What kind of graphics do you chose? Realistic, Stylized or Cartoon.

Me, myself and I chose a stylized leaning towards the cartoon end of the spectrum graphics over realistic, I know its a personal opinion and  that's why I created a poll. 

I also think that the cartoon styled games could go much further, i'm thinking naruto ninjastorm for example, or even further into unknown full motion comic art. I personally never enjoyed realistic graphics in any game i'v played other then perhaps TSW and that's because it has some pretty stylized environments in there, even though its leaning towards realism, it would be as "real" as I could handle. I know Star Citizen is aiming for a realistic look and feel, but watching the current development I would say they are also leaning more towards stylized realism like TSW and as I'v said, that's ok with me. But when games aim to do full realism, like COD, BF, ESO and the likes I tend to lose interest fast, as im sure tehre are people out there who are my complete oposite and want as much realism as possible in their games.

I also believe this is one of the main reasons we will never have a mmorpg that fits everyone, cause if we can not even agree on a basic premis such as art direction and style, how could we ever agree on other things such as pve, pvp, sandpark, themebox, and so on?

Enough ranting, lets see what the mmorpg.com community choses in this three way poll!

Where is all of the above ? I've never found graphics to be something that kept me from a game. I even got past uncharted waters 20 year old graphics and had fun playing it.

I would say stylized is me least favorite but .... I played wow for 4 years so. Tera was my favorite but I don't know what style you'd call it ? I'd call it anime if I had to pick a word.

Stylized for mmorpgs, but if its realistic or cartoony i will still play it if the game is good.

 

All three options are good to me tho, i think the question should be, would you reject a game that has low quality textures? My answer is yes. Regardless of artstyle and aesthetics, if the graphic quality is washed out and bad, i will not play a game.

 

I am weird in that aspect.... gameplay is more important than visuals to me, but if the visuals fidelity and textures are bad, i will still skip the game. No matter how good the gameplay is, i cannot play a game if im not enjoying what im looking at the screen.

Stylized or Realistic. No reason to use a toon engine in 2014 in my opinion.

The way I look at it, ALL graphic styles are really "cartoon". But if I would have to choose I would choose realistic....if you could define that.

In fact, what IS the definition of the three? Does anyone have a clear idea? I think Wildstar graphics are far too "cartoony" while I think a game like Far Cry 3 is fairly "realistic". But at the same time I think of both as more cartoon then real. What a conundrum.

I am not sure but I think I like WoW and Rift and swtor style graphics whatever those fall into.

All 3 it depends mainly on the character animations, UI layout, and translations more for me.

i totally dig the cartoony graphics such as TF but now im glued with Wildstar, nothing beats it!

I agree with ohhpaigey. I choose games that run smoothly on my PC and good character control. Games that have crappy character control for me are tsw and lotro. Age of Conan too but it's got good graphics.

Korean fantasy anime styled graphics like TERA and Aion are what I prefer. Even games like Black Desert, which are more realistic but still a bit stylized, look great. Cartoony I can't stand and Realistic only to a certain extent. ESO is interesting but not the best, TSW is also pretty cool, minus the character models, but also not what I prefer either.

Stylized realism is what I would prefer.  I can handle cartoony character models like in WoW and WildStar, but would love to see more detailed world graphics in both those games.  Not a fan of anime.

realistic / stylized ... i was so fed up of wildstar graphis on my beta prediod (only few days but that was enought) that i cryed my eyes out

The question, as stated, is too simplistic. I like all of those grpahic types, as long as they are suited to the game they are presented in.

 

For example, Wildstar's graphics suitthe game perfectly, but would be unsuitable in a game like Dark Souls. Warhammer Online hit a sweet spot graphically, for the dark, gothic stuff they were presenting.  The stylized graphics in a game like Darkest Dungeon are  perfectly suited to the setting and material.

 

So I suppose my answer is: I like all of them, depending on circumstances.

So long as the game, the world, the housing and the character creation is impressive I don't really care about graphic style but I would prefer something that didn't look like a preschool art contest.  For the immersion.

Imho any one graphic style gets boring if it's the same graphics from game, to game, to game. Having different graphics in different games makes life much more fun.
