So in the past few weeks I've noticed that my drive to play the main MMORPG I've been playing has come to a stand still. I normally am always on FFXIV: ARR. Even if I was afk or just gathering or doing something random like RP'ing .. really just anything I was always on. Now I find that I don't really feel like logging in. Just blew about 6 million in gil in game to try and max out the gear on one of my crafting professions only to have nothing to show for it at the end of the day. I love crafting and gathering if I am honest. Normally if I was not raiding that was what I was doing in my free time. In FFXIV: ARR I admit that I am not overly fond of their system, be it from the overly long rotation requited to craft things or the fact that getting the craft to 50 means little to nothing (or that is how it feels to me anymore with there being 2 and 3 star items that I am no where near crafting). That being said I'm not complaining about the game but I feel I have no real drive to log in let alone play. I use to think that I could get through the game's content sooner or later. Recently no matter the content it's been one fail group after another. I'm sure that's not helping my motivation to get on.
I'm not considered hardcore anymore by any means. Two kids prevent me from putting in a lot of the longer hours required for raids (least of all during peak raid times). I do need to find a new Free Company in FFXIV: ARR though.. the one I am in hardly encourages me to get on when there are only three of us active.
Of course going back to the title and explaining that after my little rant/trying to explain my present feelings.. I either want or need to find a new MMORPG to play or some way to rekindle my reasoning to play FF again. I've tried or at least tested out a rather large number of MMO's and never stuck with many for long. So for the past three days or so I haven't even logged into FF to be honest. I have been playing Archeage and even without getting to level 10 I've found the classes fun and it was easy enough to pick up and play. My husband complains of lag or something so I'm not sure if that is a issue with all the servers or we just picked a bad one.
Ok now.. what I am looking for: Probably mainly pve. It can be a pvp game but I tend to afk a lot during the day due to the two little ones so try to keep that in mind. As I stated I enjoy crafting and gathering. Not really a requirement but I find both enjoyable if the system isn't over complex and I don't require a spreadsheet to use it. I like social.. too many mmo's now a days feel so antisocial. My main draw to FF was that it sorta forces you to group for a lot of things. Not that this makes for a good game or players but it was one of the draws. Um not sure what else to put here.. i mean a minor detail is I love cosmetics. Not really cash show driven ones but things you can get in game. Like mounts, mini pets. Maybe even certain outfits or armor.
Ok that was more long winded than I though.. >-< sorry~!

Give Star Wars: The Old Republic a try. It's a great game for a more casual PvE experience, with cool storylines (all fully voice acted, so one step up from FFXIV's which reserve voice acting for the most important quests).
The recent addition of housing has given crafters a lot to do again. And there's a huge range of cosmetics around. Many of them are originally from the cash shop, but you can get those with in game money on the GTN where players sell them all the time (Auction House).
You can look up the outfits here: http://tor-fashion.com/
There's a bunch of mounts too, ranging from rideable beasts to sleek looking speeders. And a ton of pets to collect.

it is proly strange suggestion, since it is not a classic mmorpg, but try Therian saga - it is great in the regard that you can spend a lot of time on it (doing dungeons) or just set up queue and be done for a day in couple minutes.
It's a sandbox browser based multiplayer game with a lot of crafting, harvesting and exploring.

I had tried Star Wars before. Did they fix the lag issue? Last time I tired it (some time ago) it was almost unplayable. I know it wasn't my connection or machine because I didn't have any issues with any other games I was play at that time. Once I install this new SSD I might download it again. I had heard about the mounts and such. Have a friend who brags to me all the time on the updates.
Also I'm ok on off the wall or strange mentions ^^ Nothing against browser games so long as they aren't pay to win.
Dungeons and Dragons Online is a good game if you like to group as you can run all dungeons on elite difficulty which usually requires you to be grouped (or over-leveled) but the nice thing about it is that you can also run most of the content solo at an easier difficulty level so it is very flexible in that way. The crafting system is also interesting and deep (although regrettably more a cool mini-game than something that is actually terribly *useful* to get gear.)
The game is pretty restrictive in its free mode but you can unlocks for most things with one-time fees which is often cheaper than subbing if you plan to play for more than a few months and take advantage of one of their seasonal sales (the other option being to sub for about $10 a month which also gives you some monthly points to spend in the shop) .
Other things to keep in mind is it's an older game, and while I find the artstyle beautiful, the graphics definitely look their age. Also the game is heavily instanced with only the main city really feeling like a typical open-world MMO and that turns some people off.
But I am fussy about MMOs and it has so far managed to hold my interest for over 6 months so that's something
I think you would enjoy Achaea, especially if you made a hunter/gatherer character like a Druid in the Eleusis faction. Good PvE, a crafting/harvesting skill, and Eleusis is a pretty social faction in-game.
It's hard to say, I never had the issue. I've heard from some people that have come back that they left because of the same issue you mentioned, and that it was gone for them now. You'll have to check sometime whether it's gone for you as well. The game's free anyway, so you could just let it download over night some time and check the next day whether it's playable or not. ^^
And yeah, they do add a lot of mounts. You can even run around on an Orobird if you miss the Final Fantasy chocobos. xD

Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

iridescence - I have in the past played DnD online. It was fairly enjoyable to be honest. I remember I hated having a few of the races/classes locked but seeing it was free to play I didn't really hold that against it. I think last I played (years ago) I got to around level 20. Didn't touch crafting if I remember and I sorta stopped playing when my friends left it. but I'll add it to my list of trying again. I'm sure they've had a ton of updates by now. Also graphics don't play a huge role in what I play. Considering one of my fave games is still a SNES game.. I would like stories to be engaging.
Azaron_Nightbl - Yeah I'll get to trying t again this weekend. Need to put that new drive in my computer first. This ones on it's last leg after all of these years. Also.. I doubt I would miss the giant chickens. It was cute at first but my last goal in FF was to get the pvp warhorse so.. besides the last patch with adding dyes to the chocobo is a bit of a eyesore.
rensta - my only thing against archeage at the moment is it's in beta still.. and that just ended. Plus people seem to say you can't do anything crafting wise endgame unless you sub. Seeing as my husband is probably getting hooked into D3 again if we un-sub from FF I doubt I could talk him into subbing for a game he doesn't play. Plus saving money is always good if there is a way to do it
