Think they do have an IP problem when creating a new MMO. Starcraft and Diablo arent really RPG MMO compatible and starting a new IP for an MMO is a big risk. Think they have to start a new RTS series.

Diablo might be tough, but I don't see a huge problem with Starcraft. It is "just" warcraft in futuristic setting isn't it ? So build some stories and personalize the races shouldn't be that hard. Besides I am guessing it will not be a mmorpg in the traditional sense, it will be closer related to a rts/builder game based on pvp conflicts, just with mmorpg parts mixed in - Therefore it does not need as strong a history and world to be valid. Heh hard to say but guessing is fun.
Originally posted by Velonius650 A lot of us got pulled into WoW because of the success of the rts games and the lore they built. To jump right into WoW 2 would be crazy. Instead they'd need at minimum to make a WC 4 rts game to generate interest for an mmo sequel. Otherwise WoW 2 would be even more of the same old as it already appeals to a wide variety of theme park goers.
How does WC4 exist along side WOW? Would they introduce lore and plots in WC4 and ignore it in WOW?
Pretty tricky, but I'd love to see a WC4 even if it was for lore already covered in WOW.

Well its warcraft x100 because of the space element. No races besides the different factions. No planets with a population of 2 groups.
That's a paragraph of "we haven't got a clue." They may try someday but no one even knows where to begin.
nah .. i think they know better than anyone else. D3 sold 20M copies, RoS is the best selling PC game, Hearthstone is a big success ... they have more consistent success in the gaming market than anyone else.
The paragraph is instead saying .. we don't think there is a future for wow-type classical MMORPGs, don't you see, we are making other types of games now.
Both.
They either don't have a clue how to make another WoW or have decided the market simply won't support a new sub based game and the safe option - financially - is to keep WoW going as long as possible, spending as little as possible whilst doing so. And the future involves new games: Hearthstone, Destiny (via Bungie), etc.
Hearthstone is not "safe" .. they haven't done a card game before. Even their new MOBA is new for them (despite the first was based on SC).
It is less about Blizz taking the safe option than they don't think classical MMO is the future anymore. And they know the market very well.

nah ... Diablo is fine as it is. I don't see how many it a MMO will make the game more fun. I would much rather run different game modes (and they do have great ones .... rift & greater rifts are fun), and if you want to keep the instanced dungeons, why bother with a MMO?
Originally posted by Pepeq The only thing WoW has going for it these days is the fact that people who have played the game for a very long time are vested in their characters. Any new game, including the vaporware known as Titan, wouldn't have that foothold to keep players playing it beyond the initial 30 days/content consumption. It's why WoW 2.0 and Titan aren't even on the horizon... they dare not lose what players they have now.
Ehh? so you mean only WOW is the MMO where people feel vested in their character? what about EQ? EQ2? DAOC? there are plenty of old games where people feel vested in their characters.
To make it sound that it is something only working for WOW is silly. Give credit where credit is due , WOW has lot of things going for it that is why it is still the king. Love ow people always try to trivialise WOW's success.
I never said any such thing... read it again... and keep in mind the topic of this thread is "Blizzard Considers World of Warcraft 2".... so we're not talking about other games to start off with... so you made a pretty large leap all on your very own. It's like running for a touchdown when you haven't even been thrown the ball. Impressive. You scored nothing.
