Originally posted by dosvalencia I think it's really like that, especially with wow. We all play the next big game, WIldstar for me, and then when Warlords arrives I play the hell outta it. Then maybe go back to my house in Wildstar, or maybe dtry some new MMo,
play the shiz out of the current WoW patch -> leave for a game, Wildstar for me as well -> go back to WoW when new patch comes along.
I dunno about Archeage reaching GW2 levels of hype as GW2 when it launched was a crazy high levels. GW2 is a good mmo. Archeage looks also to be a good mmorpg. Both offer potential free gameplay and no monthly subs. (You don't have to buy in game items.)
I'm not kidding though when I tell you all looking for a great mmo experience to check out Asheron's Call, released back in 1999. There you can play either PvE or on a harsh, unforgiving all PvP server (Darktide). The game has almost 15 years of monthly lore and updates/quests/content put into it now. And the reason I mention this game now is for two reasons... It's likely that many of you newer mmo fans haven't ever played or tried the game yet, and also because it's just went free to play with only a single, simple $9.99 per account charge to start up.
If you can just get over the old graphics of Asheron's Call, I guarantee you that you will find a superb, unbelievable rich in content and lore MMO, with skill based PvP and a random loot generation system that puts even the Diablo games to shame. As far the graphics of Asheron's Call, it would likely be it's biggest complaint today, however it's graphics are still better then today's mega-popular Minecraft game that everyone seems to love.
You can also watch some of my videos by checking out my post on the Asheron's Call forums where I've posted links to 42 videos I made just last year, to make sure it looks like a game you might be able to get into.
But yes, Archeage looks pretty good even though I am waiting on it to go free to try it (or get a beta key), however it seems to me that no current gen mmo can match the lore and depth of gameplay that is found in old school mmo's. Those games were less graphical goodness yes, but seemed to be much richer in gameplay depth and lore for sure.
Now many of us here recall the hype around GW2 where the forum fervor was at an all time high. I'm reading a lot of stuff being thrown around here on these forums about AA. How people are playing it wrong. How it is the old school MMO experience we want.
Are we now reaching Guild Wars 2 hype with Archeage? Is Archeage the new GW2?
The board is mostly filled with complaints about the game right now rather than praises. I don't think it will be as heavily hyped as GW2 was. Hopefully people won't make the same mistake they made with GW2 and hype it up to be something it most certainly isn't.

Well it might be good for AA if years after the release, they are able to sustain the player base GW2 has. I have been playing for about a month (came back) and was surprised to see a steady and fairly heavy player base.
I mean seriously, one of them is like farmville while the other is candycrush. The only common denominator is the G, and it's not even in the same case..
