... and limiting plots to paying members for the first few months is bad form.
Need to... HAVE TO... I gotta know your thinking on this one, man.
What is your suggested alternative?
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
If I were to play this game casually, or come in late.. would I be able to get a house?
Is there plenty of housing space?
the last time i heard something about ArcheAge housing people were talking about losiing your terrain if you stop playing the game for a while. So you will have plenty of space when people start getting forclosures lol.
EDIT: or was it another game?.... im pretty sure it was ArcheAge.
It's not even stopping playing, it's stopping subbing. You can cancel your sub and still log in, but one of the 'benefits' of subbing is the ability to pay the necessary taxes on housing and farms. oh joy, what a fun feature.

Originally posted by velmax Kind of, their is a lot of land and multiple servers so you can, but finding it will be harder.
In Closed beta with only 2 servers there were a lot of nice spots open after 4 days. The number of servers at launch will have a lot to do with land availability but regardless there are always going to be peeps selling houses/land. Also FTP accounts will not have land or houses and people who do have premium accounts will not be hogging limitless land as the more land/houses you own the more TAXes you pay.
Even when/if they are gonne, don't you think people will be leaving game releasing spots?
Don't you think there will be people selling or even reselling land?
Or are you just worried that you won't get a "free" good spot?
Well nothing is free, if you want best spot on release you will have to prepurchase game and grab a piece of land but you will have to actually DO something.
OR you can relax, buy the game in a year, play and enjoy it and than buy it once you grind up enaugh money.
OR you can keep whining on forums how there should be a spot handed to you whenever you decided to joion a game.
i either read or heard/saw when watching gameplay videos hosted by the producer/comm mgr that if you are a subscriber you are guaranteed a plot for a house - is this still true (or misunderstood)

Not true at all.
Housing may be nearly impossible to obtain a month into the game.
I want to say it may be possible to find a house spot in pvp zones on some servers though.
It all depends on server load and thats something we don't know.
"Plenty of space" though does seem to imply that there would be enough for everyone, and from the alpha and beta i've seen no indications that is the case.

No, wurm does not have gliders. It does have terraforming though
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

I think he would rather mass amounts of free bot accounts be made and have all the land claimed by them.
that what they want you to do, keep sub lol
You are not talking about ArcheAge right?

I would prefer they had a different way of handling housing altogether and prepared for this kind of problem before designing it.

Housing spots are difficult to obtain but not impossible.
1) Take your time, view plots and see who hasn't paid their rent. Screenshot location on map with date it forecloses
2) Take several plot locations with screenshots, line them up, and prepare to take them when they go down. (people dont pay rent)
3) Go early, about an hour before foreclosures, and see who still hasn't paid rent.
4) Secure housing plot.
if all else fails
go find housing plots in pvp zones. theres plenty.
