Any news when there will be an Engine upgrade for this game?

KangaroomouseKangaroomouse Member Posts: 394

Just wondering about these "Voxels" and if there is an update planned.

----

Right now the Voxels looks like shit once you are 10 meters away as they all melt into a blob like the Legos of my brother i set on fire when i was 12.

----

Is there any news on an Engine upgrade or is this what it's going to look like on release and in EQNext?

    the game engine is Forgelight

currently, SOE is using it for all their new games

Umm no - sure there will be tweaks but the current engine is limited to DX9.

No DX 11 support is planned period AFAIK

Going Dx11 doesn't automatically make things look better..

The problem is Voxels. The tech (or pp) inst there to do the proper smoothing and rendering of these objects to make them more "realistic"

Weird because Planetside and H1Z1 do not use Voxels. There must be 2 branches then because Landmark definately is a voxel based Engine and looks completely different than PS2/H1Z1

That's my issue, the Voxels are just horrible. If you are a few steps away from a player made house the windows start to blend and bleed into each other, once you are little further away it all blends together into a weird blob and at a long distance everything looks like a square with different colors.

I think what you call this is very restrictive LOD setting and it needs to be increased. Which could be an issue since the engine already chokes on this setting with very inconsistent frame rates on my gaming PC that can run BF4/Metro on Ultra.

    ----

There is no NDA so i will just post a few screenshots in a couple of minutes to illustrate my point. It's extremely ugly and i hope they change it.

uh shit, the forgelight engine is dx9 only? didnt know.

    time to improve. totaly.

"believe me, mike.. i calculated the odds of this working against the odds that i was doing something incredibly stupid… and i did it anyway!"

It's for performance and covered in last years SoELive. At,a certain distance the voxels "combine" to lessen the stress on processing. How this can be fixed is by a rendering distance type of setting (can't remember the name). Improving it would depend on how far the setting can be moved out and if the persons computer could handle it.
