Greed Monger, Jason Appleton, Scam

-Just making sure google has some nice Keywords to pick up.

James, where are ya buddy? The only time you seem to comment on anything is when someone on another site (like Steam or mmorpg.com) calls you out of your hole.

Wheres the game man? WHeres the update? Your companys main website claims Alpha should have been out and playable by your backers in Ma y 2013. http://electriccrow.com/?p=25 Jason Appleton hasnt even updated the "Electric Crow" main site ino over a year and it still has bad information (sounds like hes pretty serious about this gaming business, huh?)

Wheres the T-Shirts your backers were promised in the Kickstart? Still in appletons garage 2+ years later (..hes a busy boy selling ecigs now and no longer has time...)

Wheres the communication? You guys are awol...Jason Appleton was everywhere when he was trying to get everyones money for this scam and now he is mysteriously absent for well over a year (other than to pop into a thread from long ago about people wanting there T-Shirts to give the most ignorant excuse ive ever heard- "I'm busy, will send them when I can but its going to be slow going"...Yeah , over  a year late.

The internet never forgets James P and Jason Appleton... Eery 3 months (or sso) I make another greed monger thread and every 3 months nothing is updated, nothing is new and all James P can say is "The game isnt a scam:

I hope you and Appleton are sued. I hate the court system and hate (usually) when someone is sued- But Appleton is a straight up scammer , snake oil salesmen and con artist... He wanted to use backers money to "sue" someone on the Wurm Forum for telling the truth about this game- Now its time to see the valid lawsuits start pouring in where they are deserved.

-I know you will pop in here (James) to say "Greed monger isnt a scam"- LOL... I will make another thread in 3 more months and we will see where your at then ...Spoiler: The same spot you are now and the same spot you were at a year ago.

It may never forget, but it certainly doesn't learn, as the one thing you can bank on from the MMO gaming community is that they will consistently repeat mistakes of the past.

Just had to see the way this guy responded to posts on these forums to know that this game was going to end badly... it would seem that "Greedmonger" is aptly titled.

even if it doesnt deliver, it doesnt mean that it is a scam.

a scam is taking money with the purpose of never delivering. I believe he wants/wanted to deliver, but he isnt able to, because its just not that easy, as he was thinking.

so i would call him an idiot or whatever, but not a scammer.

and to those people who backed it: your fault, not his!

Sadly, there is Wisdom in what you say. =(

-To mistmaker- I agree with you as well, people need to take responsibility here (I wasnt a backer BTW) but following this entire drama- It looks like a blatant scam (intentional) to me. Appleton took the money, moved to new house and wont even deliver the T-Shirt backer rewards (hes busy)- The second the check cleared he has been awol until one post recently about the T-Shirts.

Appleton is now selling ecigs online to add to his other "ventures"

-He needs to own up to this too-

Also, he reason I make another "Greed Monger- Whats happening" thread every few months is to highlight problems with hype and crowdfunding. Read the old threads, read the official forum, read the Kickstart comments and piece it all together to see that this is a cycle (just an extreme example) and people really need to start thinking.

We are creating this mess for ourselves- But that still doesnt excuse the scammers.

I should feel sorry for everyone who backed Greed Monger, but it was so obvious that it was all a big pile of nothing that it's not even funny...

Who are they and why should i care..?

I get they are some crowdfunded... game i guess... that flubbed.

That is the problem with donations... you never know what they end up doing in the end.

This have been a good conversation

Some of those people are in it for 2- $3000 ...

Man, I was looking at the Kickstart comments and that dude is so slimey- He was upselling his "Castles" and going into great detail about how you "Are going to be treated like kings and queens" and still going on about how they will be playing (Alpha) in a few short months.

As has been pointed out " A fool and his money..." and all that. But I agree, its sad.

That dude is slime. Thats why the internet cannot forget this. Jason Appleton will be selling "Weight loss" pills or "Cancer Curing herbs" down the line and people need to have a record of what happened when he took nearly 100K to make a game. He bought a new house and went AWOL.

Plus they are still taking money and selling this on their forum/website. Last month someone was asking how to buy land and they were pointed to a place to give "Electric Crow" more money. Comments were deleted that tried to warn the 'victim'.

And that is not all, they are trying to scam more people. Have a look:

Watch out or he will throw a hissy fit and threaten to sue you for talking bad about his vaporware! Hes done it before folks. lol

  • mistmakermistmaker Member UncommonPosts: 321

he seems to be a very naiv guy himself. dont think he is a scammer he is just incapable.

but perhaps he is selling ecigs to get money to "finish" his mmorpg?

i cant believe people spent thousands of dollars?! i mean, i would spend 50 or 100 because, thats the same as going out nd drinking one night, but thousands?! either stupid or rich...

Twice that I am aware of...

Once on the WURM Forum where he said he would use Backers Kickstart money to sue (remember that) and once to a member here who pointed out a ton of stuff about Jason Appleton while the Kickstart was going on (if I remember correct)-

  • tawesstawess Member EpicPosts: 4,227

well going by the site it does not seem to be going very well at all now does it.

I do like this bit from the KS....

"Our expectations for being able to crank out an amazing MMO in a matter of 6 months was laughably inaccurate, and to do everything for $100,000? Even more laughable."

Sounds like a guy with his feet on the ground.... *shakes head*

I was not aware of this so I am glad I caught your 3 month post :)

Man I love Unity 3D but I am so scared of it. Game engines like Unity are so powerful for beginners that many scammers could easily pick it up and sell an idea to be backed. I mean look at what I did in couple hours in Unity 3D.  I mean its not great but if I spent some more time on it I could sell it as an environmental screen just like I see on that dated Greedmonger Website.

how much money did they get??
  • gorro187gorro187 Member UncommonPosts: 234
If he never has delivered on any of the goods promised. Then I could see him getting some jail time. People can say hes having a hard time getting something together. But its been over a year+ since anything. He hasn't even sent out the t shirts or other physical stuff. yet he has the money.
