Dude, everybody and their momma's is going to say Destiny over Defiance. Don't get me wrong though, ive played Defiance since release but Destiny has far too much hype. If you have a pc I would recommend firefall over defiance anyways.
I just went and browsed the official Bungie Destiny forums and quickly remembered why I cancelled my Xbox Live sub years ago. Who would want to be confined to playing with that hot mess of a console community.

Most of the People trolling there aren't even playing. No different than the average MMO community these days.
Just click on most of those troll accounts. They don't even have a Destiny character at all.
Ingame however, I have run around doing my stuff, died a few times and People came from everywhere rushing in to help and revive you. So far I have nothing to complain really.

Quickly glancing the trailers for Destiny, it seems to very similar to Defiance?
No. One is a MMO the other is a coop shooter.
You mean Destiny is an MMO and Defiance a Coop shooter? Heh.
Both have limitations on amount of players per map instance. Then there is the little tiny fact that Destiny has at least 4 times total gameworld size than Defiance. It's what I always hated and number one letdown for many People I played With in Defiance, it's the small world size. /Shrug

It's hard to really call Defiance more of an MMO. Technically the instancing of the open world is really the same thing Destiny is doing, and usually there doesn't seem to be very many people in your phase on Defiance anyways. Yes the Arkfalls will be more populated, but so will the big events on Destiny too.
I used to hate instancing as much as anybody, but seeing a few people out in the world with me usually does feel better than seeing 100+ people all trying to kill the same things I am and zerging the entire zone.

Well that's always nice to hear.
Don't get me wrong, I probably going to run into some A-holes too. Inevitable in Online gaming. But that isn't any different than our today's MMO climate.

No. One is a MMO the other is a coop shooter.
Neither one is an MMO. You can't MMO on a console. lol..
Really now. Then why am I playing both DCUO and FFXIV:ARR on my PS4?
DCUO was a console port to PC. A Miserable one at that. Ruined the potential for great PC UI/Gameplay.
Look at the amount of players on your screen and the limitations of the UI / Mechanics. They're far from an actual MMO.
Really now? Crippled game is crippled because Console. You're missing out on hundreds maybe thousands of mechanics, features that COULD BE implemented if a console could, but wouldn't.
People believe what they want to , regardless of what is in their face. They threw hundreds of dollars and it's IMPOSSIBLE they're ignorant or they just don't want to feel like they wasted $500.

Destiny's maps are open world, when you enter them in exploration mode.
And one single map in Destiny is just as large as the entire Defiance map and more interesting too. And Destiny has 4 of them.
So basically 4 times the landmass of Defiance, which they going to expand on in future expansions.
All TRION did With Defiance is now more than a year later add a tiny extremely buggy map extension with the recent update. The game is just not expanding at all.
Defiance has also turned into one big cash grab! I had a great time in Defiance and played it time to time, until Dick Trempsy got into the door at TRION and started messing with their games and cash shops. /facepalm

I played DCUO both on PC and now on PS4. The game is doing extremely well still.
You completely ignore me mentioning FFXIV? Going to call that game a bad console port too? With over 1 million people playing world wide every day? The Controller scheme is very intuitive and impressive. I have 3 hotbars times 8 skills mapped currently and could map even more hotbars if I wanted to.
Also for what I read, Destiny is instanced. You group in a loby like GW1, or DDO. Then go with that group to an instanced mission. In that mechanic is very easy to keep a high FPS, because you have control on the amount of models and textures loaded in the system.
Not true. That's only for the Strikes, RAID, PVP and if you team up for Story missions and enter the story instance at the end of each mission for last objective.
When you enter each map in Exploration mode, it's basically Open World and you just run into other players everywhere.

Again. False. Defiance is the OPPOSITE of an MMO.
Defiance was falsely marketed as an MMO to gain "Hype" like Destiny did.
REAL MMOs:
WoW
Wildstar
guildwars
DaOC
FF
The Secret World
ArcheAge
etc..

You guys really need to learn this. Someday.
Guild Wars is a competitive online role-playing game series developed by ArenaNet and published by NCsoft. Because it deviated from traditional MMORPG norms in a number of areas, like instancing all the gameplay areas, and that it focused more on player vs. player (PvP) than most online RPGs, it was marketed as competitive online role-playing game.[1] It provides two main modes of gameplay—a cooperative role-playing component and a competitive PvP component—both of which are hosted on ArenaNet's servers. Three stand-alone episodes, one majorexpansion pack, and several "mini"-expansions were released in the series from April 2005 to April 2013.
If you're going to be a know it all....you should try being right first.
Quickly glancing the trailers for Destiny, it seems to very similar to Defiance?
Not the same genre. And if you're waiting for this on PC via crappy rumors, you're wasting your time, it's not releasing on PC. It's a console exclusive which is proving to be quite worth while, next gen console sales have sky rocketed in the past couple of days, only because of Destiny.

Before making absolute statements with no sources I'd suggest you actually read the developers actual words and use your amazing intelligence to read between the lines. It is PC bound, they are withholding announcement, exactly like they have with other "console exclusives."
They can't talk about it, plain and simple. It's contracts and lawyers no more. They said they can neither confirm nor deny... Those of us that have been around know exactly what that means.

you are the one needing some learning here. See the common denominator? all the games you mentioned are mmoRPG.... not mmoFPS, but RPG....
R...P...G....
Do not compare mmofps with mmorpg. Is Destiny an mmofps? probably not, i think coop fits more than mmo here. But Defiance is an mmo shooter.
Go home with your PC Master Race nonsense. A good PC Its more powerful, obviously, but if it was really a master race it would have every single game out there available, regardless of console exclusivity. Now chill, your next favorite game will release on PC, maybe next year.
Defiance just seemes a bit rushed ... something has always seemed a bit off. The quality of Destiny just overshadows Defiance in every way. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Defiance and still hope that it can truly find success but in comparison, it's not even a race at this point.
Not even a fanboi, but Destiny. Defiance feels like a game that would have been released in 2004. It's horribly unpolished and uninteresting. I really tried to play it but couldn't. Destiny isn't everything I had hoped but it's lightyears beyond Defiance.
