Assuming a 4-day head start, what is a good strategy for being able to claim land for a house and farm as soon as possible? (Edit: Also, how about deciding which server to choose?)
Are there enough housing areas for early access people to make a land claim?

Not surprising really, a player driven game with minimal cap to everything that can be gained. nobody wants to give up their knowledge for free. but i will suggest you try official forums. there are some guides there but not so in depth but still something is better than nothing.

My naivete does not bode well. I will probably be eaten alive. But will check forums.
Rush-complete quests up to level....15ish, I think is the need for getting a basic farm. As for HOUSE, I'm not sure (never got as high). Try to gain a plot somewhere quite near the airship towers, as those are key for PACK trading routes and getting back to your plot quickly when in different zones. Beware of the sudo-guilds that try to take all the plots in one housing district to basically own the land. Those guys are real ....um, let's just say there's a word for them.
Do the quests until at least level 20, but do your scarecrow quest first. plant your scarecrow as soon as you can, and plant the right crops early as you can. Use public farms if possible. You can claim a lot after you receive a house design, so get a design as soon as you can afford it. Look for a zone you would like your home, and search around for protected housing developments.
