I've posted a thread in the support forums here: http://forums.archeagegame.com/showthread.php?27185-Game-does-not-launch.
It appears a lot of people are having similar issues (judging by the amount of threads with like topics). Any suggestions from people that have been playing this game for a while?

The installer is a bit goofy if you ask me, and yes, initially, it seemed like it wouldn't launch. Initially I launched using the AA icon on the desktop. Saw the Hackshield logo then pretty much nothing but it launched a help window for Archeage in Internet Explorer. I logged into that for no apparent reason then minimized it. Then I launched Glyph from the desktop and logged into it. I went down to the bottom of the window and switched the pulldown from available games to installed games. Nothing really changes on the screen per se. They clicked on play. It took a little while for the game to launch due to the movie needing to be loaded... the hard disk was a churning so you knew it was trying to do something. Basically I was logged in two three different things at the time. The game launched. All was peachy.
All I know is that the game launched from Glyph, the third thing I logged into.
I don't get a help window launching in IE or any other browser.
Does it automatically update itself or is there something I need to do?
Thanks, DM. I will try this. But the account I am using have full administrator privileges am running in a Windows domain environment.
[Sorry for the double post]
I sent a tweet off to Scapes last night and he replied saying most of the login issues had been fixed.
One thing that worked for me (that I'd also seen recommended in other posts) is that you use Logout to exit Glyph rather than the X. Then log back in and see if it helps; there was some suggestion on the forums that the cache needed to be cleared.
I actually just uninstalled the whole game. Redownloading the client right now.
Update: Uninstall and reinstall from scratch did not resolve the issue.
Any other tips? I do think it's a Hackshield issue. I am going to search Hackshield forums.
Edit: It seems like a lot of people are having some issue with this Hackshield. I've tried doing the manual update, closing processes, etc. But I'm not going to go through uninstalling and removing everything on my system just do try out a beta for a day and a half. If they come up with a fix, I'll gladly try it. But wasting tons of time on this isnt worth it for me right now.
Thanks for the help guys. If you do come across a fix, please post it.
Ugh good luck. =/

No software firewall running. Windows built-in is always disabled. I only run a hardware firewall. I can't disable my AV. It's Filefront. I have to uninstall it. Not worth going that route. Besides, in all my years of IT work, I've never had an issue where my AV caused any problem installing anything on any system (this includes servers, etc). I may be a bit stubborn on that one but again, it's not worth the extra time involved for me.
Thanks though.
Thanks. Tried it. Still no go.
Removed virus protection, still can't get the game to run.
This reminds me A LOT of the whole Game for Windows Live client bugs. It seems a lot of people are being affected by this. If launch is really around the corner and they can't figure this one out, this is going to be a very BIG problem for this game.
Edit: I do have a ticket in as well but it's a 72 hour window for a reply so not sure how this is going to help me.
Finally got the game to launch for me. It appears that this game does not launch if you are using folder redirection. Specifically, redirecting the "Documents" folder.
This is really sloppy coding on their part. I've only seen this in a couple of low budget games in the past couple of years. Why? No reason whatsoever as far as I can discern except the coders have no idea how to work with user profiles in a modern Windows environment. Redirection has been available and used for years in many environments.
I'm going to post my findings on the forums.
I did. I also am posting it here to help others. So if you don't believe these forums are to be used to help others, you need to take your little "suggestions" and keep them to yourself.
Edit: Let's see if they fix this before launch. Seeing as how it's gotten this far without them noticing, I have my doubts.

More and more people are doing it on personal PCs due to wanting to store their Documents or other data on NAS drives. And with the Windows Home Server I am sure it is also more common.
After I reverted the changes back, the game went back to its prior behavior. There is no reason why this can't be supported. It's really just the coders not being aware of the ability of the OS to do this. They should have coded it not to look for the folder in the C drive but instead point it to the value stored in the registry. It's basically just sloppy work on their end.
Edit: Well, even though I did not end up playing, I think my little find definitely helped with their beta testing. Let's hope they implement this before launch. It's the trollish version of "this game sucks".
I was giving the poster the benefit of the doubt.
Probably Hackshield doesn't like it. That application is looking for any evidence of tampering whatsoever, so if you do something it isn't expecting, it assumes you are a hacker.
What's more interesting is that you got zero help from their support team other than go look at our troubleshooting page and that's it. Says to me they have a bare bones team working on this... in other words, if there is a bug, XLGames better find and fix it for them or it's likely to remain for a very long time.
