ArcheAge just died

LerxstLerxst Member UncommonPosts: 648

I'm sorry to have to break this to people, but this game just went tits up before it got out of the starting gate. The damage done to many is irreversible at this stage and the benefits gained by a few are overwhelming.

There's no feasible way for them to rebalance and restructure this game as it stands with this head start fiasco they created from the go. The game is all about crafting, all about a player-based economy. None of that is possible in its current release form. Three hour long queues prevented most people from being able to place land to craft on. Exploits in housing caused a small handful to claim huge plots at a time (equals more farm space, more resources, more crafting, more money, more gear, more experience). While thousands of people were queuing up due to account glitches, hundreds were already in game claiming everything they could.

This is not a balanced system and it doesn't create for a sustainable game when that game is supposed to be centered around a large player base. You can't hand out everything to a couple hundred people and throw the thousands of others scraps and expect them all to get along... or even play the game.

Mind you, these are not in-game mechanics people are failing to see. These problems were brought on by 3rd party technical issues (Trion) that physically prevented people from actually playing the game: Patron status not updated, preventing land placement. Authentication emails being delayed for hours. Sever queues created that allowed many to cut right to the front while, literally, thousands were waiting in line due to accounts that weren't registered as "Patrons".

This game is all about how far ahead you can get  compared to others; every little advantage counts. The same holds true for most Sandbox games. A Themepark can easily be fixed or forgiven if things don't go smoothly. A sandbox where players actually create the game they play can't just be "reset" if things don't go well at start.

Thousands of players who have paid upwards of $50 are getting the short end of the deal by Trion and the publisher has, as of yet, failed to address any of the major issues other than login servers going down.

In a few months this game might reemerge as a semi-successful free to play title, but as of now, it's dead in the water with no real hope of resuscitation. These things can't just be un-done and their solution of starting new, additional servers will only lead to an empty server population spread out over dozens of servers.

I hope you are wrong, as it would be very sad if the game died. I am very much looking forward to trying it, but I will wait until I hear some good buzz and positive recommendations. :)

Next week people will wonder why any of this seemed like a big deal. But today... EVERYTHING IS RUINED FOREVER!!!

Don't know where you are playing; but i'm playing on what's most likely the most populated server in AA (Kyprosa), with 95 registered guilds and who knows how many not registered. And east has still tons of land left.

Welcome to launches and this hardly killed the game.  People are just going apeshit over minor things.  People will always find ways to gain an advantage.  Be it exploiters, innovators, diligence, experts, it don't matter as people find ways to overcome things.  And if you think that this is the only time they will have new land for claim then you are a fool.

Have you actually played the game? Tradepacking? you need a farm. Want to sell resources? Need a farm. Want to level a craft? Need a farm. Without this, all that's left is questing and opening coin purses from mobs. It's "WoW Lite- 2014", not "ArcheAge- Craft. Claim. Conquer." as it's advertised.

LOL your avatar reminds me of people raging on SWTOR's launch and how it ruined their lives.

So what about the people who pick up the game next week?  Are you saying they shouldn't even bother because only the first few hundred who get in the game have everything?

Please tell us about this.  Please I need to know.  Help on this information is needed.

This game is like mmorpg crack. I haven't found a place to claim my own yet, can't even manage to farm up enough to make my trade runs... it's busy as hell and it's awesome. This game for me is about commune... community... communication... and I am loving every aspect of it.

look into my post history, i posted some screens of my char. And if you like farming so much AA wont satisfy you,  FarmVille 2: Country Escape will be much better choice.

This is the downside of all the free alpha/beta access: people know exactly what they have to do in the very first couple hours to get an edge on everything else.

At least in SWG, back in the day, there was so much buildable land available, that there was no possible way of there being a shortage.

But that does not seem to be the case here.

And, with all the server/acct problems that are inherent in game launches, why did they not delay the ability to claim land for a couple days, just to make sure everything was working, when the amount of land is so limited, and is so important to the gameplay?

Trion dropped the ball, looks like, and it is not as if they could not have seen this one coming.

Super over reaction. In a month when tons of people quit and land opens up like crazy this wont even be an issue. Not to mention land isn't the end all must win component of this game...

I'm planning on finding the nicest house and just moving in, solicitation at it's finest at the hot spots, I will be nothing more than a bum living off the government in game, and I would imagine I will do a lot of begging for free items too. Should be interesting to see what I can accomplish.

No, but it more or less is for the crafting side of the game,

Which is what a lot of people are playing this game for.

Yep, that was why I chose to stay with the Japanese version of the game hoping that they can remove (as they promise) as much of the 1.0 changes as possible so they game still works, sadly, I have seen the population continually drop off over the last month and there is still no announcement of when those changes are coming. By the time it does, the game will be a ghost town.

Everytime someone on these forums doesn't like something, it spells the doom of AA.  Everyone needs to step out of their little world and realize that there are more factors than just one or two that make a game.  They also need to realize that not everyone views the same bits as important as themselves.

There's land for the small farm everywhere. Just need to look and explore and work for it a bit. Re the houses, it does seem odd that some of the areas are not open yet or something but maybe they will be when Auroria opens up.

It's a PvP game with a very competitive player base, so it might be a disappointment that some people found an edge. But it shouldn't be a surprise.

On one hand, maybe they are hoping that wrestling with a Que will give players a reason to seek patron status.  On the other hand, they won't attract many new players if the best features of the game will be forever denied to them.  With the demand being such as it is, and large guilds already entrenched on their servers of choice, why not wait until the actual release of the game and see what, if any, new servers are offered?  Unfortunately, a game like this does require a certain amount of competition of resources to give value to the overall play experience- and first come, first serve is relatively easy to exploit.  I have to think that right now demand is sufficient for Trion to consider opening up new servers.

They will just tweak the taxs on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th + plots of land you own. Its already setup so that each addition plot of land you have the tax increases on it each week.

So they will just keep doubling it up until the problem fixs itself and people end up with 1 or 2 plots of land and thats it.

Thats not to mention that more land can easily be added via patchs from XLGames. But it is a balance you have to keep a eye on. There is no realistic way for EVERYONE to have a plot of land in a game where most of the world is not instanced.

When there are 6 servers and each has a queue of 2,000 people, you can figure that at least 10,000 paying customers are getting the short end of the deal. That's not even counting those who are already in the server.

One or two coming on and saying, "Hey I got my piece, TS for you." doesn't do anything for the business end of the 10,000+ paying customers who got nothing for their time and money.

In a few months, yep, the hype and the population will clear... but the game will be barren. The only people on will be the Free to Play accounts who will get disheartened by the few level 50 players who stuck around and rape them at every chance they get.

This game will essentially be the same piece of Free to Play trash that every other Free to Play game has turned into. At that point, yeah, maybe you'll find some land available. Good luck actually playing the game though.

ArcheAge - "Craft, Claim, Conquer" my left nut.

ya know if every "soul crushed" gamer out there committed suicide when a game had problems at launch instead of posting it to the forums of every website they can find wed have more bandwidth for other gamers lol.

though as whiny as some of these people get I would dread reading their suicide letter/rant.
