I understand the idea of the original article. Still disagree with it. I buy 90% of my games on 75%+ discount because there are few games I need to play on release. I am more likely to drop $20 dollars on a cheap or free to play game to pick up extra stuff that I keep unlike Ghost Recon Phantoms that I will not pay anything for.
I think the gaming community just has more ability to find information about the games they want and more people wait unless the game is needed by them. I want to play the new Civilization that is upcoming but will likely wait for a Steam GotY edition. There is no reason for me to buy it at first or full price. Curious about Unity but I don't trust Ubisoft enough to want to pay full price for anything they release. I would actually get Beyond Earth earlier if I had a friend who wanted me to play with them. Ubisoft game of anything and I would go that I am waiting.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
