Title is from the September Game Informer. As well as these statements..
" Developer Jake Song of Lineage fame is realizing his vision of a game that combines traditional MMO aspects such as dungeon crawling and leveling, with a sandbox-style world. Players can choose which style of gameplay syncs up with their preferences and engage in massive scale competitive multi-player, single player exploration and farming, or guild centric crafting and sieging,"
I'm just wondering how accurate said words are? As they seem to be saying it's for everyone, rather than the message you hear here.

...until they run out of labor points and are funneled into the cash shop to buy more potions to play how they want.
Even if they are paying a sub.
And what does "sandbox style world" actually mean?
Nothing.
Just an unquantifiable marketing term to make linear leveling sound better.
Nah that's just what will be left in your wallet after playing a few months..sand..

Two things, and two things only, have to change in order for me to play. Back in Alpha the Archeum was all gotten from drops. At launch, about 99% of all Archeum is gotten from the cash shop. For those that don't know, Archeum is used in all the best crafts. Second is Labor Points Potions. I have no problem with them really, but it gives an advantage that you have to pay extra for, EVEN if you are a paying subscriber. If I'm paying a subscription, I really don't think I should be limited in the loot, crafting, land, any and every action other than combat in a game.
First, make Archeum drop from mobs again, even if it's like 50/50 drop/cash shop, that's fine with me. Second, let subscribers have unlimited Labor Points, or every 4 hours give them Labor Points equal to a Labor Point Potion. These two things are the ONLY two things that keep me away form this game. Yet another great game, ruined by the F2P money-grab scheme.
That sounds good to me.

"Ah, uhm, it's not a reeeeal sandbox, y'know, it's more like the usual maps without loading screens between zones and some plots where you can build things?"
At least while leveling to ~35, for me it felt pretty standard. Questing and all. Great game, will play, but, yeah. Asian MMO.
When we (the players) hear the word sandbox, we picture a huge world full of possibilities and freedom to be creative.
When they (game makers) hear the word sandbox, they picture a huge world full of possibilities to take away that freedom and creativity with milking practices. And in AA´s case, payment model is irrelevant.
Are there Dungeons in this game?
Can one "dungeon crawl"?
I haven't come across those yet if there are.

I just don't understand why the F2P model is so different than Rift's model. Rift's is the model example of F2P done right.
I defended the Labor Potions on the cash shop, just a usual boost. But I can't defend the cash-shop only archeum, what a terrible decision...
Lately I have just been seeing greed, greed, greed in the MMO industry. Why? These people make games and they are greedy as all hell. Games are supposed to be fun!
I wish I could enjoy MOBAs but I find them repetitive and boring. I am ok at LoL and definitely above-average on Smite. But to me these games are impersonal and playing different champions that I didn't design and there is no progression... gah. Why is just MMOs that have all the money-hungry barons in charge!

Scapes said they increased the drop rate a little. Plus I had archeum dropping from mobs in open beta so I don't know where you are getting that it's exclusive to the cash shop. Only thing in the cash shop is a random chance to get some to drop out of a loot box.
If it's anything like in Rift, it's a gamble with very low drop rates and not worth your money.
YEah I haven't heard much at all about dungeons in regard to AA. Nice catch lol.

I agree with all of your points, at least from an observation level, will DL friday to see just how the game plays for myself. I don't like the sound of their monetization model at all though. Right now that's the most detrimental factor for me.

People are opening 200 purses and not getting any archeum at all. I think this will probably increase at launch a bit, but considering how much Archeum is needed in crafting, it's going to be a high commodity. And those chests drop 3 archeum dusts each with a 20-30% on a crystal. It's not a whole lot, but it is definitely significant.
Granted you will be able to buy them on the AH even if they were purchased with Cash. so hopefully that entices some people to sell on the AH.

Good question.
I second that, or third that...whatever.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Yes, there are dungeons. I played the 1st one in Closed Beta. It's around level 15 i think. It was in some city where you go underground. The dungeons aren't that hard either, and the A.I. isn't that good, but that was only the first dungeon, so it's to be expected. Also, the group size is for 3 players.
Thank you, at least that is good news. Is it free to go in them? j/k
About the only thing I really see here about the game is the cash shop, LP, and the back and forth about it being a sandbox or not. I guess the cool stuff like dungeon exploring, underwater swimming, flying, mountain ranges, winter zones, and the basic mmorpg stuff doesn't really get asked.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
ArcheAge is a sandbox mmo even though its not as sandboxy as something like Wurm Online. I agree with what you said that ArcheAge is the step in the right direction. Lets see if Black Desert can continue this direction.
huh. I know what you are talking about though I didnt' really consider that a "dungeon". It was the sewer under the first city you come to.
well, here's hoping for something a bit larger later on.

In which case, that part under the city wasn't a dungeon as it seemed pretty "soloable".
But that's good that the dungeons require groups.

Yes there are dungeons. They're not really my thing but the first one on the Nuian side is Sharpwind Mines for level 18 and up. There are plenty of others for higher levels but I can't list them as I haven't bothered with them.

That's the first you come up with on the eastern side
