Worth Coming Back?

EhliyaEhliya Member UncommonPosts: 223

I subscribed to ESO at release, but left after few weeks.  One reason was that it was literally overrun with bots and gold sellers. Second, public dungeons didn't seem to work well....you would get this quest and big build up to fight a boss, only to get there and see a line of people circling around waiting to kill it.  Third, it also seemed too much like a single player game, and after GW2 I didn't want to go down that road again.  Finally, PVP seemed broken as I watched YouTube videos of a single Vampire killing dozens single-handed.

How are things now?  Especially on the above concerns.  Thanks in advance...

You'd do well not to listen to the other poster.. obviously he is just hating.  With nothing to back up that hate.  I'm sure him and his only 2 friends are doing a circle jerk to Wildstar every night... anyway...  to answer your question: yes.. it's worth coming back if the above reasons were your only ones for leaving.

Bots and gold spammers are virtually nonexistent.

Public dungeons are much better.. at least for the later levels.  Not sure about the early ones.  Most of the lines you saw were bots and since they cleared up.. public dungeons are much more enjoyable to run.

Still can feel like a single player game.  I think that's kind of intentional though.  There are a lot of people that want to solo PVE.  However, they are working on the phasing issues that can separate players that want to run stuff together.  That's still an issue occasionally.  But, I don't have too many issues running dungeons with other players.

PVP is a lot better.  Still some minor balancing issues for stamina builds but much more balanced.  Frames per second issue is fixed.  The whole vampire thing is balanced.  I don't run into too many on Wabbajack.

They have a ton of great new features coming too. See: http://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/2b3ca4/news_quakecon_the_future_of_eso_panel_notes/

I haven't played in a few weeks.  Mainly because my wife wanted to do a month or two run through WoW lol. Anyways, glad to hear about a lot of these issues.  I did see a few of these before I went AWOL for a bit.  I'm also excited about the Justice system.  I bet this mmo will be a great mmo after about a year or maybe by the first expac.  A lot of mmos were ok at launch (not my opinion, just talking about the haters) but later really improved the overall mmo.

Everything the OP mentioned seemed to be about bots, they have gone. But don't come back to a game when you were prepared to jump ship so soon. Give it till next year, more changes and more likely you will enjoy it more and stay longer.

How easy/hard is it to get groups for the Craglorn stuff?

  • DeddmeatDeddmeat Member UncommonPosts: 387

The bots were crazy mad when I was playing and it drove me nuts .. I think I'll give it another try and start a new NB and see what it's like. At most I'll have lost £9

Just got a £15 time code for 2 months so that should get me a decent look at the game, at my pace probably 1 month to choose race, area to start and the other month farting around in the starter isle lol

Thanks.  I think I will wait a bit more and see where they plan to take the game.  In many ways it is a beautiful game.

I'm waiting for the magic patch that makes me go "wow" and jump in playing again.
  • ScotScot Member LegendaryPosts: 24,429
You will get a big content patch down the line, but that may only be for top end users again like Craglorn. I can see them adding different gameplay for the lower levels, but everyone does that and it can be unbalancing. So for me solid development rather than 'wow' is the answer to any MMO going forward.

I hope you enjoy your time in game!!  It's a great MMO.  It also has fixed a majority of the issues it had at launch.  Such as the bots you were speaking of.  I think you'll be surprised.

Public dungeons are a bit better. You don't really see that many bots anymore. Some of them can still be crowded a little by other players, but it's not nearly as rampant as it was at launch.

About the single-player game aspect, that much hasn't really changed. You can play with others if you want, but if you wanna do most of the questing content, the phasing is still a problem. They've mentioned attempts to try and fix that, but at the moment it's still an issue.

Vampires have been nerfed a bit. They probably still need to be nerfed, but they aren't as broken as they were in PvP.

Other than that, the game really hasn't changed much. They are clearly trying to improve it, but it's debatable whether the direction their headed is a good or a bad one. Some may like it, others will hate it.

Hopefully that's enough info to help inform your decision.

This is actually really good advice ^

A lot of these games do make an impression amount of changes / fixes / improvements to their games over time. The problem is, most people experience them one small bite at a time, so they always feel insignificant. But, if you stop and come back later, it's much easier to see that, wow they really have added a lot to the game. And ESO in particular has a lot planned, based on their pannel from this recent quake-con.

Depends on which 'stuff' you're talking about.

Most people are doing grind groups for Craglorn. There's numerous farming spots that help get you from VR1-12 fairly quick, and people are exploiting the crap outa them because they're trying of the VR grind.

For normal content, it's a bit harder. It's not due to a lack of people, though, it's just that most people are busy grinding. For the quests / dungeons / trials / etc. you will probably need to find a guild or socialize a bit to find others who are equally interested in that part of the content. A lot of people atm are just kinda rushing VR to get to 'endgame' and the PvP.

I dont understand this logic that has been witnessed before by others.

The game is good now, but it will be even better in 6+ months so come then.

Just that most content will be for 50+ people that will also benefit from Champion system passives. Not to mention you could actually have fun playing the game during those 6 months.

Also the game will change and players that do play during that period will be more skilled, so in PVP and PVE you will be left behind. In terms of skill.

Its like saying sex is great. But do it now. Do it in six months. You will have even MORE fun then ...

If you can afford the game buy it and try it.

    If you cant ( and I can relate ) , don`t.

I also subbed and stopped after a view weeks.

eso is the last mmo that took me for a ride,i skipped now wildstar and going to skip destiny.

even when eso goes free I will not play again, everything in the game stays the same and feels a bit bland.

  • CandyCaneNJCandyCaneNJ Member UncommonPosts: 187

I had the beta version but bought the imperial version. I realized the game was in disaster mode, requested a full refund and a week later got one to my CC.

I would definitely try it for a month with all the great sounding features but if it feels boring and bland again, I will leave it.

  • bleakravenbleakraven Member UncommonPosts: 25

It's doing much better. I haven't seen botters and boss farmers for ages. I can actually go inside a dungeon and find max 2-4 other people in there, which always leads to grouping or at least working/progressing together.

Many quests and phasing issues were fixed, after the first month, I never lost sight of my friend again due to phasing.

Cyrodiil sometimes still has quite some lag, but it's because of a new strategy(verging on exploit) that players are using now, where an entire army stacks itself in place and spams AoE (because if you AoE them, AoE is capped for a certain number of max targets; if you try targetting a specific player in the "blob", well.... good luck with that).

Otherwise, it's quite stable and much more content is incoming, such as armour dyes and guild emblems. I hope they add even more customization options in the future (more hairstyles or appearance change NPC).

I can recommend returning to ESO, most haters and people whose playstyle did not match that of the game have left, which leaves the community a friendlier place, full of ES fans. :)

Well the bot problem seems to have gone but that isn't a surprise as when Wildstar launched they went to that en masse .. The GM's on support are not as helpful though.

When I got the game I got almost immediate reply and problem solved (I'd deleted toon with all bonus content) and now I got a time code my forum account no longer works and they seem to be stuck on sorting it out, then when I try logging in via iPad it tells me the password is incorrect but it's the one I was using and if they changed it they haven't bothered telling me.

And they have put in that useless 3 deletions in 24 hours seeing as the bots will have moved to WS then AA etc anyway leaving ESO with a much smaller problem. Requesting a GM to either alter a name or delete a character as you want yo use the band again gets 'wait 24 hours' when due to hit weather I couldn't play more than 5 minutes yesterday and don't think I deleted once today.

So politely replied that due to loosing 24 hours every time that happened, thanks for letting me not to get another time code.

I like to use the same name for my character and can easily change my mind over three times and end up right back on the sane class as I started with. I don't mind taking up a character space waiting for the delete space, just wanted the damn name which isn't hard for them to do.

i am currently watching the Future of ESO panel that Zenimax did on QuakeCon not too long ago. I stopped playing the game after the free month ended and ive been waiting for the game to be fixed. Based on their panel, there are still broken things that i wanted fixed so once they fix them (plus all the new stuff that will be added) i can say i am definitelly resubscribing.

It is good to see ZoS not only adding new features, but fixing the existing broken ones.

Have they moved the EU server center to Europe yet? That's pretty much the only thing that kept me from renewing my sub, although getting my NB ass kicked in VR4 and then watching templars and DKs moonwalk through and defeat everything in a moment was a close second.

To OP: Bots and crowds in delves (public dungeons are a separate thing from delves) was a problem that was outleveled fairly quickly, even at release. They became scarcer in the 30s and unheard of in VR, as far as my experience with them went.

  • EhllfhireEhllfhire Member UncommonPosts: 633
No its not worth coming back, especially since there wasnt enough wrong to quit.

Any graphical, audio, or gameplay restrictions not seen in other mmos but found in FFXIV can be blamed on one thing.
