So all the labor point / housing / PvP whatever aspects aside...
Is the game worth looking into for the PvE, leveling, classes, instances, dungeons, raids, etc.?
um.
I really enjoy the classes and and even spent an entire evening researching and trying out different class builds.
Since you can gain xp for a variety of things, the leveling can be rather engaging if you "do a variety of things".
if you are in it for the engaging quests then I have to say that they are very much "go here kill/collect" x things sort of affair.
What I like about the quests is that you do get people grouping up more. Especially for some of the larger things.
The only "dungeon" I've done was very challenging for three people and we had to play smarter in order to complete it.
However, if you just want to "quest" and you hate "kill x" quests then you might be disappointed.
Is the XP gain comparable for say monster kills and crafting gathers etc. as it is to quests? To me that is always a good sign of a good sandboxy game - the ability to do whatever and still progress, like Skyrim for example.
UO was that way, but that was before quests become the thing to do. FFXI was pretty close too.
On the other hand, games like EvE, SWG, really failed in that regard tying everything to mission grinding.
1. Dedicated plots of land in open world is a really BAD idea.
2. This game boasts advancements but I saw very little of it. The npc's mouths barely move like we were in a 1990 video game. It's embarassing in an age where things like SWTOR has whole conversations between characters that feels totally real.

Personally, when I want to play a game I enjoy being able to actually play it and not spend a majority of my play time watching drawn out cinematics with poor NPC voice overs. If I want to watch a movie i make sure to turn on HBO. Different strokes for different folks, i guess.
Watched this game for years, then when tested in beta, found out there was no mouse invert option, so it's a no go for me, adding it later is not going to make a difference as will be so far behind the curve and zero chance of land. Pretty poor this day and age
And for the very poorly researched article, this game is almost 18 months old so hardly a new mmo.
Finished my first trading run today with my guild. we sailed across the ocean to Freedrich Island. We picked up a rowboater and a swimmer, figured extra protection and we can help them out as well. Fought off a few scoundrels upon arrival and turned in our packs, we all left a little richer than when we woke up. 10/10
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
ArchAge is not for everyone. It takes a certain type of personality to enjoy a game like this. It is a niche but it is a niche that has not be served in a very long time. Some of us in that niche have been waiting more than a decade for this type of MMO to be made. Not since Star Wars Galaxies has there been a triple A sandbox made where people could own non-instanced housing and farms. Hopefully they add in player owned taverns as well. In a way it is also kind of like EVE where you have to PvP to protect your properties and trade routes. Some people are herbivores who focus on the crafting and farming side of the game while others are carnivores (PvP) who pray on the herbivores. The balance between herbivores and carnivores needs to be balanced very carefully in this type of game. To many carnivores and the herbivores could get wiped out. But if the PvP rules are too restricting the herbivores become stagnated and there will be chronic land shortages. This is something they will have to monitor and adjust continuously.
Not interested in the slightest. I lost interest when they continued to claim it was F2P when it's clearly P2W model in which you even buy Gilda Stars direct from the store. Seriously, it's blatantly obvious no one took the time to properly look at the economic model.
I might consider it if they actually take up no tricks no traps and remove the PK rewards system they have in place where trolls are able to just do whatever they want without consequence.
You CANNOT buy Gilda Stars from the store..... I have no clue where you are getting your false information but it is JUST that..... The ONLY thing that you cannot do as F2P that you can as Patron is OWN land, yet you can still be part of a family that owns land or RENT land from someone who does own land and play the same as anyone else.

Basically you can sum up this game in two words, "Money Grab". Unless you have lots of money to throw into this game don't expect much of it.
Housing will be for those that have money to burn. You can bet it will be exactly like UO, people are sitting on plots and selling them on user websites.
You really have to wonder why developers keep making the same mistake over and over again.
Can't forget it's not a money grab if people willing give them money, The way to be a money grab when you have to buy this game to play and pay to keep playing, when it's open to all on the 16th.
You cant even buy anything in this game that gets you ahead of other players from the cash shop tbh... There are only slight increases to crafting time or increases to crafting xp. No actual xp buffs, or gear on the cash shop AT ALL. So to say this game is a cash grab or p2w just clearly shows that you did absolutely no research into it whatsoever.
I just wish they would open up more areas for housing... there are so many amazing locations that could potentially hold property, but they are empty... like totally devoid trees, rocks, bushes... anything..
Also, there shouldn't be areas that only allow certain types of houses. If you buy property, you should be able to build anything you want on it. And to stop people holding on to prime locations with just a scarecrow, make the tax significantly higher for premium locations..
Other than that, I do enjoy many aspects of the game.
I unfortunately paid $150 to play. Alpha was great even though I never found a spot to build a house or farm.
I will start by saying the head start was a debacle at best. I only get a few hour window a day to play and it's usually after 9:00pm once the kids go to bed. I was lucky to maybe get 6 hours of actual in game play time over the four days, and that was me staying up until 3:00AM. Sad thing was I probably sat in my chair or surfed the net while waiting to get through the login queue for 12 plus hours. The real fun was when you started at about number 800 and after about 1/2 hour when it said you had about five more minutes the Gods would disconnect you and you had to go back to the end of the line. Tonight was the last night of the head start and I was able to play for 15 minutes before the Gods disconnected me and I was never able to get back on.
I love the games potential, but I was only able to reach level 15 in four days, and I was questing hard trying to get through the large farm quest so I could hopefully find a place for it. But from what I read on the forums and saw in game, there wasn't any land available unless you ventured into the PVP areas or the level 50 areas.
I wish them the best, but I can't see tomorrow going good. My advice to all...give the game a chance, but wait a while, and don't spend any money until you actually see if there is any place for a house.
During the "Land rush" 40% of ALL housing locations were reserved (But I'm fairly sure this figure is a lot higher in safe zones); Stop whining and go plant your house outside the safezone, if you dare.
The issue of landrush isn''t because of development, but player interraction.
It's funny how you all still think its being DDoSed. That's a load of bullshit though. The servers were hammered yeah, by the players. And their infrastructure couldn't hold it. Given they knew the exact count of their founders, I think what happened on the headstart is pile of garbage.

Just do phase housing that way it's still in the open world and as many people as they want can build their houses even if the plot is already taken since you only see your version of the plot. Kind of like neighbourhood instances except not. But that's kind of a lame idea too it's just better than open world if you can't get the spot you want.
Does plot time run out if you don't pay taxes?
Going to wait til a month in before I even look at this game and see if it lives up to anything since the last MMORPG I played was Wildstar and that kind of died in the ass.

Yes if you dont pay your taxes your house is packed up and sent to your inventory along with everything you placed in it.
Phased housing would be a terrible idea in a game like this.
BTW I do believe that they have m ore lands planned in the future so housing wont always be an issue. It was the same in SWG, you couldn't hardly find a good plot of land that wasnt already claimed by a member of a large guild that had started a city, but, thats part of the game and you have to deal with it. Most guilds claimed large sections of land by reserving them and if you want a good spot all you have to do is join a guild that has reserved spots and they will find some room for you somewhere.
Originally posted by Mitara My group managed to get 22 lots and now we are making a lot of money on selling those. I like this game !
Blame greedy gits like this for the housing problem..
Although I was happy that they opened another server with more to come, so those people that couldnt get land will take their gold elsewhere and these land barons will be left paying a shit ton of tax for nothing..
