that video is great. and to think thats technically crap because the vid is like a vid of a vid. so to speak.
anyway...the screenshots we've been shown really do the game absolutely zer0 justice. seeing the vid i can see just how excellent the graphics are and im very impressed. the screenshots are misleading and dont really show the full greatness of the graphics. i also loved how the characters looked...i cant cant cant wait to make my monk/whatever else character.

Guild Wars 2 is my religion

Even though it contains the same run-through as the other video, the one Drake posted is worth a look--Melissa focuses a little longer on character generation. Good stuff =)

Wow, I heard there was a lot of options but thats just insane. Ive never seen so many sliders/options in my life ::::35:: No wonder it can take hours to make a character. Theres more options for customizing a coat than there is for an entire character in WoW.

Heh, indeed, Orcc. WoW's character creation system sucked.

Yeah I know its crazy how many options they had on the character creator. Can't wait tell the game is released so I can use it.

    sorry for double post

  • My take on PvP in any MMORPG is this: if it's not at the core of your design, don't try to throw it in as an afterthought just to apease the PvP-oriented crowd. You wind up with an absolute mess. At this stage in the development, Simu's best bet is probably just to make a few PvP servers and let the griefers have their playground. Or just have a few arena/battleground areas that are FFA but don't amount to anything substantial.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big proponent of PvP, but not if it isn't done justice by making it a top priority in the game's design from the get-go.

HJ already has a very appealing PvE design so why tarnish that with a PvP system that's worked into the game later and then altered/fixed to suit. It's like trying to fit the proverbial square peg into the round hole.

On the subject of dev interaction with the public, I think it's fantastic... however, I strongly suggest that Simu restrict that primarily to their own forums that they themselves police, particularly after release. Remember the Mythic debacle? They started out with the best intentions and communicated constantly with the playerbase through public forums while their own forums were by invitation only and restricted to a very limited number of players. Since Mythic had no control over the public forums it turned into a royal flamefest that resulted in them closing the public off completely and giving players a bad taste in their mouths about Mythic's reputation. It works so much better in an environment that Simu can control and keep a handle on so when posters step over the line, they can nip it in the bud.

About the CCS, yeah, some Area Designers are getting worried.  Folks may just spend all their time in the CCS and never go play <grin>

It is, thats the problem, I avoid it on purpose or I'd never get any work done.

Do you have any idea how many different pieces of clothing there are currently? Or how many different sliders/customization options there are? It looked, just from that short clip in the video, that there were over a hundred different options.

Can't say yet, because its still being improved, but suffice it to say, if two people want to look the same, they better coordinate closely, otherwise it just wont happen <grin>

im afraid if I go back into it, Ill spend all day trying to mimic real life folks, ie, Honest Abe walking through Elanthia. (Though I dont think stovepipe hats are included)

Problem with that is that Simu's board layout sucks. Hopefully after HJ is released they can devote a bit of attention to make it nifty like this one.

Besides, I'm sure more people actually come to MMORPG.com and actually have an account with MMORPG.com than people go to Simu's website...but that'll probably change when HJ goes live or gets really crazy hyped via magazines or other gaming websites.

Speaking of which, hey Simu employees: have you guys even tried to contact Gamespot, PC Gamer, Computer Gaming World, or any other l33t gaming mag/website about HJ? It doesn't seem like they know that this new incarnation of the game exists, for I remember that CGW knew about the old one back in the day.

I would rather HJ stayed as far from PCgamer as possible. PCgamer is just a bunch of sell-outs, and their reviews of most popular games are biased. I would rather see the games community grow from people finding out about it through their own means, not by forcing the game down peoples throats like they do with other games *cough*WoW*cough*
