Kind of what I was thinking. Then again, I have no issues with more choices in mmos. If there is a group of people who will enjoy the game, I'm happy for them.

In my opinion they are a little better than early EQ 1, the landscapes at least. They do the job. I'd rather play this because it is new and far more interesting than EQ 1, which is extremely top heavy and instanced now (as well as being 15+ years old). EQ 1 is a different game than what it was at the start. This game has absolutely no instances. I love this.
Plus in this game anyone can kill anyone above level 7. We'll see how that plays out, could be great or could be too much griefing, hard to tell yet. Point is, I think this is a game early MMO players, that liked how the games were back then, might really enjoy. It has some improvements over the early games however. But it needs some time to mature as well, it is at the very beginning of its life right now.
Thanks for this. Will check it out, really looks like EQ. I don't care what it costs, i don't care if it is AAA or not. If it plays like EQ with fresh grafics i am sold.
MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.
Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?

It is similar for sure. A player in game says that it has an EQ 1 feel with some WoW questing thrown in and fast PvP like DAoC. I can't confirm the last one because I never played DAoC. The questing is WoWish but I do more exploring and PvE trying to get rare drops than quest. Or I just chat it up with other players.
The quests are very generic so far. Kill X amount of this, collect X amount of that, kill X mob.... if they would add some arching quests eventually it would be nice.
I DO like that their are rare spawns that pop and events, Also that it doesn't hand hold you with map GPS to everything. You have to explore to find some of the quest targets.
Anyone that is currently playing it know if their is an in-game tab to give feedback? Haven't played it very long to locate one if so.
I'm thinking of downloading it! How is the population and what server are you on?
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Hey Amjoco,
The population is really small but starting to pick up. I think the "Moon" PvP server is the only one available at the moment and that is where we are all at. Just beware the trial is really short (one day) so make sure you get a feel for the game before the time is up. Mine ran out and I was only level 2 so I took a chance and subscribed even though I hadn't seen much of the game. It worked out fine because I really like it, but I had to get to level 10+ to really find that out.

Thanks for the info! I figured to try a pve server first to get to learn the game a bit before I got clobbered by other players! It seems I will just have to try the PvP one possibly this weekend when I can put more time into it. Thank you again for the help.

I lol'd at this on the Learn More Page "Don't miss out on being part of this next generation game. This is the place to be, the best hangout since the dawn of MMORPGs"
Honestly though I'll check it out, I don't know why we haven't seen more games like this.

I agree and this is what bugs me about it. They are charging a Triple A sub fee, though the game itself is free to download.
The 2 screenshots they have did not impress me or have me wanting to "find out more."

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
I tried the game out and the game has a degree of charm, but asking an AAA subscription for it at this early stage is overly-ambitious. I wish it well, but this game doesn't merit that kind of money as yet.
Found a gameplay video on youtube. The foliage may look a little like EQ1's original graphics; but the character models look more like minecraft to me.
Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon. In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit
Downloading now, but one thing that stood out to me was in the FAQ it says level to 50 through the quest system. EQ1 didn't have a quest system for leveling, just random quests for items, like Ghoulbane for example. Is it a bunch of quest hubs like WoW?
Playing: Smite, Marvel Heroes Played: Nexus:Kingdom of the Winds, Everquest, DAoC, Everquest 2, WoW, Matrix Online, Vangaurd, SWG, DDO, EVE, Fallen Earth, LoTRo, CoX, Champions Online, WAR, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Guild Wars, Rift, Tera, Aion, AoC, Gods and Heroes, DCUO, FF14, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, Wildstar, ESO, ArcheAge Waiting On: Nothing. Mmorpg's are dead.

It has little quest hubs, little villages with a sequence of quests in them. It looks like the meat of the game is at 50+ with the five dungeons opening up then. Leveling is quite fast in this game. It is much faster than EQ or ESO.

hmmm... - an end game - dungeons at max level only - fast leveling - quest driven
Are you sure this is "like EQ?"

My intention was to say that the game might appeal to early EQ 1 players, not that it was the same as EQ 1, although it has some things in common with early EQ 1 for sure. My apologies if I did not express that well. Here are the reasons that it appeals to me on that level:
- Although the leveling initially may be fast, there is a long term progression system similar to the AA system in EQ 1 that is designed for long term progression. A friend in game says that the game is designed to take a few years to max your character (might have been talking about gear as well as the "AA" system, I think it is called "AP").
- I never said that all dungeons were at max level, just the majority.
- Nothing is instanced.
- There is a significant death penalty in the XP debt caused upon death, although not as harsh as early EQ corpse runs.
- There are some quests, early EQ had quests too, they even have a kind of "epic" weapon quest for high level players, like EQ 1 had.
- There is no GPS telling you where to go for quests, you have to pay attention and know your way around the map.
- The community is social, it is not just a bunch of players racing to max level in separate instances.
- The feel of the game. This one is hard for me to put into words. But the feeling of wandering around the world gives me the same feeling as when I first started EQ 1. Hard to quantify this but the world feels alive and dangerous.
- The game lets you see the possible drops off any mob you kill after you kill it, your chances of getting each drop, and your "dice rolls". While EQ 1 did not do this, pen and paper D&D certainly did so it is a real throwback to my early gaming days. It is a great little feature.
- There is a sandboxiness to it, you could grind mobs, try for rare drops, explore the maps, do dungeons, kill named mobs, just be social, craft, open world PvP FFA past level 7. It may be more sandboxy than early EQ 1 was. I understand that early EQ 1 may not technically have been a sandbox, but people played it as one often and you can do that here too.
I don't want to "sell" this game to anyone, so I am going to stop commenting on the positives that I see in the game and just hope you guys try it and see what you think. I'll check back and try to answer more objective questions as best as I can.
Have fun and enjoy your journey in whichever game you choose to call home.
Fast leveling + quest hubs = wow clone. Maybe lots will find it fun, and maybe it reminded you of EQ1; if so please go into detail about exactly what elements reminded you of EQ1 so we can try to relate. Right now we can't relate at all.

My apologies for not reading that post fully; guess I was in a hurry. I can see how it has some key game play similarities with EQ1. Thanks. Quest hub leveling though, yuck.
