Played Archeage for a day, short review.

I played Archeage for a day, and made it to lvl 22.

First off, I will say Archeage got a lot of things right.

I like the mounts, and how you can equip items to them, or make them pack mules.

That was really cool.

I liked the spells, and mixing different schools to make combo's and such. I like that there were bards in it.

The game actually reminded me more of EQ2 than WoW.

I LOVED a  lot of the sound effects. Getting into a row boat, and hearing the boat creaking was AMAZING to me.

I liked seeing all the crowd control mechanics to the game. Stuns, Snares, Silences, Impales, etc. It made me believe gameplay could get really interesting.. Although I saw some crazy videos of things like Bubble Trap + Loading a giant AOE to crit and nearly 1shotting a guy....

I didn't care for the tab-target, but it was something I could live with if the spells were interesting enough, which they seemed to be.

I didn't care for the quest hubs, but it's a means to an end. I can live with that too.

What I didn't like about it was the item progression. Getting an item upgraded by something minutely better in a treadmill gear-flation fashion, ala typical themepark MMO.

I didn't like that it's not full loot. I haven't gotten the pvp, but my understanding is your can loot tradepacks but not gear.

I only wish Archeage had a true crafting economy and full loot, like Darkfall. Where you made gearbags and they got looted from pvp, but all gear was the same and replaceable. Instead of going through a level/dungeon/gear treadmill to get epic loot that is no drop, I would rather it simply be crafted, destroyable with use, and lootable upon death.

That's my honest review, after getting to lvl 22. Seems like an interesting game, definately more interesting than WoW, but overall I still like Darkfall better. Just my opinion.

If anyone has anything to add to make me want to lvl to 30, I will be happy to listen.

another fair review that I can respect.  I can't say I agree with the full loot idea, just not my thing. I did not like it in UO pre trammel, and that was my last experiance with full loot. Never tried Darkfall though so I can't really say much about it's system. Might try it if AA ever pisses me off

I do like the crafting in AA just the way it is, rare armor is really rare and dungeon dropped stuff id middle of the road.  To get to the top crafted stuff will take months if not years and that is fine with me. Just upgraded my glider on my main combat tune, Took it up 4 levels with a few gold and a hundred or so labor points. To take it up anouther notch woul drequire several rare crafting items which might take me months to gather.

the Korean grinder aspect of the game is just fine with me since I am sick of flavor of the week interactive storybooks that label themselves as MMO's. That plus there is so much I don't know yet about the game, despite playing on Alpha for 3 months now. Last night I discovered battle pets, where to buy a basic underwater farm, and underwater mining which I had no clue even existed until a guildie took me out on her boat to experience.  as a Darkfall type you would have liked that because a group of the other faction attacked us and stole the boat which they trashed. Luckily  our guild has a crafter that could make the repairs on it. Fun times indeed

Whether you go any higher is really up to you. I find AA a lot of fun. For you the PvP may be on the light side because of the lack of full loot and minimal death penalties. For me it is just about right. For others any PvP is too harsh.  Different strokes for different folks :)

    I miss DAoC

Not to bash your thread, but there are like 15 of these. Just saying.

Overall I have found the game very....casual and generic.

From the controls to leveling structure it's a typical themepark ride. I was honetly expecting ALOT more and even when I did get to the ships which is supposed to be the biggest original concept it was very cheap feeling and clunky as well as the housing is very generic and lackluster with many immersion breaking elements.

The game solely lacks well, a soul. It's a very hollow gaming experience to me and despite the few "cool" or interesting things you can do it's overall very generic and lackluster and immersion is broken almost everywhere you go.

This is one game that looks much better in videos than in actual play. It feels like a larger than average minigame made by microsoft.

Lol and you must have really loved all of the hacks, speed hacks, cheats that ppl were doing in game. I loved the video of the flying dutchman hack where someone speed hacked a boat right out form some players and then flew through the air, went under the water and through the mountains right in front of people. I can't wait to see stuff like that in AA

I just don't think this is your game. Eastern games always have a "crisp" feel to them, it's hard to explain. I suppose I could see how that could be perceived as "no soul".

Where you see generic I see "traditional", where you see lack of immersion I see it as a different style and a certain "playability".

Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

i have 2 50s on the alpha servers, I love the game. But one thing i don`t like is i feel limited to spots i can grind for stuff.

Like at the moment it`s purely Library or hasla farm (lvl 50 and 50+ zones) and after your burn through your labor, which is very easy to do. that is pretty much all your left with is grinding the same 2 spots and trying to decide which one you want to grind for the next few hours. The PvP is AMAZING, but i also feel a lot of the open PvP is useless atm, i mean you get honor and all. but there really isn`t much more to it and the game is at the point now where you don`t see a lot of open pvp in zones when wars appear.

Dungeons are good. Until you get what you need. World bosses are cool but the good ones require you to have a huge guild and i know there`s a lot of people like me that like a smaller type guild where everyone knows one another. I have a feeling it will be the same at launch, as it was for alpha launch.

Lots of open PvP at the start, awesome battles going on left and right, then about a month or 2 in it will just be not worth doing.

Love the game, and i know people say there is so much to do, and there is but it`s a lot of doing the same stuff over and over and over for 100s of hours.

Take the hasla farm zone, T1 weap =150 tokens>acquire T1 sword>Farm another 300 tokens for t2 and then T3 is like 500-800 tokens (sorry i forget). And that is just farming the same 2 types of mob for 100s of hours.

I feel they need to add a lot more spots for grinding and make each warzone give different things. (I personally love grinding).
