True Third and First Person Yet?

TechpriestTechpriest Member Posts: 104

I am a Star Wars fan, and as such I am willing to overlook problems with this game that I would not overlook in others.  Bad reviews kept me away from the early release but I had hopes that they would get it working, then I would sign up.  I finally got in on a demo and liked much of it.  There is one problem I could not overlook and it forced me to quit the game 2 days into the demo.  I would love to get back into the Star Wars universe but won't until the "Deal Breaker" issue has been fixed.

I tried first person and when I turned around the camera kept looking in the same direction.  I was running North and looking South.  This is not like any first person game I have ever played.  I tried 3rd person camera view and it also did not act like every one of the dozens of MMORPG I have tried.  When my toon turns left I want the camera to stay behind him, not keep looking straight.

I asked when I was playing the demo how to lock the camera and was told to use left hand to move toon, right hand for camera.  I really hate playing like that.  The fact that  this is the only game, online or off, that I have ever played in which I was forced to manually control camera in first person view makes me think I am not the one thinking outside the norm.

Can you lock the camera now or do I wait another year and ask again?

As proof of my Star Wars fan status I present the following:  Remember the music that was playing when the guys walked down the isle at the end of Star Wars?  That is the music that was playing when my wife walked down the isle at our wedding.

I never had the problem you're describing. I do most of my running around via mouse, though, and am often jumping out to 3rd person just to admire my character (LOL I'm so enamoured of my little pile o pixels).

There is a "default mmo" keymap that would probably solve your issue.

Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

Can you run around the world with one hand?  Set your char to autorun then sit back and with one hand change the direction he is going on by pressing one of the arrow keys, don't touch the mouse.  If you are going North and change to West does the camera look West or keep facing North?  Last time I played the camera would never move unless you moved mouse.  I was hoping they would add an option to lock camera to character direction.  If your saying you don't have this problem I am hoping that means they did and just want to clarify you understand the problem I had.

Thanks, I tried the different key mapping before and it made it easier to find the keys but did not change how the camera behaved.

Tech, when running or riding long distances, I tend to just pop the num lock key to shove myself into auto run then tap my mouse right or left just a bit to keep from getting hung up on buildings.  I see in third person, camera chasing my character's backside with a clear view of where I'm going to, not where I've been.  In first person (which I rarely use on long runs) I just see where I'm going.

This is the best, most simple and clear way I can describe it.

I remember having that same problem early on. And I'm talking about first or second week of release. I then found out it wasn't a problem at all, it was just my settings. At first everything worked fine, and then I did something that caused that kickback action that you described. One of the above post said something about default settings, that is what I think fixed it. So in reality it was never a problem at all, just a setting that you had set. Never had a problem with either of the things that you described except for that short period of time that I didn’t know what was wrong. So now there’s no reason for you NOT to play, since both of your problems were something that could be easily fixed with a simple settings adjustment eh?image

I wish I could find my old posts from here.  When I tried the game a year or so agao and had the problem the only advice I got was to use left hand to move char and right hand to move camera.  I was under the impression that is how everyone played and it is NOT how I like to play.

I never had the problems with camera locking the original poster described, not even in summer 2003.

At present the game offers you half a dozen or more  keymaps from several different games, so I am sure you will find a mode you like.

    Have fun

You could not withstand the power of the Dark Side.  Beware the insidious Darth Hampster.

I think the dark side got into the code.  I am tad dissapointed in how fast I am finding bugs.

Got in a fight with a dwarf nanu.  Not hard, I can usually take them without getting hurt much.  After fighting for several minutes I noticed neither of us took damage.  I stopped fighting and walked back towards town.  Me and my "pet" headed for town and after another few minutes somebody came over to me, probably to see what the heck I was doing not fighting back.  Before I could ask him to kill the nanu I suddenly went from 900 health to 0 and was incapacitated.  Now I kind of miss the little guy.

I also keep getting told," You can't see target."  when I can see them perfectly well from 1st person.

While trying to use a cloner I was TOUCHING I was told to "Get Closer".

I will think positive and maybe I just got lucky and found a lot of bugs in my first few hours, and won't have this many problems during the whole game.

Both of the problems you described are known and they are working on it.

If you cant see the cloning machine despite sitting on top of it, target it and type in /clone and it works.

The invincible mobs .... for now just walk away from them and fight another of the 50 nunas around the city.

About that incap .... did you check the combat log what exactly has one hit incapped you ? It could have been a higher level mob (e.g. a desert demon thug).

    Have fun
