Star Citizen relies on insane monetary crowdfunding.

I wouldn't count star citizen. But in any case, with the huge success of Destiny (and also MOBA), i would bet AAA money is not going to new classical MMO anytime soon.

Me neither, I was just being generous heh

Not so sure about Destiny being so succesful, but that does not matter in short/medium run.  Companies are still gonna push CO-OP lobby PVE gaming such as Destiny in next few years, regardless if Destiny itself will be succesful or not.

    Are you kidding me?

It made $325M in the FIRST week. If you assume $60 a pop, we are talking about 5+M copies ...already better than life time sales of many games. If that is not success, what is? (Granted we are talking about financial success here).

It would be great if there are more co-op lobby pve games since i like them.

Some people are of opinion it will rather be hack&slash lobby game like Diablo 3,Grim Dawn or PoE, maybe with several public instanced zones(or/and battlegrounds) like in Marvel Heroes rather than a MMORPG.

Yes, that is my opinion too. I would love that if it is a Diablo type hack-n-slash lobby game. I wouldn't even mind some public zones (that is why i also play marvel heroes).

That game was nothing but hype. Anyone that can step back and releaize that game only provides about 3 weeks of content will see that. The game has got 6/10 from a a ton of sites.

I guess it just goes to show how much money hype makes you. I for one hope we do not get anymore games like destiny

Yet it made $325M in its first week. You don't have to like it (and i may not like it either) but you can't deny it sold well.

And what does 3 weeks of content have to do with quality?

Dishonored is a great game, and i finished it in less than 3 weeks. Ditto for Dead Space. Ditto for Bioshock.

Quantity (long play time) is not quality.

I am not saying Destiny is great for me (since I have not played it, and wont till the PC version comes out), but certainly it sold tons, and that moves the market.

I did not know they sold $325 mln worth of copies to actual customers.    I've only known older info about $500 mln worth of copies shipped to distributors, which I've ignored since it is much less important than actual done sales.

Anyway - yeah good sales so far with those $325 mln.

the sky could be falling or we could be in a part of the cycle where most major game companies have multiple mmos running and just haven't started advertising what they're working on yet.

I don't trust the sky. It hasn't fallen for a long time and I think it's due.

Yes, i ignore that $500M number too ... but this new $325M is nothing but a huge success. I haven't played the game, and I did hear that it is essentially "just" a co-op shooter with RPG elements .. but given it is a bungie game, it must have loads of polish and detailed content.

So I am waiting to try (when the PC version is out) before I decide if I like it or not.
