System Performance during large Battles questions

jadzYajadzYa Member UncommonPosts: 44

Hi,

I come from EVE in which as you probably all know server (but in this case I'm interested in client too) performance is a major bottleneck and I was wondering how is AA going to be affected by this issue. I understand AA is not one universe, so server population is the first step towards mitigating performance issues. But how is it being handled locally?

So first question is world-bosses. Are they the same as the rest of the npc and the first party hitting it claims it (is this even true or for wold bosses is a dps race like in aion)? Does that mean that at such events you will not normally see more than 50 ppl + the odd player  watching  or trying to get in?

Sieges from what I’ve read is limited to 100 vs 100. Is that true for NA? How is performance client side with 200 ppl fighting in the same limited area? I presume server is not affected by only 200 people fighting right? What happens with the big guilds that can have more than 100 people online (I've read that the guild size limit is 700, before you even start talking alliances)? How do you prevent those people from interfering at least by doing stuff that creates lag if not actually killing adversaries?

What about multiple sieges? Can 100vs100 fights happen on the entire North Continent at the same time and as such become a performance issue for the area or the entire server? Is usually server performance global, or from a multi-core, multi-cpu perspective the areas are separated?

What about very large but objective-less battles. Like enormous naval battles? Can that happen and will the server go down?

Sorry if my questions seem noobish. It is because I am :)

Yes? No? Don't know? Don't care?

No one played on RU/KR servers enough to answer at least some of my questions? Should I get worried that the testing around this area has been quite low and when goons join the game is gonna be bye bye for all of us? :D

I didn't get far enough in CB2 to PvP.

I did a couple quests where the mobs only spawned at certain times so we usually ended up having 70 - 100 players in the same small area and it was lag free with an average 50 - 60 fps.

Hope that answers some of your question.

With a decent pc / laptop you get realy good performance with zero lag.

I played ESO with the same pc i play Archeage and its a world of diffrence.

No rubber banding no lag no skill delay compared to insane lag and ability delay in ESO.

    My system specs are:

    Intel 2500K

    Radeon 7950

    8 gigabyte Ram

Ingame highest settings and running 45 to 150 frames per second depending on smoke / mist <---this for some reason hits my Ati card realy hard in every game i play.

Thank you. At least I've got the first (and unfortunately less important) question answered. Any chance I can please get an answer for the intensive PvP scenarios too?
