I became interested in Eldevin mainly for the crafting which on the surface seems deep and interesting. After some time it becomes apparent that the mechanism is hopelessly out of tune. Originally I tried the game last December and was shocked to find that the cost of crafting ingredients that must be bought from the NPC is much more than the selling price of the crafted item so you lose a lot of money crafting. It was so severe you couldn't afford to upgrade skills if you craft.

So just lately I tried and the above was fixed. Now you only lose a little money crafting. However again it seems nobody is play testing the game. There are pairs of crafting/gathering skills such as leathercraft/skinning, armorsmith/mining, etc. As they have currently designed it the gathering skill levels 10x faster than the crafting skill. The reason is material reduction. 3 skins/hides make one finished leather and 5-14 finished leather make one piece of leather armor. You level the skinning while skinning animals then level it some more when you convert the skins and hides to finished leather. Only the last step making leather armor gives any leathercraft skill. So you see where this is going: your maxed out on the skinning for a long time while trying to catch up the leathercraft. What for - why do this? Why not give leathercraft skill for finishing the leather?

Then we have the click to move and topdown camera angle. Recently they created a new camera that gives a horizontal view like nearly every other MMO. Unfortunately the new camera is nearly unusable because they failed to implement a camera that follows the facing of the player. So you click to move and the character changes direction but the camera continues facing the wrong way. So you must constantly mouse rotate the camera as you click to move the character and the client lags as you do it. OG no... no... NO.

umm there is WASD movement and full camera controls with the keyboard, as for the crafting/gathering yes its slightly off it does however create excess for players to sell to other players who are unwilling to train professions but need supplies for quests.

The controls any way you prefer to use them are substandard because the camera does not follow the facing of the character and so must be micromanaged. This combined with lag irritates players who get a better interface almost anywhere else.

The crafting fails to entertain a large percentage of the player base because it is tedious and not worth doing. If most people don't play the crafting then for them there is no crafting and it is a lesser game. Creating a temptation for a small group of obsessive compulsives to make money by torturing themselves is not a virtue.

I actually want to like the game. I want to level several professions that are useful to the character while leveling a character. I would pay to play the game if it offered a varied and interesting experience with PVE content, PVP zones, and crafting. Perhaps someone thought if they made the crafting tedious people would play a long time. Wrong. They play until tired and disappointed, never pay a cent, and then go play something better.

Look at the current server pop and know the truth of it.
