It gives tokens which can spend on items to upgrade items you get with another token to gear equal to Coil (The top tier raid).

Weapon wise you have to beat the hardest boss to get the best weapon.

Yes, but also through PvP (Frontlines), treasure maps, and ranked hunt mobs. So while it may seem like a huge grind at first, the game really does give you many options.
