If max level is your goal in AA, your doing it wrong. IMHO the only meaning max level has is the ability to better defend yourself in PvP. Doing it right would mean the activities you partake in pre-50 remain the same after level cap.
Getting your land, tools, resources and tradeskills up >>>>>>>>>> leveling to cap.
Yes, but similar things could be said about many other games that had 25% of the population level up in a week and then quit.
It will happen in any levelbased games because many people are always in a hurry and set a single goal, achive it and then quit whatever game.
So, yes. If you have reached max level in other games in a week and then quit it is very likely you will get the same experience here, and in any other level based game for that matter. But maybe you should think about if that really is the most fun way to play?
I agree with this that it may be the player's play preference that causes them to play for a week to cap and quit. The issue IMO is whether this is the game's problem or the players'. If there aren't other meaningful activities in the MMO after cap then the player can't really be faulted for losing interest. In the case of AA there are many activities that are available after level 50 because level 50 really isn't the "endgame" for content or progression. So a player could level cap and quit but it's by their own volition.
Even by class "levels" this is the case. If a player levels an Argent to 50 this means they have taken the Battlerage, Auramancy and Vitalism trees to completion and can choose any ability within that tree. There are still seven more trees to get proficiency in to unlock all of the abilities. This doesn't take into account housing, boating, farming, crafting, husbandry, etc. that also have deep systems.
Regardless you are correct, I'm sure some will play AA and level in the first few days... and then complain it's the same themepark
https://forums.darkfallonline.com/archive/index.php/t-337951.html - that's from your own forums. Now that's DF not DFUW but aside from the, recently removed, fixed classes and allot of backpeddling back to DF from DFUW by the devs there's really no denying it and I've heard it said many times over from these forums and on EVE from DF players.
Also I rather highly doubt you can do that on day one without some sort of outside help in DF (armor, weapons, etc). Cause if it is possible that isn't a sandbox.
to be clear I am talking about Darkfall 1. Although I have played DFUW I didnt play it enough to judge it well.
As far as DF being like Eve I dont care who says it, its wrong.
the skill system is different, the 'questing' is different, the region distrubution is different. the ONLY thing I can think of that is the same is full loot.
If the skill systems are designed to take time to get there wouldn't it be a case of hidden vs unhidden timers?
Questing? In what way? Are quests a defining feature of DF? Because in EVE aside from possibly the epic arc missions they are all basically boiler plate affairs for rewards.
What do you mean by region distribution? Do you mean servers or high, low, null, wormhole vs whatever DF uses? (last I heard it did have safe zones and pvp zones so again the differences are nitpicky unless you say safe zones in DF are actually safe at which point you shunt DF further towards a open world themepark rather than a sandbox).
if darkfalls skill system is like Eves then Eves is like all skill based progression systems ever made
Darkfall basically dosent have quests, Eve does.
Region distrubution, I can go to the end of the world and still see a variety of mobs between hard and easy..
are you trying to just win a debate by disassembling? because you know if you are you will not change reality.
DF's skill system last I checked is based on grind which is usually balanced around an average play time per day of around 4-5 hours by the devs, once you see that you will notice the similarity between the two skill systems (they are both timers, DF you can speed up slightly by investing more time but still in EVE you can do something else at the same time).
Region distribution in EVE: you can go absolutely anywhere you wish from day 1 (if you're good you can even take a shuttle into 0.0 and see most systems), with a few months of guided skill training you can fight almost anything solo in the game as well (exceptions: sleepers higher than C3 sites, incursion site rats and officer spawns, these are all group orientated so no amount of training can help this, officer spawns are particularly nasty).
Reality is you dislike the notion DF isn't unique and quite frankly it isn't as it tries to do EVE in a fantasy setting but fails to, Mortal Online tries to do SWG pre-CU in a fantasy setting and gets much closer to it than DF got to being what EVE is (a sandbox, DF will never be one as the developers do not want it).

Ugh.. People pulled that argument with Realm Reborn.. If you did not level every class in the game to max level then don't complain about lack of content. Leveling a ton of different classes though the same content is not my idea of fun and should not even count as content.
I really do not want to play another Realm reborn where all the content was leveling up tons of classes..

It's not like ARR. Here is a pretty good explanation
Plus you get xp from doing almost anything in the game so unless you quest hub hop and ignore other activities then you'll get 50 with one class combination quickly, leaving a lot more to see once you have reached the 50 cap, which again, is universal when there is "progression" in many, many other areas. Despite all this maybe someone doesn't want to try any other class tree combinations and only wants to do quests. Once getting level 50 in about four days maybe they don't want to do anything else the game has to offer.
In this case yes, it will be "another get to max level in a week and quit game" but by no fault of the game itself.
Edit: It's worth noting there is a difference between the XP you get for an action ( that raises your universal level 1-50) and the possible proficiency you gain for that action (such as crafting). For instance you gain universal XP just for harvesting.
I played in CB1 and now CB2 and find it a struggle to keep questing. These quests seem meaningless and I keep waiting for the good parts. I'll slog on through simply because people keep telling me it gets better. We shall see. Initially I was on the fence about the combat but starting to fall off the fence. It feels tedious. I hope there is something I could really like further along in this game. Currently lvl 10.

Someone told me you don't have to do anymore quests after level 30..
Most will rush to level 50 in a few days and then ask "what do I do now? What many do not understand is that a large majority of this generation's MMORPG players are "WoW babies." They need hand holding. They need visible progression in terms of levels or gear. They not only need tangible progression in either levels or gear, they need them now.
.... And thats describing the hard core. Many do not even want to level. To many the game doesn't start until cap. So leveling is considered a chore. Truth be told, if they could, they would skip leveling all together.
MMORPG's are in a sad place right now. Really sad place.
To answer the OP's question ... AA is a sandbox once you hit level 50. The leveling experience is basically a tutorial, then they set you loose. That means you begin to find your won way. To ask "what do I do after I get to 50" is to miss the forest for the trees. Figuring what you want to do after 50 is a personal preference and the very definition of a sandbox.

Hitting 50 is trivial in AA.

BUT...Isn't AA supposed to be something different?
What happened? The more I read, the more it seems not.
Because there is a ton of wrong information being posted, either misinformation or deliberate.
There is not AAA game currently on the western market like ArcheAge period.
Shadowbane would be the most similar game if it still existed in terms of guild vs guild warfare.

Shadowbane sucked...but I getcha... (and anyone that says SB didn't (...w...t...f...). Can't believe how many here (not in the real gaming world) think it was great.
But some aspects should have been revised in modern MMOS?
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."
Or the games are way too easy and focus on end game content leaving nothing to do. I never had the problem of running out of stuff to do in SWG, EQ, DAOC, AC..
Seems to be this new age of MMOs that are easy.
But hey ArcheAge wont be like that because it is a real sandbox. Instead of a game that has been hyped as one but really is a themepark with some sandbox elements in it.
[mod edit]
As someone who has about 16 months of AA experience, I can tell you that it is virtually impossible to even scratch the surface of the game in that amount of time and the sheer amount of activities to do in the game will give you far, far more goals than just about any MMO out atm. Even after more than a year of playing, I still had many many goals left to accomplish.
IMHO if you are searching for a game you can play measured in years, AA is your ONLY option atm.
lol maybe if you're playig 4 hours a week for 16 months...

I played Shadowbane for 6 months and yes many aspects of it sucked - but it was awesome as a guild vs guild game. But combat, camera, just general fugly and buggy was abundant - yet still many overlooked it just so they could build their castle with a guild and engage in mass PvP vs other guilds.
ArcheAge is FAR superior to Shadowbane on almost all fronts IMO - and again its a guild vs guild game.
If that's what you're looking for and are not into Sci-fi (EvE) there's not much alternative in the western AAA MMO market currently
I do a lot of reading on gaming forums and here it seems you have a clue on what goes on with AA. Can you give me some information on what goes on at the end? You keep saying guild vs guild so I assume this is like war dec in Eve Online? Is there any meaning to the pvp or is it just another zerg fest open pvp game? If you die in a pvp battle are you right back in it? Can you claim area that means anything? Any information would be great.

open world zerg fest, where being in a massive zerg guild is the best option... i played for over 2 months on russian servers.. 2 toons to cap 1 on each faction, one of my toons was in a large guild and honestly, not being in a large guild on my other toon was a hinderance more then anything....

Russian version is a much older build with old combat.
Also wasn't Auroria completely inaccessible on Russian servers - cant even build a castle.
I only played KR and NA version, but that's what I heard back when RU launched.
RU has been out for a while now, and is currently migrating in 1.2 and has basically not really been that far behind KR servers

Shadowbane guild warfare was much better than AA. In shadowbane there were no limits on the amount of people you
could bring to sieges. This let to a great amount of politics and alliances. In AA other guilds can't help you in sieges so it destroys all politics in this game
Shadowbane also had daily mine fights where you fought to control resource mines
Shadowbane also had a much deeper skill system. It also has a lot more races like vampires, Centaurs,Minos, flying races etc.
And BTW shadowbane is back, its now in open beta, so go check it out.
I'm trying to get a hamdle on what exactly Archeage has to offer and based on reading lots of threads around here it sounds very much like SWG in the sense that you earn XP for doing pretty much anything, there are different types of XP and once you hit level 50 (arriving there however you see fit) the "endgame" is then doing pretty much whatever you personally choose to do.....
I get that this is a little more restricted than SWG as in AA you pretty much have to do some roadmpa type questing whereas in SWG even though there were litterally hundreds of quests to do you could choose to ignore them all with almost no detriment to your progression....but to be honest, this sounds like the perfect balance between themepark and sandbox to me.....
Is that anywhere near accurate? If so....count me in.
This is an observation on players attitude on forums, followed with a question.
Often it seems like people don't want any different kind of experience then the quick massacre up to level cap just to ignore the available endgame and look for the next game.
I keep hearing:
ESO, RvR isn't my thing, nor is casual raiding
Wildstar, I don't like hardcore raiding or instanced PvP
Archeage, I don't care about farms, crafting or world PvP
If none of those things are your thing, then what is it you actually look for in a game?
(sometimes you just don't like the game, and that is fine)
I adore crafting and farming. In fact the farm feature is exactly why I tried out Wurm. Farms, housing and ships are the main reason I tried AA.
Trouble is
1. the housing basically sucks
2. the farms basically...suck
3. ships and crafting is best done after leveling up which I would not mind if I liked the progress which I didnt.
does that clear anything up?
Nope nothing clear about it as you didn't explain why.
Usually I see you take your time to explain things instead of doing what most do which isn't informative at all.
To OP. Yes there will always be people who max level asap, doesn't matter what game. But like you I like to gather some info on what excactly is sandbox. But guess we might be on the wrong forum to find proper information.

well everyone else was stating opinions as fact without clarity so I thought I would.
let me try to explain in a different way.
I have played Darkfall 3 for years, I have played Wurm for a year. Both games I like instantly when I started playing them.
I joined AA for housing and farms, I quit the game and uninstalled it after about 20 hours of game play. I really prefer Darkfall and Wurm.
Am I just crazy? isnt there actually a reason why I like those games instead? think about it for a while.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Tried DF... cheapo version of EVE with less flash and meat.
Tried Wurm.... minecraft but with compatibility issues up the exhaust.
Played Archeage.... better looking SWG with certain negatives and certain bonuses.
Opinion is opinion Sean it does not require thinking about it especially when AA and Wurm does not cost a dime to try and DF costs quite a bit.
It is nothing like SWG.. I was hyped about AA because I expected a sandbox but the games pushes you to do quests right from the start and I believe you do quests until about level 30.
I don't think you can join and from level one decide the only thing you are going to do is craft or build stuff.. It also has these annoying labor points.. To report a bot costs labor points... lol
I'm in the CB2 and I'm really having a hard time even wanting to play it. I keep hearing the game is so in depth and crazy, etc. But all I can find is just a quest hub grinder, what level do I have to be to start doing other things.
And what are the other things in this game that can be done? I'm to burnt out on quest grind mmo's this late in my gaming history.
Playing: Smite, Marvel Heroes Played: Nexus:Kingdom of the Winds, Everquest, DAoC, Everquest 2, WoW, Matrix Online, Vangaurd, SWG, DDO, EVE, Fallen Earth, LoTRo, CoX, Champions Online, WAR, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Guild Wars, Rift, Tera, Aion, AoC, Gods and Heroes, DCUO, FF14, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, Wildstar, ESO, ArcheAge Waiting On: Nothing. Mmorpg's are dead.

Reality is you dislike the notion DF isn't unique and quite frankly it isn't as it tries to do EVE in a fantasy setting but fails to, Mortal Online tries to do SWG pre-CU in a fantasy setting and gets much closer to it than DF got to being what EVE is (a sandbox, DF will never be one as the developers do not want it).
you are disassembling and obfuscating
I stick by what I have already said.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Then enjoy your games but do not try calling them unique or better because there are plenty of better ones around.
It's not like ARR. Here is a pretty good explanation
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqtXtWW7M8I
Plus you get xp from doing almost anything in the game so unless you quest hub hop and ignore other activities then you'll get 50 with one class combination quickly, leaving a lot more to see once you have reached the 50 cap, which again, is universal when there is "progression" in many, many other areas.
^ Could be said anywhere about any MMO (not saying you aren't agreeing).
BUT...Isn't AA supposed to be something different?
AA was "The sandbox" and "The Theme Park Killer"
What happened? The more I read, the more it seems not.
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."
"Because there is a ton of wrong information being posted, either misinformation or deliberate."
I get that
"There is not AAA game currently on the western market like ArcheAge period."
So?
"Shadowbane would be the most similar game if it still existed in terms of guild vs guild warfare."
Relax....."
lol maybe if you're playig 4 hours a week for 16 months...
That's a great description of SB.... srsly
AA better be far superior. I hope what you say is right about AA also...from wht I've read....meh
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."
open world zerg fest, where being in a massive zerg guild is the best option... i played for over 2 months on russian servers.. 2 toons to cap 1 on each faction, one of my toons was in a large guild and honestly, not being in a large guild on my other toon was a hinderance more then anything....
