WE'RE IN TESTING!

Hello ToA Fans!

We are extremely excited to share what's been going on and it is all thanks to our wonderful backers that believe in us and the potential of ToA. Thank you all so much!

We've been very hush-hush about it but we've been testing our upcoming demo for about a month now! Our testers can't talk about it (darn NDA) but we sure can!

Just over a month ago, we invited our champions, heroes and legends to join us in our first-ever test. We had over 20 people plus staff running around hacking on each other and exploring the small but beautiful area we built. It was a great success with few bug reports and many laughs! We're about a week away from our next much larger test, which will include a ton of new functionality.

Speaking of functionality....

WE'VE BEEN BUSY!

Since last time we gave a status report, we've accomplished a ton!

Account Creation: Now testers will create an account that will persist through their various log ins. This of course also means log in validation has been implemented.

Network Tests: During our first test, we had about 25 people logged in from around the globe.

For the most part, everything went very smoothly considering we hadn't optimized much at the time. A few expressed lag issues and we asked them to send us log files for analysis. Our next test will include 60-70 people and we suspect things will go just as smoothly.

Naming: Our naming system has been implemented. You can now name others whatever you want and it will be remembered.

Combat Enhancements: Combat continues to get improved with more precise collision detection, improved animations, etc. If you don't know, ToA combat allows you to equip a weapon or shield in each hand in any combination and you control those hands individually. It's an incredibly fun system that allows you to adopt the fighting style that suits you best.

Unarmed Combat: No longer do you need weapons to smite your enemy! Drop steel and use good old fashioned fist-to-face tactics!

Death: It's kind of odd that a game with perma-death as a cornerstone allowed our first testers to not die. That has been addressed. Now they will die in all the glory we designed the game around!

Second Set Of Weapon Slots: You can equip a pair of weapons/shields in your primary slots and, while not in combat, they will rest on your back. Now there is a second pair of slots that you can put in a third and fourth weapon/shield, and you can easily toggle between them. The second set hangs off your hips.

Evading: You can now double-tap your movements keys and do a quick dive in that direction.

Inventory: We have a full-on inventory system in place, including tabs for various bags you can equip (at the cost of those weapon slots).

Dropped Items: You can drop items in the world and they will be there for others to see and interact with. It's kind of funny how few of today's MMOs allow for what we see as an essential system.

Chat: We've implemented a chat system along with chat that appears over character's heads.

Dynamic Spawning - Networked: We showed off dynamic spawning some time ago, but now it's networked! That means in the upcoming tests, the testers will get to experience flora growth firsthand!

New Demo Area: We've created a new place for our tests to take place, called Demo Island. We've posted a few screenshots in our screenshot section to show off what we feel is an improvement on the graphic quality of the game.

AND WE'RE NOT STOPPING!

Work continues at a break-neck pace! We are currently working on:

  • Implementing harvesting and crafting (you can see our crafter teaser if you're a backer!).
  • Creating flora that complies with our dynamic spawning system.
  • Creating the magical effect that will allow us to show off the magic system and its power.
  • Refining the account and game item databases.
  • GUI work is in full swing. (here's a sneak peak of the condition panel)image
  • Creating various graphical and textual assets for the game, Kickstarter video, and Kickstarter updates.
  • Copious amounts of lore being written.
