Why is owning a house so important?

I haven't followed the game but I'm interested enough to ask.

So why is house ownership so important?

Since it is a level based game doesn't that make any houses not in a safe zone become a spot for lots of unchallenging pvp?

This I find confusing so that's why I'm asking about house ownership.

It's a form of horizontal progression, and it's cool to be able to tailor an area for your needs - e.g your own private target dummy etc.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

I can live without a house but i like to have a farm so im hable to produce sutff i need and even make some gold with the rest.

For those who want to be crafters a house is a must have, its where you place the "craft tables".

While a house is not as important as say a large farm, at higher levels of progression (mansion/guild castles) it will be nice to have crafting stations that are completely safe from PVP. Furthermore crafting proficiency can be boosted using craftable placeable items that can only be put in houses. Not to mention there is a small area around houses that can be used to plant hedgerows of trees/ other plants

Storage chests is one of the reasons (not a big deal to many) - you can place crafting station in your house if you are far away from crafting centers.

IMO value is the biggest reason why you want to own one - as you can make a nice profit.

But again the idea that each player should own a house is NOT how ArcheAge was designed on purpose.

They wanted to provide a few safe housing areas because the idea is to work together and PvP against others in contested areas.

Farms are whats important, theyre the best source of revenue in the game. Theyre important for growing and managing resources you need to craft, since crafting yields the best gear in the game. Those same resources are also important for pvp.

Sure you can go without a house, but youll be missing out on a core selling point of the game

P.S. Dont forget the bed that gives you 100 lp a day. which after a while adds up!

Well theres the added value of the extra farming space on the farmhouse version of a house. Plus every house has a tiny bit of extra farming area as well.

The reason you see people racing to place housing facades around the world is simply to reserve space for their eventual farm.  95% of those house will never actually be built.

Farms are massive resource generators.  You can farm pretty much anywhere, but only on your own farms are crops safe from predators.
