So I did the new Frontline battleground the other day. If you ever played Arathi Basic in WoW, its like that. Except the map is about as big as Alterac Valley, and its 3 teams of 24 going against each other. Fist faction to reach 1600 resources wins. There are various mobs that spawn and must be defeated in order to secure certain chokepoints which adds a little wrinkle. All in all, its a pretty fun battleground and it satisfies a casual PvP itch that I feel from time to time.
That being said, first thing I noticed was that I had completely forgotten my abilities and what my hotkeys were lol. Then I realized that I had not done any actual combat in this game for close to three months. That is a testament to how good the non combat activities are in this game. Up until the other day, I had done nothing but gather, craft, tend gardens, train chocobos, work on my house, outfit my retainers and play the market.
Most games have side activities besides combat. But the ones in FFXIV are so fleshed out and complete, you can easily be overwhelmed with meaningful things to do without ever having to pick up a weapon or do a quest. I log on and I have about a dozen activities that I find rewarding and worthwhile and none of them involve a dungeon or raid, or quest, or instance or killing of any kind.
Really is a quality mmo.

Yesterday's patch immediately addressed the biggest issue people were having with frontlines. They would wait for a long time for the queue to pop, only to see people withdraw from the queue, causing frustration.
As of this morning, ifyou queue to Frontlines, it will automatically port you to the fight, even if the teams are still longing for more members. This is especially more effective if you click to join "In progress" matches as well.
You can potentially get into a Frontlines match with 2 minutes left, get a win. Or join a game where you lose, but still get xp, myth/soldiery tomes for 5 minutes of work.
I will be Frontlining it up this weekend for sure!
Frontlines has been fun so far, apart from the queue issues which should have been resolved this morning. I've been queuing up with people from my raid group that are in the same GC and communicating (i.e., strategizing and shit talking) over VOIP during the battles.
I'm not really much of a PvPer so it's probably only something I'm going to do until I cap my Soldiery for the week, but they definitely implemented a fun PvP system that people that normally wouldn't be interested in PvP would be willing to pick it up.
I started frontlines and right now leading premade team, our success rate today is 92%, it is really enjoyable as group pvp. I am sure once people figure out what they are doing it will get competitive more, but right now we only managed to have close fight in 3 matches where there were another premade teams that knew what they are doing.
anyways for hints on frontmarks , first I begin with PvP Skills:
* you have access to 5 PvP skills that are off GCD, go to action and traits menu and equip them in your hotbar. Also make sure to know what they are and when to use them. the best to do with DMG skills is weaving them with a GCD dmg skills for most dmg.
* once you level up you get PvP points, those points you can use on your pvp skills and remember that you DO NOT have to go on first tier of improving the skill , you can immediatl choose tier III. each improvment cost 4 points. improvment usually is increase damage/ increase duration / shorten cast time etc.
* the Mobs spawn based on points and not on time. use that for your advantage.
