Looking for a grinder

PixelPandaPixelPanda Member Posts: 35

I am playing neverwinter with a friend right now, pretty Fun game but now i am searching for something in between and to relax, for me that means something grindy. Best would be something recent with good geaphics. Is there something like this out there between all this quest hub games and storylines?

I hope you can help me to find what I am searching for :-)

What the hell is a grinder?

Don't quest lines just lead you to mobs to grind?  And if you don't want to do the quests then just stand and grind the mobs.  Really what is it you are looking for that isn't out there?

I know Ryzom might have been something like you ask for.  When I played it seemed all you did was go out and grind mobs to get stuff to craft with.    But no up to date graphics there.

Just confused as to exactly what a grinder is.  Do you have any examples?

hm dont know about any "recent grinder with good graphics", if you would omit that requirement, i would suggest Istaria.

OP, the problem with the word grinder is that it has changed over the years for a newer generation. When you say grinder, more people will think of either leveling via quests and/or doing dungeons to level up, versus the old days of going to a spot and killing mobs 10-15 levels at a time. Now Tera, you can kinda do that via leveling off of BAMs, where you kill big monsters for decent amounts of exp or you can solo dungeon mobs as well, honestly depends on your class, but its a pretty good duo game all the way to cap too with a healer and dps or whatever ranged/melee combination tbh. Graphics are very good as well, so you might want to give it a go.

Not too sure of many recent games where you can feasibly grind mobs. Lineage 2 perhaps?

I know it's possible in TERA. It's like 1-10 tutorial zone, then 10-13 boars, 13-20 hyenas, then finish all your first dungeon quests to 23, then dungeon/BAM grinding to 32, etc. etc. etc.

Can't think of anything else that allows for grinding as a reasonable means to level.

    diablo 3

not an mmo but it's as close as you are gonna get to a recent mindless grinder. you can try POE too but i personally prefer D3.

There are plenty of traditional grinders out there, they are mostly from eastern developers however.

Aion still has a pretty good grind, similarly C9 is pretty grindy.

L2 has good graphics and is the grindiest MMO I've ever played.  And you lose xp on death which can wipe out weeks of grinding at high levels.

Level                                        Total XP                              XP before level

I think I will settle down with either Path of Exile or Diablo 3, any recommendations?

Is one of them better than the other one or should I avoid one of them?

Diablo 3 + RoS obviously isn't free to play, while PoE is. D3 has better/flashier combat. PoE has more in-depth customization with it's massive passives tree and numerous different gems you slot into your gear that give you your abilities. PoE also has an economy, where as everything in D3 is bound to you and cannot be traded or given or away or anything. D3 is very easy to jump into, where as PoE can be a bit slow when starting out, especially your first time.

PoE does have one (minor perhaps) thing that bothers me. It's that the camera is too close. Even when zoomed out all the way, I feel like my character takes up too much of the screen compared to any other aRPG.

They're both great though IMHO. D3 has a free trial I believe through half of act 1, and PoE is F2P so nothing to lose by trying it.

That said, Marvel Heroes is MY JAM right now for aRPG goodness. You don't get to change the way your hero looks (unless you buy costumes) but there is A TON of different gear and accessories to find. You also can unlock heroes for free just by playing. Every couple of minutes an 'Eternity Splinter' drops. 175 of those gives you a random hero unlock box. Then for specific heroes they go for 200-600 IIRC. I've received Thing (my pick when first starting, which wasn't a great idea, because Thing is kinda boring), Cable, Wolverine, Daredevil, and Human Torch, all for free just by playing. All characters have 3 skill trees, then there's omega points, and hero synergies, as well as team-up buddies. So a fair bit of character customization.

Also, I recently found out that you can grind mobs in ESO and level just as fast (if not faster) as you would from questing. It's like, starting zones 1-8, then zombies 8-18, ogres 18-26, etc. etc. etc. It can get pretty boring, but hey if you like that stuff, then there ya go.

Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.

like i said, i personally prefer D3 especially now with ROS. but POE is F2P and still pretty decent IMO.

Each game has it's pros/cons but if you like more grind PoE is a much better game. The passive skill tree will also make you shit your pants when you see it for the first time and the customization is nearly limitless with the things you can do. For example, My first Ranger I've ever made was a 2-handed Sword Ranger who was also a tank because I went for full evasion and then chose a passive that converted all my evasion into armor.

Diablo 3 doesn't have the customization in terms of characters and it's quiet limited in progression. The only real grind that D3 brings to the table is gear and you'll hit that quite soon after level 60.

Path of Exile is constantly updated for free while Diablo 3 requires you to pay for new expansions.

I personally also think Path of Exile is harder when comparing the two games.

However, Path of Exile has a desync issue that has to do with their game engine. They're unable to fix it. So Diablo 3 is a much more stable game.

just curious, have you played ROS?

Do you want to see a real grinder?

This is a grinding game I play on and off. It's called Angels Online.

    http://angels.wikidot.com/directory:leveling

Max level requires 766.236.718.147 exp in total. I believe my character is like level 115. I will warn you, this is a real grinding game. There are "hell levels" similar to classic Everquest in the game. for examply 90-100 in Angels Online will take 1-2 weeks or maybe a month depends on how dedicated you are.

You also aren't only leveling your character in this game. You'll level your pet and your own skills.

FLYFF Online is also another grinding game. It's has more grind than Lineage but has less grind than Angels Online. about 550,000,000,000 less exp to grind.

bah, thats still nothing - aardwolf mud has more or less no cap on level (resp you remort any time you reach 201) and current highest level achieved is 74571 :)
