Frogdice is, in many ways, the Little Engine That Could. It's a company that has set a standard for itself and has maintained that standard by successfully funding and deliveringtwo previous titles. Not ready to hang it up and revel in that astonishing record, Frogdice is attempting a trifecta of games with its newest Kickstarter project to fun Stash, a turn-based RPG that seeks to bring some of the best features from RPGs of yore to the modern generation.

A basic old school grid game but does seem to be trying to put more depth into it than what i usually see.It does typically look like an Indie project but again seems to be putting some effort into a low budget game.
Played EQ2 and had tons of loot as well but 99% useless which kept me hours a day emptying my loot bags.
I know it says tons of spells and abilities i want to see this turn based combat ,i need to see depth in the combat.Example player>player combos, elemental properties that do matter for both player and npc ect ect.
I want to think about my choice, for example i don't want to simply equip the weapon with best stats and that is all the thinking i do.Example i want to see a Water Elemental fight where i need to use perhaps a Freeze spell or Wind spell to damage it more efficiently.I would also need an Ice or Wind based weapon to damage a Water based creature, see where i am going?
I need that type of depth if i am going to be playing aged textures/graphics/models.

sunandshadow: I'm one of the developers. I'd be happy to explain further. I'm not sure I completely understand your question? I will give it a shot:
1) Every participant in combat gets an initiative roll and that sets the order of who goes when.
2) When it is someone's turn, they get a move and an action. The action can be an attack, ability, item use, etc.
3) You can also pass, delay, and a bunch of other tactical stuff.
That's the super basic flow of combat. I am planning to put up a very detailed combat update soon - possibly as a dev diary here.
I am looking forward to this game. As a long-time player of Frogdice games, I know what quality goes into the making of their games. Having a house to "play" in will be fun, and crafting is always a plus!
I backed Stash and look forward to playing it!
It is a true MMO. You cannot play it single player, but you *CAN* play it solo.
It has a persistent world, economy, marketplace (auction house type thing), and all the various MMO-ish features you would expect. Staff run world events are a very major part of the game, and player actions will be able to change the world significantly over time.
Re: races: We wrote an update all about races. It explains the ones we will have at launch as well as some of the races we will add later:

The whole notion of player run towns intrigues me. I've seen that in other MMOs and if it's done right it gives a lot of autonomy to the players and creates fun scenarios between various factions.
I think the turn-based idea isn't just bringing back the best of the 90s. Everyone who plays an MMO heavily is already methodically doing the math on where to go, what to get, how to configure their characters. Turn-based combat will play into that for a lot of people.
I backed stash. i'm gonna play stash. It looks good!
I've backed the game, looking forward to it ;D
wow ... so many commenters overflowing with praise who just made an account here yesterday.
wonder why? >.<
other than that, the game looks interesting and i'm glad mmorpg.com is putting it in their review schedul.
"There are at least two kinds of games.
One could be called finite, the other infinite.
A finite game is played for the purpose of winning,
an infinite game for the purpose of continuing play."

Oh that one looks nice. That could be just the right game at the right time with the right business model for me.
I'd be really happy if Kickstarter game projects finally start delivering again. I have been burned too many times in the past. Well those last so called triple-A MMOs wasn't that great either.
Looking at what Frogdice did with their Threshold RPG - heavens! running a MUD for more than 18 years IS an achievement - I'm on the verge of being super excited what that could mean for Stash.
Been a part of mmorpg for a long... long time. Haven't made too many comments though. I think I should probably start doing so haha. Well, to be honest I've been jonsing for some turn based combat action. The pushing for realistic action based combat hasn't been working really well for me sadly.
I'm always nervous at the new mmo's and their thoughts because the concept is just so broad, I will have to see what the strengths are in this game over playing some others. I'm looking forward to the beta to check it out.
(backer on kickstarter btw)

That answered my question pretty well. I was mainly just wondering whether it was tactical or active battle system or 3 person adventuring party on one side and monsters on the other side, or what. And I think that that distinction absolutely should have been in the review here, because the specific type of combat is such a basic and important thing when describing a new game to a potential player.
