complete game

The Trion people have recently spent a week in Korea thrashing out the changes needed and XL Games and Trion between them are now implementing the first stages, which will be coming to alpha next week. Further changes will be coming in another patch soon after and everything has to be tested on the alpha server before being ready to advance to the beta testing stage. That's probably going to delay the start of beta by a month or so, that's all.

People who say it's not a true alpha because the game is already released in Korea are just talking out of their backsides. The language has had to be translated not just to one language but three. That's English, French and German. That's not all though, many aspects of the game as released in Korea wouldn't appeal to a western audience so many core features have had to be adjusted and tested. The whole thing has also had to be integrated with Trion's account system, the Glyph launcher, which itself is in beta and of course their in-game cash shop, which will not be identical to the Asian one.

The latest thing that Trion has had to work into the game is a way to battle the massive recent onslaught of botters and gold sellers too. New game management tools are being introduced to testing next week.

I paid my $150 and I'm very happy with the way things have been progressing. I'd prefer they take their time and make sure the game is running as optimised as possible rather than rush it onto the market, incomplete and buggy like so many other games have been.

I'm sure all this is true.  This is what's happening in the backround.

But every mmo and every video game ever made has hoops that have to over come....THE DIFFRINCE BEING $150...THIS SHOWS GREED!!!!!!

    Examples :

    - 9 Dragons

    - Age of Wushu

    - Allods Online

    - Adventurequest worlds

    - Aika

    - Alganon

I could list 200 more, but that only covers a few under " A " on the list !

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHATS THE DIFFRINACE between ArchAge and all the others ?

How is Trion losing money?  They are charging money to test the game.  Seriously.  I'm curious.

Umm the launch of ArcheAge is going to bring in more money in the first day than all of Alpha months combined by many times.

Are you seriously asking how a couple of alpha servers can compete with a full blown scale launch (with working cash shop mind you)?

    Night and day.

Not sure if your question was serious.

Limiting the game to a couple of alpha servers with a fixed $150 fee vs F2P launch with many servers....

Perhaps they will make more money when they release the game, but I doubt they are losing money on the current early-access.

It takes one to know one.

There are also people buying the early acces package.
Wich is only good as Trion becomes more confident that Archeage is quite a nice mmo that has a good place in the market.

It just amazes me that people spit in Trions direction for selling those package's as every studio is doing it these days.
Just look around and see SoE selling Landmark and that new zombi survival game.
Its just the way it is as it generates a good chunk of income prelaunch.

In the end we get to play it and it had tons of more testers who might have reported bugs and exploits.
So for me its a win/win kind of deal.

Trion is doing a fantastic job and Scapes is one hell of a community manager for Trion Archeage.

It's all a matter of timing.  Think carefully, what just released in the past 3-4 months, ESO and Wildstar, two AAA games that are garnering lots of attention right now. (and let's not forget the renewed interest in FFXIV due to the console launch.)

Would be foolish for them to release it now, too much competition, better to look for a more quiet time, like say, September, when not much is on the horizon and people will have started to burn out on the other releases.

I do applaud TRION for allowing me to play AA early. I've been waiting over a year to play this game. I was excited to be able to play knowing full well it wasn't going to be the final version and that I would be starting all over again when it goes live.

TRION didn't HAVE to let me pay them to play early, but they did. So kudos to them. Some companys don't let you pay them to play early. Bummer for them.

I don't see them releasing the game in July (although it could be the earliest month of making the announcement). You make a good point with those 3 MMORPGs but we also have Warlords of Draenor coming up in December right? I don't think any western MMO company (publisher or developer) is going to want to release their game around Blizzard's expansion. So I'm guessing November, December, and January are out of the question.

It seems TRION has a small window of opportunity left for this year; August, September, and October if they want to push it that far. If they don't make an announcement in the next 2 months as far as beta and release goes, will they just wait till next year or release near Blizzard's upcoming expansion?

seriously, they went beta in asia... and then retail.

THEN they sold the bera to russians, and went retail again.

NOW they go beta in EU/US and sell it to you guys, you buy it, and actually await anything at all?

3 sold betas. and for what? for money, exactly. that's something you do when you know your product won't stand in it's final version.

90%+ of alpha players have already paid the $150.

Sooooo, aren't alpha players the one's milking Trion for free extra weeks?

No matter how long they delay the launch, like everything coming from Trion the game will inevitably tank.

You could say that when the alpha players would be able to influence how long the early access period will last, but they cannot. They have no say in anything Trion or XL Games does.

That would be sad if the game is fun to play. As soon as the game will be actually released I am certain I will try it out and find out for myself.

If that's the reason, it is indeed bullshit. Translating 70k words would amount to about 175-233 pages (taken from a translating firms website: they count about 300-400 words per A4 size page).

That's a lot for one guy, but still doable if it's a dayjob. With an entire team it should take only a week max.

I would still like to know why we have 200 other Asian F2P games on the list and none of them needed $150 to start it. And why they didn't advertise a year in advance while they translate ?

If you would like I'll list 200 examples, but all you would have to do is click on game list on the top left !!!!

    Localisation time:

    1. 1 week to translate
    2. 1 week to implement the text in game
    3. 2 weeks to QA the implementation for developer mistakes
    4. 1 week to fix those mistakes
    5. 2 weeks for localisation QA
    6. 1 week to translate fixes
    7. 1 week to implement fixes
    8. 1 week to QA fixes
    10 weeks.

QA time could be quicker with more testers, but I doubt they will have many working on it at either XL Games or Trion.
