F2P with no Cash Shop? how?

TweFojuTweFoju Member UncommonPosts: 1,236

First of all, do not get me wrong, i am stoked to see that they offer no cash shop in a FFA loot MMO genre, which is awesome, and what most people wanted anyway,

but let's talk realistic, the main source for any f2p MMO is the item mall / cash shop / whatever that makes them money, that is inevitable, i can't see it any other way to make money to keep your game running, unless they are using the B2P system, even a game like GW2 still needs the Black Trading to generate income

so my question is, unless this company does not need money to keep them working or maintaining their game, do you think that this game will last without any sort of income from the players?

So What Now?

But they will have a cash shop...

Vanity items in which players can sell to other players.

i am pretty sure they said there would be no cash shop whatsoever,

anyway, after much research, i found out that you can buy gold ( just like Plex in EvE ) and trade it with silver (ISK) and then use the silver to buy whatever you want that the in game npc sells,

but again, isnt that the same thing? that is technically a cash shop

    So What Now?

Not to side rail your thread, but do you think this game will make it anyway? I haven't been keeping up but watched the video on the website, and one of the developers stated that you wouldn't be able to make it in game without teamwork. This is all fine and good if they have a system that allows casuals to come home from work, sit down, and find a simple way to join in a group to complete quests, but  in this day and age no one takes the time to gather groups anymore. Everyone wants to plow through content and get to the end. I truly hope the game makes it, but I don't see how it will with a "required" group system.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

To be honest, i cant answer you question as i havent play this game myself or even tried the Beta yet, so i am not sure how hard it is to play Solo and when with a group, but from what i gather so far, this game is about territory claiming and GvG and AvA, so in a sense, i think yes it would be hard to play alone since most people will be with a guild or alliance as it is the main point of the game, which is to claim territory and questing to gather materials to build your city and houses, the dev said that even if you are a high end player, you will still get killed by 10 new players with crappy armour, so i think its up to you to play solo or group,

as of whether they will make it or not, i certainly believe they will, just by looking at the state of the game right now, and that they are in fact still in Alpha, i think the game looks great and the mechanical, design, and gameplay is great! with more players playing during the release, i think it will be super fun! keep this game in your list :)

Hey there, just to weigh in on this conversation about the economy of Albion Online:

Our currency system will be a bit similar (not equal) to EVE Online, just without the subscription. We as a company will not sell any items to players. All items are crafted by and bartered between players.

Other than vanity items, which have no influence on stats or spells, they just look good,  and which you can buy for real world currency, there will be the possibility for a premium account which will give you some indirect advantages such as being able to carry 10% more, harvest 10% faster etc.

Overall these are just current assumptions as we've not had much experience with the premium currency in our game so far due to it being in alpha. So nothing is set in stone yet. I can just say that we pretty much like the EVE system a lot!

To assuage your fears of soloplayers being lost in Albion Online I would say that, although the game certainly is best enjoyed in a guild or with a group of other players, we are still considering soloplayers, and will add mechanics in the future which appeal to them and make being part of a guild more optional.

We are already planning to have a comprehensive mercenary system to allow players to function within guilds without officially being part of them, and we want to make this play style an attractive option, though it will doubtlessly prove more of a challenge to players (though that's better for some!).

More mechanics for solo players are in the pipeline, and will be a topic for future discussion, but rest assured we are considering them!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Look forward to helping along as a founder in the middle of this month.

P.S. Please dont carebear this game, reason I personally like it is because of the die and lose all your stuff UO fellucia style.
