ArcheAge Update/Patcher problems

Hi all,

I configured and used a VPN to make an account on the ArcheAge JP website, then I downloaded the Pmang programs and initiate the ArcheAge game via the website's big, green 'Play' button.

The splash screens come up and eventually the game gets to the patcher screen where it begins patching (in a stopey-startey kind of way, with DL rate fluctuating between 0.04Mbps and 1.50Mbps) however, periodically the patch progress resets back to zero percent and the download starts all over again! Also, I cannot close the patcher without losing all my download progress.

I assume this isn't a problem specific to the JP version of the game. How do I prevent the patcher from resetting to 0% completion every time the download stalls for more than 10 seconds? Surely there's a setting file somewhere where I can remove the progress reset? Also, why doesn't the patcher save the DL progress? Why must it start from 0% every time?

 

Any ideas how to fix this?

Each region has a different patcher because each publisher has a different way of distributing the patches. Also CDNs vary per publisher too.

Example Trion uses their own Glyph platform to authenticate and patch the game. For the actual patch delivery I think they use Akamai and Edgecast (would have to check the patch IPs in wireshark again to confirm).

XL doesnt provide the patcher, each publisher has to use their own.

 

Im new to MMO parlance.  What is a CDN? What does it do?
