Ragers wanting to rage. Yes the new packs give more virtual stuff for the money But in the grand scheme having the option to pick and choose what you buy is much more valuable. Having 10K and going out and looking for a car on your own is better than having your parents uy you something 'worth' 15 that you wouldnt want to be seen in.
The credit value for all the good stuff is the same theyre basically giving you free garbage as an incentive. The ONLY questionable thing is the mount, it seems to be faster than the free one you get in game or can buy in the store. Its not available yet (but will be). If anything something like that should have been in the founders pack and not a pack sold after release. But as for most of the hate its misguided.
Originally posted by Superchieftian Anyone who thought this game was anything but a cash grab was kidding themselves. This was pretty obvious from the beginning and no one should be getting upset about it.
99.9% of F2P games are cash grabs by definition. They all front-load the spending requirements, because they know players will abandon the game much quicker if they're not "invested" (in all senses of the word).
Unless your F2P game is a MOBA or something like Angry Birds or Candy Crush Saga, chances are that you're counting players in multiples of 100K, not in multiples of 10M. Games that only have a few 100K players cannot survive if 5% of the population spend $5 a month. With 10M or 20M players, that 5% is more than enough.
99% of P2P games are cash grabs by definition. Actually, by definition, 99% of all games, no matter the pricing model are cash grabs. And the rest of your bullshit stats are just embarrassing. I mean, if you want to talk about front loading, then you need to consider $60 titles in general.
I don't think you actually brought any point to the table. Is ArcheAge a cash grab? Yeah, sure. But in the end you are fortunate enough to decide who grabs your cash for the type of entertainment you prefer. This bullshit about the game taking advantage of people because of their payment model is ridiculous.
I was pretty upset yesterday when I saw it, as the starter packs have much nicer stuff than was in the founder packs. But they are only for one character instead of your whole account, so that's a really expensive one shot wonder imo.
Anyone looking to throw some money at the game is better off buying credits and spending them rather than having Trion choose for you. Only with the Archeum pack are you getting any kind of a discount; with the other two you lose credit value.
- I play TSW, only spend around 30 and didnt pay a monthly fee. So the ppl who start on launch day that had to pay maybe 50 plus monthly fee should be refound for that?
- I start playing AION on launch day, spend 60 and pay a monthly fee during almost 1 year, now people can play for free, wheres my money?
- I pay 5 to play PoE beta and become free at launch.
The point is, with time most games become cheaper. Founders had the oportunity to play in Alpha and beta, its was part of the package. Now theres new packages for those who want to invest now.
I dont see the big deal. ArcheAge launch is facing REAL problems and this is not one of them.
But ofc, someone can allways peplie to me: "you are not a founder so your opinion dont count"
I had high hopes for this game bought the founders pack but during alpha and beta I just got bored with it. The whole trial system just doesn't fit and is totally out of place. I like to pvp you shouldn't go to jail in a sandbox people should hunt you down etc. It is going to end up a carebear game and not what I was looking for so im out 150 for the founders but to me it was worth being able to check the game out early and not waste my time on release. I did really like the class system being able to combine whatever you want. Back to old Shadowbane for my pvp fix. Is their a plan for an anything goes server ? Burn peoples farms pvp everywhere I would come back for something like that.

WHat do founders expect? The big fee was there because they knew people would pay it if it meant they could play. That's all it boiled down to. There was no other reason to pay for it.. I'd think everyone knew they'd offer this kind of thing at launch... Anyone who knew how F2P actually works anyway.
I wonder how long before we start to see health warnings on MMOs like we do on cigarettes.
"Warning, medical research has shown these kinds of games and their merchandising tactics to be dangerous to gullible morons. These games have been known to cause hysteria and financial insolvency in those with weak minds and impulse control issues."
Actually the warning would be more like, "Spending disposable entertainment income does not make you a special snowflake with entitlements. Please grow up."
Seriously, how would anyone not see this repackaging happening? Why would they even expect them not to? It's a game with a cash shop. They sell stuff in it. Not only that but it's good for the player because bundles cost less than buying the items separately. The complaints about this are ridiculous.
Since this game was announced back in the spring, it has come with an unprecedented triple dip business model.
1st, the ridiculously high early access with the possibility to get land before anyone else. Next Subscribers expected to have equal access to everything in the game. Then the Cash Shop that was supposed to be run like Rift's wasn't. In fact, that whole Cash Shop argument was the entire defense against this game degrading into P2W like it's Korean and Russian alternates.
One by one, revelations came. Things that should have made people stop and say "Hey, wait a minute Trion.....what is going on here?" Even though some did, one by one, they were excused and quite vehemently defended.
It's becoming increasingly more difficult to feel any sympathy for those who are crying "unfair" and "mislead"
How could anyone have not seen this coming?
Even now, there are those arguing that this game will even itself out in a few months........No, it won't, the Cash Shop will ensure that the "Haves" and the "Have nots" stay that way.

Got to credit you here. Geezer. You're predictions have proved pretty solid for this title so far.
"to me the starters packs are not what people should be complaining about- it's the lack or compensation for having half the head start nullified by infinite login problems. this is from someone who got the 50$ founders' pack."
I wish I had gotten half the head start. This is one of the worst launches of an MMO I have been involved in. Over 50 pages in the main post in Archeage's game forums about "Disconnected by the Gods" and not one useful solution yet (and far from the only thread about this issue). This is not the only issue - errors for no reason, disconnects while in game without reason. And the hackshield may be part of the problem, but I can attest that it has not stopped the botting for farming - you need only stand by the private farms to see this from several members of one of the bigger guilds in the game. Regardless, this should have been a good clean release since it has been on the market in other countries. I had expected this to be a decent release, like RIFT (which was pretty good by comparison). Seems like Trion dropped the ball on this one because they were so excited to get this game to market before the end of year releases by the bigger players in the market.

No one complains about paying for a game. It's perfectly fine to pay $15 a month for a game that is good.
The thing that people seem to complain about is the constant flip-flopping of Trion and the silly prices for worthless virtual exclusives and worthless virtual items.
----
Personally i think that both the old and new packs are hilarious in terms of value. There is no such thing as worth the money with virtual items. They only have value because Trion says so, people believe it and buy it.
Saying the packs are worth it because it would cost more to buy the stuff individually is like saying: "I saved $200" after you went on a shopping spree spending $3000. You did not save anything, you spent $3000 but at least you have some real products not just a few pixels.
----
Now, don't get me wrong. I am not saying people can't throw money at worthless virtual items, everyone is entitled to do whatever he wants to do with his slave wage.

And of course, by questioning the integrety of these companies, we are accused of wearing tinfoil hats. But I say, why do I need a hat when they made a $700 Billion T.A.R.P. ? Just the fact that they even made such a program and what it was actually used for is reason enough for any sane person to question anything said by any "suit"........EVER! No, the gaming industry isn't going to sink an economy.......outside their games anyway, but it just shows what business execs are truly capable of.
I can see how some people may feel like the new starter packs are better than Founders packs, but its really hard to say. Some of the things you got with the Founders cant have monetary or credit conversions applied to them, like Alpha access, head start, or even the founders title and cloaks.
Basically, everyone got what they paid for. I think my Founders pack was way better than the starter pack. In the Archeum Founders, you got all the things I mentioned earlier (Alpha/Beta, headstart, title and cloak), PLUS 11k+ credits. The new starter pack has none of those things, with only 1500 credits. The Founders, with headstart got prime land grab, and the stats on the title and cloak were great for getting an early lead in the game. All the stuff in the starter pack is just cash shop items. Most of which could be bought with the 11k credits founders got, or some very cheaply on the auction house. In the end, Founders Packs are worth way more than the new starter packs.
Seems people just like to complain for nothing. Almost like all those Founders forgot they got 11,000 credits to buy all those cash shop items with, and starter packs come with it, but next to no credits at 1500 only. Time for a reality check, and stop all the complaints and the "i want it now" attitudes.
Originally posted by observer Ouch. That's damaging to loyalty. I guess all those founders weren't loyal enough to Trion, even though they paid $149, on top of a subscription during beta, and even more for cash shop items.
If the starter packs will keep selling - it means that Trion/XL won't have to mess with the game to force existing players to spend more money in the cash shop.
Instead of starter packs, Trion could say "fuck you founders, we've already have your money" - and start selling 500$ swords in the cash shop.
the game is going the same way as korean and russian version
and more silly things that change the game to hello kitto and farmville or something familiar
i feel sorry for all the players playing it
Trion just gonna milk you all
lol. That is just awful, and immersion breaking. Asian MMOs always have these silly things though, such as Perfect World, Aion, and Tera, so i'm not surprised.

Perhaps folks better spend a little time at math ,if you total the amount of credit value for the different packages you will find the new starter packages are indeed 1250-1580 less in credit value than the founders packages and missed the 4 day head start . Only on these forums could some one try and turn around getting less for the same price as being a good thing .Shame on you OP for making a post like this without checking and facts. I'd like to play "Let's make a deal" against you
Originally posted by Kataline I am sad about this whole situation. I feel like I've been stabbed in the back. Why go to great lengths to get perks that cost a lot of money, just to find out that you actually could've gotten more items in the newer packs offered. I love the game, don't get me wrong, but I kinda feel betrayed that Trion went and did this. I didn't get to play much of the 4 day headstart due to queue times and login issues, so that was a waste of money. I am currently debating whether to try and get my money back, or just take the loss and try to enjoy the game the way it is. *hugs*
