ArcheAge: Third Beta Event Detailed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The latest blog on the ArcheAge site takes a look back at the second closed beta event and gives players some insight into what changes may be in store for the third beta event set to begin August 14th and run through the weekend. The team is taking a hard look at the Labor System and its attendant costs, working closely with XLGames in the process.

For gameplay, we are continuing to collect and review your feedback with XLGAMES, especially around all of the different aspects of the Labor System. The concept of labor is intertwined with every other system in the game and great care must be taken when changing parts of it in order to avoid unintended, wide-reaching effects. The feedback from our tests has been really solid and we’re focusing on the best ways to improve the gameplay experience for free players. Some of that relief will arrive when APEX is introduced and we’re now also we’re working with XLGAMES to remove the labor cost for opening quest rewards in a future update as well.

Read the full blog, including the retrospective on Beta 2, on the ArcheAge site.

Tried the 2nd Beta after receiving a key from Trion - but had to give up after suffering hours of crashes, freezing, even complete crash to pc restart.

Re-checked all the specs, game space etc etc and made sure I was in the eu version (for uk) - but no luck.

Hopefully I'll have more success with the next beta.

I never had any problems you have described.  Everything has gone rather smoothly.

Anyone else feel like these "beta events" are just an obvious con? Is it any wonder my e-mail box gets flooded with "JOIN THE ARCHEAGE ALPHA NOW" after every beta event?

This "development process" from Trion feels more like "how much money can we rake in from our alpha server before we launch?"

Poor show from a company that used to have such a good reputation - this cash grab is so obvious and pathetic it's unreal that they'd sink to this.

Shame that Suzie doesn't actually read the release or look at a calendar.

    It specifically states:

Our third Closed Beta Event will begin at 10:00 AM PDT next Thursday, August 14 and run through Monday, August 18 at 10:00 AM PDT.

Off course it is. First of all for a already released product to be in Alpha seems rather odd. Being Both in Alpha and Beta seems to be just silly. In fact for any product to be both in Alpha and Beta at the same time seem silly. My guess is that the only vital testing done is server side and  the back-end for the website. That is why people are being invited to "test" the F2P section of the game.

Love this game - brought the most basic pack and it is worth every penny.

After seeing defiance changes I'm convinced that the no tricks no traps motto of trion has been thrown out the window. This game will need major overhauls if it's going to have any kind of large audience imo.

They are completely missing the point geesh. You don't make a game to make sure the COST is the most important aspect of discussion, that is just ludicrous. You make a game to be good and develop the aspects of the GAME based on player feedback, you don't ONLY focus on the cash shop or the mechanics that focus on cash shop.

That is the problem,no matter what they do it is always going to look like a money grab that is always misleading.

Now if there was focus on reality such as players getting fatigued and needing sleep that is different, but this focus seems to be about f2p versus those who pay more and how to balance the spending and that is a really bad focus for a team to take, the GAME is number 1 not the cash shop.

This is just further proof that trying to PRETEND to be a f2p game all the while having all the focus on the cash shop is just bad for gaming,we should have never strayed from the subscription pay model,at least that way EVERY player was treated the same and the game was about the game not trying to make a game work with a cash shop.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

this unfortunately is the "trend" in this genre now, same thing with the EQ thing, they keep trying to get me to buy into their alpha after these silly 7 day "trial things". It's disgusting our crony-style-capitalism in our corporate-fascist "society".

LOL Crony Capitalism? Did Trion recieve a bailout? Where they to big to fail? Perhaps a no bid contract? I would agree were living in a psudo fascist society right now; perticularly the merger of the State and corporations, however this "Game" is in no way a reflection of either of your trendy terms.

I think everyone needs to chill out and come to the understanding that this is a game (and others) and nothing more.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

Thank god, maybe we can stop seeing all these threads bishing about the labor point system. They are trying to work it out, hang tight. People forget the game is in beta and try to treat it like its already released....so silly.

and the cable TV prices keeps going up

and they made health insurance more expensive

gas prices are going up again

cost of living is going up

Except the only thing that's apparently still frozen at "2004 prices" are the wages of game developers, because MMO players flatly refuse to pay more than $15 per month for a sub. Well, that's provided they are actually willing to pay a sub at all...

1.) Trion is the Publisher of this game not the Developer. This is XL Games' baby, Trion is the bridge that brings it to the western region. Trion is working with them to make this title more western friendly since the pay model and a lot of the in-game features make westerners uncomfortable (Tera Online for example). It's not as easy as pressing a few buttons and translating text from Korean to English, they are also working on French and German versions too. Accuracy is key.

2.) It is proven that you can play this game totally free and benefit as a patron using Trions' f2p model. I've done it in Rift and I've taught many people how to do it as well. I used to average at least two REX per week just selling freaking stripped leathers, Chiffon cloth, and Elm Lumber. With Archeage's crafting system I can see myself being very profitable once I get my hands on the auction house.

3.) IT'S FREE TO PLAY the way you want to play. You can still craft without patron pass. You can still level all the way up to 50. You can still run through dungeons and raids, become a pirate, slay the Kraken, go to jail, open world PVP, join a guild, create a guild, go diving, fishing, collect guilda stars, You'll still get your first mount and glider before lvl 10. It's all there, it'll just take you some time and effort to earn APEX. You still have a max of four toons on a server. I'd like to see you try that with something from Perfect World Entertainment.

Do not play AA if you are hoping that there'll be significant changes incoming (in gameplay or monetization) in the near future that will make the game "better" than it currently is.

The NA/EU market is only 1 out of the 5 regions (Korea, Japan, China, Russia and soon EU/NA) where the game is published. Obviously XLGames are not going to develop 5 different versions of the game. If there is a request for a significant change to an aspect of AA, all 5 regions will have to be consulted.

This appears to be one of the underlying reasons why Trion's roll-out has been so glacially slow. They seem to have been asking for quite a few changes and adjustments, and the XLGames team has to deal with requests from 4 different publishers/regions. Obviously already launched regions will get priority for major issues, and there is also ongoing development to take care of.

All this really says is that they were grossly overpaid in 2004 if they can still make an indecent profit with the same amount in 2014.

making money off of your product does not equal employees making a lot of money.

    You must know this.

And it can even come down to what their profit margins are from then until now.
